- The New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) under Ekonomi Madani is designed to make Malaysia a global leader in industrial development. It aims to achieve up to RM95 billion in total investments, adding 3.3 million job opportunities in Malaysia with a median salary of RM4510 a month, with a focus on 5 high-impact sectors: electrical and electronics (E&E), electric vehicles (EVs), pharmaceuticals, aerospace engineering, and advanced materials.
But are those targets sound? Is the allocation under #Belanjawan2024 enough to realise this?
We speak to Tengku Zafrul, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Malaysia and the ministry's former deputy minister Dr. Ong Kian Ming for more insights.

I think both Tengku Zafrul and OKM are brilliant best fit for the job, I wish both become Minister and Deputy Minister
Mr. Zafrul you should be the minister of Finance.
I believe BFM could've focused more on the economy and investments in this session, maybe queried more on EV policy, NIMP, economic development plan for east coast/east Msia, types of investments announced by PM from China, Abu Dhabi & other trade missions, etc and not on UMNO and politics. Would've been a great platform to discuss more on shifting supply chain, role of Msia in global supply chain, future of semi-conductor industry, next plan for financial markets/Bursa etc. Politics was unncessary.

One thing I don't understand : Target of NIMP is for Industry contribution to GDP to be 60% of GDP ( from current 25% ), But the Malaysia DGP is expected to growth at 4-5% a per year. This number seem contradiction to each other. Same thing happen to the target of Malaysia to be top 30 economy of the world, with the same population ( say at a growth rate of 3% ), the Malaysian median salary may be compatible to Singapore by then ( 2030 ). Is this realistic ? A lots of contribution in term of numbers. Are our menteri aware of this ?
When you say 60% of the GDP, it is not growth right but the ratio, it doesn't care how much the growth is, it just changes the focus of our GDP. services are at 58.6%, which means that they are aiming to shift the country's economy away from being reliant on services and towards manufacturing and other industrial activities. Not related to the growth and nothing contradicting there.

@@rained23JMTi to increase the ratio to 60% you can do 2 things (1) increase the growth ( 2) reduce the other.
No one will choose 2. So the only option is to growth year by year so that the ratio of manufacturing to hit 60% ( ratio ).
@@KLProperties when they say to increase to 60% means to reduce service understand ratio, if industry 60% the remaining is less than 40%. Got it ? It is a shift of focus. It means from gov perspective they have to reduce what they put in other sectors. You can't have 60% and 58.% same time, gov policy will shift to Industry more tax waiver etc2
@@rained23JMTi It will be easier to understand if you look at amount (Ringgit) of manufacturing contribution to the GDP. The aim of NIMP is to increase the % of contribution to the GDP with higher growth and overall number. Not reducing the amount of other sectors. With manufacturing sectors growth rapidly ( and its amount of contribution to GDP), the growth of other sectors will automatically reduce in ratio. This does ‘t mean other sectors need to be reduced in amount. This is the only way to growth GDP overall at this stage.
If NIMP is just a change of % contribution to GDP but no change in overall GDP number, that’s waste of time and effort.
We have plenty of educated and capable politicians in Malaysia, but unfortunately most do not have a strong enough moral compass.

Budgets are not about goodies, but a fiscal instrument to reset the economy.
M’sian economy has been in doldrums for decades and hence lagging behind her regional peers. Hence the overall budget policy is more important than individual components. Budgets start with the 5-year plan.
Fundamentally, budgets are not about Malays and non-Malays, but how to propel the overall economy in policy sphere. If the federal govt sets the policy right, budgets will fall into places.
Good economies are built on level-playing fields, not tilted. Economics are all about balancing, not tilted in one way or the other. .
I think TZ needs to takeover MOF. He seems more knowledgeable.
He is already the Minister of Trade and Industry. Big position.

I'm hoping the NIMP and budget will be materialised. They should have quarterly monitoring to ensure the plan accordingly. On UMNO I don't think they move on. The BOSSKU still their agenda and not for rakyat.

Well you can increase interest rate as much as the US then if you want our currency to strengthen
Our people are poor, our government is poor, and our local companies have low profit margins. Increasing our interest rates would result in many loans becoming unpayable. Once a domino effect starts, it could lead to a financial system collapse, resulting in even greater losses. Allowing our currency to depreciate is currently the only path available to us. Until our economic strength and national output can improve, we have no room for maneuver and must sacrifice the value of our currency.

USD has strengthened not just against MYR but other regional currencies as well.
With the conflict in the Middle East and the hike in 10 year US rates to 5pct, our MYR and other currencies, long term, are good.
Hiking our rates will affect the people further but we will see further tightening of rates in next quarter by BNM.
