    So, is it also possible to get a "Celebi" with this method when you own the right Missingno. ?

      sadly no based off this

      reason is there isnt a glitch poke in gen 1 that is equivalent to celebi

      That and also the subject of Egg, ????? (00), ????? (FE) and ????? (FF) was originally a mystery as well because No. 251+ and 000 don't have entries on the table, and you can't trade any Pokémon from Generation I to Generation II and have it end up as Celebi.
      However you can find the answer regarding what happens to Celebi when traded to Generation I in the article as well (glitchcity.info/wiki/Time_Capsule_exploit#From_Generation_II_to_Generation_I) thanks to this guy's research (forums.glitchcity.info/index.php?topic=6985.0), though I feel the wiki article isn't clear at parts (sorry about that). Transferring Celebi from Generation II to Generation I will cause the game to search beyond the conversion table until it finds the byte corresponding with Celebi. In Crystal a Celebi will always be converted into Omastar when traded to Generation I because the byte is at a certain position in the ROM. In Gold/Silver the search goes beyond the ROM (into RAM, which is writable by events that happen inside the game, unlike ROM) so can be hard to predict, but often is another Generation I Pokémon.

    • @Indigofrost
      @Indigofrost 7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      which means theoretically we could reverse the process be setting up our ram in gen 1 and trading it? of course it would be really hard to set up and do all of it in the first place lol.
      so short answer no celebi
      long answer yes, but very complicated.

    • @pacomatic9833
      @pacomatic9833 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Actually, here is my explanation.
      But it's very simplified.
      (Note: I think the link cables are not compatible witt each other)
      Everything has to do with compatibility.
      When trading between Gen 1 and 2, you are trading between Gameboy and Gameboy Color.
      This seems wrong, but here's the thing - the Gameboy Color has full support with normal Gameboy games. Because of this, the link cables are also made in such a specific method in that it has that same backwards compatibility.
      Something that is worth noting is that both consoles use an *8-bit architecture*.
      Now when you are going to Gen 3, the Gameboy Advance, the architecture is much more different, being a *32-bit console*.
      Plus, the Gameboy Advance is way more powerful, and so while it can still play Gameboy and Gameboy Color Games, trying to get that compatibility is much harder on the GBA, as more power means that using the same old link cable would be pretty painful to make, and possibly would even waste a lot of potential, so they didn't do it.
      It was just not possible.
      The Gameboy Advance transmits *32-bit* signals through the link cable, but the Gameboy and Gameboy Color both transmit *8-bit* signals.
      Trying to force it to mix them together would probably cause *mayhem*, and maybe even crash and corrupt memory as the Gameboy or Gameboy Color wouldn't be able to handle those signals, so it'll be overwhelmed and possibly die. At the same time, the Gameboy Advance will be confused as to why it isn't 32-bit, possibly causing a huge underflow. Keep in mind that it's figuring it out what happened while at the same time the Gameboy is crashing and overflowing, causing there to be a bunch of corrupted data in the memory cable, and if the Game is taking up enpugh memory, even straight up crashing. Now when the corrupted memory gets sent to the GBA, it woukdn't really know what's going on. This may cause some arbitrary code exectution, if it somehow does that. The Gameboy Advance will recieve those instructions and try and exectute them as if they are 32-bit. It'll soon be sending some corrupted data to the Gameboy, making it have to do even more stuff while the whole overflow is happening, and will interpret it as extra overflow, as well as trying to execute all that code too.
      A bunch of stuff will happen until the game crashes.
      Also, Nintendo wanted the Gameboy Color to just be a tiny improvement to the Gameboy, while the Gameboy Adance was meant to be a complete overhaul.

    Chickasauras, you do so much with breaking Pokemon games and discovering new quirks about them, yet you don't get much recognition. I love your work and I hope you gain a lot of recognition for your discoveries!
    Also how hard is it to discover new glitches and even set them up? I've always wondered because the hardest glitch I've been able to successfully pull off on a real Pokemon Game is the "Hatch Any Pokemon" glitch from Pokemon Emerald.

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  7 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      Thank you very much DimensionShifter! :)
      Usually what I do is read up on existing glitches if something is unfamiliar first, then try it out or do different things with it. A lot of what I record is from something that is already documented (such as on the Glitch City forums) but is obscure or is a previously unknown extension to it (like a glitch from a Japanese website th-cam.com/video/d4jBckP_mag/w-d-xo.html, or extension: a previously undocumented/obscure doll glitch menu list th-cam.com/video/qvoMpTlfPnU/w-d-xo.html). There may also be glitches that are poorly understood and I may try to deconstruct them and analyze how they work (like badge man glitch th-cam.com/video/H5BbZwt0pPA/w-d-xo.html).
      I feel as for discovering new glitches it can depend on how much is already known. If there is an existing glitch you may be able to put together new uses of it (e.g. new uses for arbitrary code execution), otherwise (a lot less often) at times I may find a completely new glitch (like this th-cam.com/video/-bigbgsbNiA/w-d-xo.html). This could happen by chance when playing the game.

      This happened because MissingNo. and Ho-Oh/Lugia were part of a different experience group, so the game tried to the level to what it should be even though it was below the current level (if it is below the current level it may go past level 100 through the maximum value 255 to become 0 again). I'm not sure exactly why one of them skipped to the right level though.

      The Lugia Missingno. wasn't, so it had to grow -5 levels. For those who don't know, the -5 signed integer in 8-bit arithmetic is the same as the unsigned integer 251, which means that to drop 5 levels, it had to grow 251 instead.

    Actually 39 Pokemon were meant for generation 1 but were cut and introduced in generation 2. Also Pokemon like Togepi, Ho-Oh, Marill, Snubble, Donphan appeared in Gen 1 anime and the breeding mechanic is mentioned in Gen 1 such as Butterfrees having babies and the Togepi Egg

    • @dundee6402
      @dundee6402 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From the leaks, we know that none of the gen 1 cut Pokemon made it into gen 2. Remember that Pokemon like Togepi and Marill debuted in the anime in 1998, only 1 year before Gold and Silver released in Japan. Gen 2 was in development since at least around mid-1996.

    It would be really interesting to see how much data is actually transferred between games when the transfer animations happen. I assume the game already knows what is the outcome, so it already "completes" the transfer before the animations actually finish. Or does the animation actually match the data transmission speed? Would be something worth looking into, but I assume you'd need some sort of ROM hack (ASM?) to have "Tx" and "Rx" indicators so you can tell when the game is reading and writing data over the link - Tx being Transmit and Rx being Receive respectively.

    • @fieratheproud
      @fieratheproud 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Coburn
      I remember reading from somewhere that the trade animations reflect the actual trade. Well, more accurately, it said that data can only travel one way at a time trough the Link Cable. As such, let's say I'm trading a Raticate for a Pidgeotto. In gens 1, 2 and I believe 3, one would go first and then the other. Gen 4 and onwards, however, the consoles can send and receive data at the same time, which means the Raticate and Pidgeotto will essentially pass each other - like in the trade animations from DP onward.
      I unfortunately don't remember the source, and for all I know if could have been made up. But it all makes sense to me.

      Trimint Pikachu Not in Gen 2. Gen 2 had a "time capsule" feature that allowed you to send Pokemon to Gen 1 games. This is why there is a "Johto Guard Glitch" that allows you to send Gen 2 Pokemon to Gen 1 for interesting results.

    Theory
    Missingno is Lugia but they tried to remove and missingno was the result.

    MissingNo. just means Missing Number (of pokemon) meaning like you get the No. 201 pokemon on the pokedex, but there are only 200 available No. of pokemons in the pokedex. So this can be done with every generation probably by trading a pokemon that doesn't exist in the precedent generation

      @ferdinandroig3460 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ǝbop uʍop ǝpısdn hexadecimal numbers are numbers where relative numbers are base 16 instead of being base 10 (meaning there's 16 units to every "ten"). Memory allocation indexes in many forms of software is stored in hexes because the count from 00 to FF (the last six units to a "ten" are represented by letters from A-F so as to not have to invent new numbers) is exactly 256 units, a power of two, is easily translateable to binary by a machine.

      More accurately they don't have the same hex ID but I chose these Generation I MissingNo. IDs (34 and B8) specifically because they transform into Ho-Oh (FA) and Lugia (F9). There are 39 different MissingNo. IDs; which are like entries in a list glitchcity.info/wiki/The_Big_HEX_List . There are 190 Pokémon IDs including 39 MissingNo. These aren't all possible Pokémon though. As a byte has 8 bits it supports 2^8 or 256 entries, and Pokémon beyond 190 are non-MissingNo. glitch Pokémon.

    • @want-diversecontent3887

    The reason that aaqrrz missingnos are actual gen 2 Pokémon on golds screen is because missing no is a unused Pokémon turned to a glitchy mess because they were unfinished and were reused in gen 2 so the missingno transforms to RIGHT Pokémon before arriving to golds game boy.

    So in Gen 2, Pokemon can't down-level? In Gen 1, a Yellow Missingo could downlevel to level 1 and it would end up with 65,535 HP. So apparently in Gen 2 if a Pokemon's base stats don't fit its level, it just levels up until it overflows and then reaches the proper level? That's so odd.

      Theoretically you could run the Time Capsule script without having the game check your party, yes.
      You can also use it to put a ????? (FF) at the top of the party (or do the same with another glitch that allows you to get ????? (FF) like bad clone glitch, international trade or Bug-Catching Contest glitch in the Japanese versions) which will make the game ignore all Generation II Pokémon below it, however moves are still blocked. This is called the Time Capsule exploit.
