    Just realized something subtle the writers did with Johnny 50. Watching Season 5, Episode 4, when Scott Templeton goes under the bridge to interview the homeless. One of the first guys he runs into is Johnny 50, now homeless with just his dog. Three seasons later, and they still find a way to slip it in the effect that the port job layoffs had. Frank was right about what would happen if no one saved their port.

      The port dying was a Baltimore problem. They couldn't figure out how to transition the loss of that economy. They arent the only city to go through that. They just failed to adapt in this series.

    I love this scene. I always wondered what it would have been like if the actor who played Franked chose to do this scene small. Still, not a lot of actors who can pull off screaming like this.

    • @CurlingClips
      @CurlingClips 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Frank didn't start screaming until Beadie said something. Frank was calm before, laying out the vile accusation in the open and attributing it to "the detective", but then he got more personal when he turned his attention to his pal Beadie, who verbally challenged him. That's when he exploded.
      This is similar to a domestic violence situation. A husband can have a tense conversation with cops, but if the wife starts interjecting, that's when buttons can get pushed and violence can suddenly erupt.
      Domestics are some of the most dangerous calls for the police. I love that Bunk stepped forward once Frank got triggered by Beadie. I see it both as a way to defend Beadie and to deescalate Frank. A quick cut shows that Beadie was shook when Frank looked in her direction as he punched his own hand. Bunk stayed calm and made a pouty face, and Frank was able to calm down.
      This scene is amazing.

      They were working class who grew up to be middle class in revenue thanks to great unionism.
      Frank couldn't win because he wasn't fighting one or two sleazy politicians; he was fighting a system designed to take down the working class, in order to maximize profits for shareholders and big entrepreneurs.
      I've seen people blame Frank for trying to play the game and losing; what they fail to see is that if he had not played the game, his port workers would still have gotten the proverbial shaft and those condos would definitely still have been built.
      I disagree with his strategy - as I believe in other forms of unionism - but at least, Frank was a working class man through and through. He helped put bread and butter on the table of many families there. What the show does not explore is the aftermath; we see this "workers will get shafted" movement unfold with a sense of fatalism but there is no reason to believe that just because the working class has been getting fucked over for forty years, we will forever stay down. Radicalization, in the face of such alienation, is coming and will benefit all workers.

      @@moriellymoproblems7842 nah...Bunk definitely got more than he bargained for, and that was the point. The union boys have been through politics and courts before. They are just as much a gang as the cops and the barksdale or marlo crew. Different uniform, different currency but still a gang.

    Anyone who says they don't like Season 2 or tells you it's weakest of the four, doesn't deserve to watch the show.
    THIS is the season that showed that the drug problem in this country is multi-layered. It isn't just a inner-city problem. It brings to light that the entire scope of major drug trafficking, which correlates to the dynamics on a street level in seasons three & four of the show. Just brilliant writing overall and Frank was a unforgettable character.

    Frank was classic Wire character. Complex and flawed, where you wrestled whether to like him or not. But (spoiler alert..) when the Greeks got to him, it was sad and you wish he could survived through it. He was similar to Bodie, where he wasn't really that likeable initially, but you could see, though he was severely flawed, he actually cared about his son and had deep loyalty to his men at the union.

    The actor playing Frank Sobotka (played by Chris Bauer I think?) was one of the best actors on the show along with Chris, Snoop, Slim, Omar, Lester, and Mcnulty... I honestly can't believe I haven't really seen him in anything since The Wire. I could be wrong or have missed his films and shows, but I can't fathom why an actor as talented as Chris isn't starring in movies/television shows constantly! I mean, if I ever got lucky enough to make a television series/movie, Chris would be on the TOP of my list for actors to cast. I feel like that actor is capable of amazing performances in any genre, he just hasn't really been given a mainstream media chance. I mean hell, if Bryan Cranston for some reason turned down the role of Walter White for Breaking Bad, I could almost see this actor doing a decent job! And I know all the BB fans are going to go fucking crazy on me for saying that but Bryan was obviously the best actor the show could have ever had, I'm just saying that if he didn't take the role, I could imagine Chris doing a decent job if you had no knowledge of how good Cranston's performance was! Sorry for the long and somewhat nonsensical rant... I've had a few drinks and I always end up ranting and raving over movies while drunk!

The fifth commandment in Catholic theology is "thou shalt not murder" so in a way, he's actually talking about the girls when trying to deny that he's talking about the girls. Another small detail that the writers threw in there.
