Chrissie Amphlett is the best. An amazing performer, always skirting on the dark side of lyricism. Sadly she died young of breast cancer. She was a force to be reckoned with.
I saw her perform at the Palais in St Kilda. Because of her illnesses she was sitting on a stool and walked with a stick. But none of this detracted from her performance. As sick as she was, she gave as much energy as she had in this film clip.
Was lucky enough to see these guys play many times, worked in clubs for years Chrissy could be dirty sexy wild but was always amazing. The band often closed with the song "Siren" fcuking great way to end the night . RIP The one and only Chrissy Amphlett
Chrissy Amphlett embodied women owning their own sexuality. Long before the soulless factories turned out todays icons we had women like Chrissy who crafted the whole package. Chrissy Amphlett is a great Australian. She will live on though her music forever.
Saw the Divinyls live in 80's and they have remained one of my very favourite bands ever since ..they were absolute dynamite ,Chrissy Amphlett's was just phenomenal
Had the pleasure of meeting Chrissie Amphlett before she sadly passed from the terrible C! Chrissy was an absolute sweetheart! Unfortunately due to multiple sclerosis, she was unable to fight the cancer with traditional methods. One of the greatest rock chicks and front women ever! RIP Chrissy. 🤟
R.I.P Chrissy Amphlett, another great Aussie singer like most Australian artists from the 70’s/80’s were before their time. I don’t think the rest of the world truly knows how amazing our music industry was/is.
@briangill4000 I was there in Perth watching my now Hubby ride motocross as an expedition. I can't really remember all the details. It was on the Perth foreshore from about 1989 to very early 90s. They played afterwards. It sure was a win win.
I like the look on your faces when she sings some of these lyrics! Lol. Growing up in Australia in 1985 we were more direct with our language shall we say. Lol.
She says "Please ask me how I've been getting on..." In other words, Don't ask me how I've been feeling. How've you been gettin' on? is a common expression in Australia.
Official Lyrics are that she sings "Please don't ask me, How I've been getting off" Which fits in with the rest of the song "Lover, lover, why do you push? Why do you push? Why do you push? Baby baby, did you forget about me? I've been standing in the back of your life Back-row centre, just above the ice Please don't ask me How I've been getting off..."
She won a Tony award for playing Judy Garland on Broadway and then tragically died. The story goes that there's a line in Money for Nothing that relates to her.
She was one of a kind. Has worn teasing school uniforms and peed on stage in full view of the audience. She was trying to compete in a male dominated rock music scene and didn't give a stuff if she stood on toes. She was right. She had every right to be up there singing her heart out.
RIP Chrissie, a great Aussie rock singer. She also played the part of Judy Garland in the stage musical The Boy From Oz, the life story of Peter Allan.
This one was always quite a dark Masochistic song. Still well loved and sung by such a brilliant singer in Chrissy Amphlet. Died far too young from Breast Cancer. Her other song I Touch Myself is now a regular anthem to women to check themselves for such female cancers, telling them to not be affraid or prudish. To always be aware and get themselves checked regularly for cancer before the symptoms ever start and it is too late.
Written by the late Chrissy Amphlett and Mark McEntee. They were the continuous members of The Divinyls. Produced by Mike Chapman. This fellow Australian 🇦🇺 also produced and/or wrote with/for Pat Benatar, Huey Lewis, the late Tina Turner, the late Olivia Newton John, others.
@@girlsblouse7866 Don't know about Blondie. Chrissie said she was mostly inspired after a Pretenders tour interview. Frank Infante did have a brief live stint with Divinyls.
@@WarrenBridges-um5cg I'm referring to Mike Chapman who produced Parallel Lines and a heap of ''other'' Blondie albums in regards to the subject of who wrote P& P. However, Chrissy and Debbie both frequented the same ''clothes shop'' on occasion.
@@girlsblouse7866 Sorry. I wasn't sure what you meant when you said "copied Blondie". I don't have any Blondie albums. I didn't know he wrote for them until you mentioned it. I knew he did some writing for Pat Benatar. What a coincidence. Was the clothes shop in America? Chrissy lived there after she married Charley.
Thank you for this reaction video! 😆 Divinyls have such a good catalog of great songs. Like most others who had their teenage years through the 80s in Australia, their songs formed the background music of our lives. And although there were the well-known "spicey" lyrics in a lot of their work, some of their songs really hit home on other subjects that affected us everyday as we were growing up. Would love to see you guys do a reaction to "Good die Young", a hit from 1983 that is full of hard-hitting lyrics.
The song is about domestic violence and coercive control within relationships, when you're on the receiving end of a lover's violence, and you want to forgive but live in fear of the next time.
Geez we miss you, Chrissy. I remember her in a late-night radio interview talking about her first stage acting experience where she had to walk out on stage naked, except for having hair rollers pinned in her pubic hair. I can only imagine. One of the most genuinely sweetest people in Australian music, gone way, way too soon.
@@WarrenBridges-um5cg OMG, thank you for that. I didn't remember the name of the performance because I was sleeping with the radio on and seemingly just woke up for her sharing that golden nugget. Chrissy was one in a million. In my mind, Chrissy is to this day, the best rock/punk female performance artist Australia has ever produced. I know I am going to get a lot of hate from the Amyl and the Sniffers fans, and as much as I love Amy Taylor, she's strong on angst and attitude, but she can't carry a melody anywhere close to Chrissy. I don't mean any disrespect to Amy in any way.
@@lencooke944 I've got Chrissy's book "Pleasure and Pain". I've forgotten a few things from the book, but I remember that part. Patricia Amphlett, Chrissy's mother and uncle Joe were at the performance. I did see excerpts from the interview somewhere on TH-cam. Haven't listened to Amyl and the Sniffers.
@@WarrenBridges-um5cg Amyl and the Sniffers are kind of aggressive post-punk. Amy is very much an in-your-face kind of frontwoman. they played the house down at Coachella
Chrissy Amphlett was bold, the songs were risque, but she is a much loved Aussie rock chick whom we dearly miss, she was taken much too early by a cruel disease (Breast Cancer) R.I.P. Chrissy.......
Chrissy invented this gritty, hardcore stage persona and tweaked it for each video, but make absolutely no mistake she was all class. She was a lady who told it how it is, and today's record industry is poorer for her loss. RIP
Your metaphor of spice hit the nail on the head...its regards to a relationship with s&m overtones. As Chrissie once said: "It can be so good and it can be so bad at the same time.
