Cheap Monoblocks - Dayton Audio APA150 - 75W stereo/bridged 150W mono. They have 4.5 star user reviews, but I have not seen any reviewer feature them yet. $200.00 retail, on sale now at Parts express for $150.00.
Gearhead here... Dropped another $4,000+ this week... Cabasse is on sale at Upscale Audio... Murano bookshelf and their Abyss integrated amp/DSP unit coming... My Fyne F500SP's aren't even broke in yet. Yes, I have "issues".
Now that's a quick video. I still love the old ways when it comes to speakers and the Minimus 7s are a forever favourite of mine for exactly the reasons you posted plus a couple of sentimental ones. I have 2 sets of the 7s and a black vinyl single that has been used as a centre channel (you mentioned that too) for 25 years, off and on. I'm honestly considering a full 7,2 system using JUST small vintage speakers on a modern midline system just for gits and shiggles. I have a couple of smaller old Bose AM5 subs that I might even integrate with it. A serious Franken-Audio system but sometimes that sound can be amazing and it is almost Halloween. Always a great video, thanks Randy. Gearhead? Well, I think the name gives it away so let's say GearHedd. Ooo, I like that.
Another reason manufacturers go with external power supplies is, if the PS is internal, it'll require UL testing/listing before it can be sold in the US, increasing cost and time to market. An off-the-shelf PS already had that testing/listing done.
Cheap is a really personal thing lol! To me inexpensive is like 5000 for monoblocks as an example. Not because I make a ton of money, just because 5000 does not buy much of anything any longer.
How would you rate buying vintage gear to buying new? You can buy a nice Denon receiver (AVR-900 ~ 3000) for almost nothing on EBay? Or a vintage Denon DVD player (557) cheap (for playing CD-r with burned MP3s)?
Yeah, gearhead is a good term to explain a lot of us in the hobby. However, it's tempered by the fact that we like listening to music and just want the best for the money. Heck I use a fosi bl20a for bedroom duty and they make a pair of value village find Sony bookshelves (SS-MB150H) sound better than they have a right to. Amazing sound bar alternative
What is "good enough"? When you're engrossed in the music, undistracted by any "audiophile issues". It's about the *music*. If I'm grooving to my fave tunes with a $500 setup, I'm laughing at those who spent $10,000! Quietly of course, don't wish to offend anyone 😉
Luxman R115, Acoustic Research, Nakamishi from Japan and Vintage Wharfedale Linton 2's and Denton's for small rooms Sound Amazing as well as Bose 301, 602's with a Decent Receiver still

Speaking of gear and cameras. Your camera setup tracks focus amazingly.

It's not the camera. It's not the lighting. It's the beard.
It’s the coffee

Thanks Randy for the camera info! Have an awesome day!
You definitely got me. I‘m a gearhead in the disguise of an audiophile… 😂… that’s why I watch your videos!

Good stuff, Randy, thank you for the video!

Rather abrupt end to this video... Just about cut yourself off mid sentence. I had to check and make sure I wasn't having problems with TH-cam... 😂
