my component signatures I often see a combination of a straight line with a small loop or circle.does this mean that component may be defective? or maybe just too much voltage? is there any engineering papers on this component signature research? thanks John
Hi Chris, nice video. I build the tracer as described. But I have one question. The pictures of the different components (diodes, resistors, capacitors etc.) are upside down in comparison to a built in component tester of an Hameg oscilloscope. Can you tell me how I can modify your circuit diagram to get the more common results of the classic component testers. Thanks and kind regards Michael.
Hola es un gran circuito el cual pienso construir para así obtener mejores beneficios del Osciloscopio y probar diodos LED y poder ver sus posibles fugas muchas gracias saludos.
Hi, can i use IV curve tracer for testing components like resistors, capacitors, diode, transistors which are mounted on a board? I have many decap 0.1Uf connected between VCC(+5V) and ground placed at different device, can i identify which capacitor is faulty with this IV curve tracer?
...in order to get an accurate reading, it's almost ALWAYS necessary to isolate the rest of the circuit by disconnecting at least 1 lead of the component under test-(!)

Cool. I will stow this away in my memory. Never did curve tracing tests.
Thanks Chris.

CHRIS WORKBENCH, IV Curve tracers should have an additional DC bias voltage for transistors to get the correct IV curves signature?

...why use a variac instead of applying full line voltage?
how to do it with multi ranges (using transformer with 10, 15, 20, 60V outputs)?
...use a variac to control the AC voltage input to the tracer circuit...
