The thing is, he's going off the end of last season. He doesn't expect Mercedes to step up enough. I do kinda agree tbh.
I expect it will be Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston for the top 5 in that order at the start, I expect Torro Rosso to be up there also but I don't think that will be sustained.

Most improved - Logan Sergeant
I don't think he'll get a seat for 2025, but I think he's the only driver who is really capable of significant improvement. He's underperforming, young and still fairly new to F1. Everyone else is already performing well, or is too experienced for a considerable jump in performance.
Closest teammates - Charles and Carlos
I think Carlos is going to give 2024 everything he's got. His last year with Ferrari, I think he might want to prove himself.
Furthest teammates - Fernando and Lance
I don't think this one needs explaining. I don't have much confidence in Lance, while I have full confidence in Fernando.
Driver of the year - Max
No significant regulation changes, and Newey's team has clearly been on some psychedelics. I think Max will run away with it again. A nearly flawless season from Max in nearly flawless car. Maybe not as 2023, but still dominant.
Yea on Carlos he has to put himself in the shop window. Apart from Logan Sargent and Checo he's probably the 1 driver tht can't afford to have a bad season. I don't think he will 😁
I think Sargent will get the boot maybe even before the summer break!

Zhou in his two years has rarely shown that he has got the speed. I wouldn’t even call him a rough diamond.
Whereas, Tsunoda showed flashes of really strong pace in his second season, beating Gasly on multiple occasions.

Us Ferrari fans can only dream, but seen as apparently Ferrari gained 8 tenths in the winter it may not be to off (considering it's like 4 tenths more than they promised)

People are a bit unfair to James Key. They don't know if those Working McLaren Upgrades came from him or not. I think they did come from him considering it takes months to develop them.
Maybe, but it's also my understanding that Zak had already started moving things around quite significantly prior to Key's departure. Hard to know for sure where his work ended, and the new regimes started.
It’s Peter Prodomou that was responsible for McLaren’s up turn. They have the second best Aero arguably it’s just the mechanical grip and tyre degradation.
Pete prod has been there for 10 years now 😂 I don’t think he can take the credit. What happened to McLaren in 2018 with the same engine as the RB but coming last? What was he doing then?
Leclerc with multiple wins, Piastri p4, Hulkenberg p19, Mercedes that far down, Lewis below Russel, Perez p6, tsunoda under Riccardo and ocon p15 are craaazzyyyyy

P7 and p8 is criminal people are really forgetting that James Allison never built a bad merc car ( joined in 2017 backed down at end of 2021, got back to his role at around April/may of 2023 so he didn’t have much to work with
But still managed to get them a p2
Allison in 2017…that was the dominant hybrid engine, not the design of the car
@@Redlingstein Tell that to Williams. Everybody likes to claim that it was all due to the engine, without recognizing that Merc was the thought leader for tons of aero innovations during the period, with nearly all other teams copying them over the course of the regulations.
@@Redlingsteinyou do realize multiple teams used that Mercedes engine and only Mercedes won right? So that means they designed great aero and suspension.
Would love to see Charles win 5-6 races and really take it to Max, but Albon taking his Williams consistently in the top10, ideally some top6 finishes and winning driver of the year

closest teammates could also be alpine, we've seen them in 2023 in both qualifying and race they were close many times. btw I agree 100% with the grid predictions, maybe Oscar and Lando are too high while mercedes are too low but it will depend a lot on the car
Gasly is a lot better than Ocon. The only way I see this happening is if Alpine is horrendous and Ocon can get his one good race of the year and score decent points, but Gasly will just outperform him throughout entire year as he did last year

They are still around the same good F1 drivers. Both got one race victory in their career, but maybe Gasly is by small inch better, than Ocon is.

Closest teammates : Charles and carlos ( yes i belive in carlos to not give a F*ck and drive like a maniac. )
Furthest teammates : Alonso and stroll ( easy )
Driver of the year : Yuki Tsunoda ( he will get either the RB seat or Aston seat. Yes I am Delusional.)
Agree except furthest teammates. Max and Checo would still be the obvious choice.
Carlos can give as least a fuck as he wants but he'll not get upgrades at some point

I still don’t understand the level of mental gymnastics it takes to see a team like Mercedes, who with all their woes and errors got P2 in the championship, and be this blind to how good of a team that is. Its the same team that won 8 constructs in a row, the same team who started with the W13 and ended the season with a win, they’re not just capable, they’re usually the safe bet to be competitive. Look at their performances and the gaps, they’re consistent and forward moving. Even with fundamentally wrong concepts.
And it’s also funny how, in contrast to this, Ferrari are hyped up every season and always fall below expectations. Saying this is a Ferrari fan myself, fully aware they always disappoint, and yet I still agree with Tommo’s predictions. No idea why.
Nobody's saying they aren't good, just that teams around them got better. McLaren started last year with arguably the worst car on the grid and a rookie, and it would be surprising if they didn't at least match Mercedes. Not to mention that Ferrari was ahead of Merc going into Abu Dhabi last year and the combination of a Russell podium and Sainz retirement jumped Merc over Ferrari. They'll do no worse than 4th in the constructors', but P2-P4 is probably going to come down to luck.
@@gene7887 McLaren had to sacrifice almost half the season so they can bring a fast car. You don’t win championships that way. And we’ve seen Ferrari do this every year. Not saying they will be the best, nobody knows that except the teams themselves, but this narrative is ignorant to the kind of team Mercedes is.
4th in the constructors is a pretty reasonable prediction for Mercedes this season. Myself i putted them 5th because i just think that Hamilton isn't leaving Mercedes just because he wants to drive for Ferrari. There must be more and i think that Hamilton lost his confidence with the team. So in that case, the car can't be good right? And i think that the competition is having a better momentum. Look at McLaren's and Ferrari's second half of the season. Mercedes had the fourth car at that time. I just don't see it this season and the car doesn't really look fast to me.
@@bigmini2870 But McLaren sacrificed half a season because they already knew that what they had on their hands wasn't good enough, and already started work on the replacement in the off-season. Ferrari and McLaren will be starting this year with a well-understood platform, and will develop from there. Mercedes, due to the switch in concepts, will be a bit of an unknown. I believe they'll start further back, but with good development throughout the season. Either way, it'll be close between those teams.

Driver of the year, I will go bold: Carlos Sainz, I hope he will prove Ferrari how wrong they were about him, outscoring Leclerc just like he did in their first year together, with more consistent results
I'd say it depends carlos feels like the most consistant driver but charles has the highest ceiling IMO so if ferrari challenge rb charles is 1st ferrari driver if ferrari fumbles it's carlos
I really hope McLaren and Ferrari can compete and win a few races. I’m in agreement that Mercedes may not be that team this year as well. Good predictions tho imo. Wonder if anything will change in just a few days here haha

I do feel Logan will improve quite a bit this year. A lot of people forget he wasn't even an academy driver for any teams until the year he jumped into f2 where he joined the Williams academy. Meaning he really only had a year and a couple practice sessions to really get integrated with the car and team.
Watching Logan, he is a driver who is at his best when he is confident in the car he is driving and himself. Last year with all the accidents he had and rookie mistakes showed he was not confident in the both the car and was overdriving his own ability. I think that will be different this year.
It really doesn't matter. Matt Gallagher has already unbreakably cursed McLaren and Lando specifically

Most improved: Yuki Tsunoda {i feel like vcarb might have a cccar that's within the front pack if the rumors of them using major parts from rb19 are true and this might be the year for Yuki to prove that his ascend and improvement in that team is real. He'll also get his first podiums in f1 imo}
Closest teammates: Charles and Carlos {Carlos and Charles have each got too much too prove this year, Carlos has gotta establish himself as a top team driver now properly meanwhile Charles has gotta show that he is no slouch and can match up and beat max when given the chace. Similar to Max in 2020, this year will show that given setup and package, he can matchup and beat the best i.e max. Plus i still think he is the next best driver outside Max to win a championship.}

@@moimon4074 my point is that his season was as bad as these hysteric people are reporting they like sheep. It was the first 1-2 Redbull season victory and he obtained his second position by a sizeable margin (two race wins worth of points).
The top three of Max, Lando & Charles will give us a brilliant season. I just feel it. It's the beginning of their era in F1.

12:00 Lance will def improve this season cuz I really don't see him not improving. Now that might be the Canadian bias in me, but I really think he will have his confidence back that he lost in that Mugello 2020 crash. But I really don't see AMR improving as much as I want them too
Agree with some predictions, disagree with others but interesting to watch. With you on Alpine, they just seem directionless while several teams around them have real forward momentum.

As much as i like seeing a team performing at the optimal level, a non redbull podium would be insane, maybe some monza madness

I'm honestlye excited for this season. Teams like Ferrari and McLaren have fixed certain issues and understood these regs better.
The mid table also upped their game and Redbukl is going for a radical change that might or might not work.
It has potential to be a good season and I feel like Ferrari night actually be onto something good this time.

Most improved: Logan, for the same reasons
Closest teammates: Lewis and George: Perhaps working on racepace and being established as the future leader of Merc might give George that extra oumph we find with Max, Lando and Charles
Furthest teammates: Alonso and Stroll, this one really doesn't need any explaining imo.
Driver of the year: Lando: You already know the stats from Austria and onwards. Momentum seems to be on his side, the team is seemingly taking a step forward (we'll see) and Lando has always taken a massive step up every year in some regard, he has always been exceptionally rapid in quali- and he's said he's been working on ironing out those quali mistakes. Backing him to be Max's closest rival this year- but I don't think we're getting anywhere close to a title fight for the next 2 years.

Alpine reliability will be a big issue.
Yuki will push too hard and crash frequently.
Sergio will push hard and crash frequently(will win no more than two races)
The top five will all get at least one race win.
Max and Charles will be within 75 points of each other, and from Oscar Piastri to George Russell they will all be within 50 points of each other. Lando will have a pretty safe buffer above and below him regarding points.
Australia will have two red flags.
Lando will win his first race at Silverstone.

The Ricciardo Prediction aged poorly
Most improved: Zhou. Only because I thought Piastri's rookie year was so great that there isn't a ton of room for 'improvement'. I think Zhou showed a lot of potential as a rookie against Bottas, and last year was a big step back. If he isn't improved this will probably be his last season in F1.
Closest teammates: Leclerc-Sainz; I think the Carlos-to-Sauber story because of the Audi links is a bit overplayed. He's been in Red Bull, Renault, Mclaren, Ferrari and showed he's a capable driver in anything. If I'm Red Bull and Ricciardo doesn't do the job in the VCARB, it's time to hire a Spanish driver. If I'm Mercedes, I hire the other one. Also I am not as bullish on Charles; until he shows development in how he manages his races he still reminds me of a younger Max. Fast as hell over one lap, but a bit reckless at times and victim to dodgy strategies cooked up by the Legendary Ferrari Strategeries Department or by himself when he loses faith in them. Other potential close teammates are the McLaren duo or Gasly-Ocon.
Furthest teammates: Stroll-Alonso. Kind of like Zhou I think this is Stroll's last year in F1 unless he impresses, unlike Zhou I'm not as optimistic. Stroll's been in F1 for 8 seasons now - I know he's still relatively young, but aside from a brief moment in 2020 with the pink Mercedes he really hasn't taken that next step. WEC is calling...
Driver of the year: lol Verstappen of course. Guy's going to run the damn table. 24/24. Going to plant his flag as the greatest ever to do it (I know, it's always going to be a debate, but what else can he do to kick down the door and forever claim his place in the conversation)
DotY, Non-Max division: Alonso. He's a freak. If he had the same cars as Lewis I think both of them have like 4-5 WDCs. I'm not joking when I think he could be racing at 50.
ETA: go ahead and run to your local betting parlor and put the mortgage on the opposite of my picks - last year I thought de Vries was going to be outstanding so I know nothing 😅
Not too far off what I think, I little more Williams faith and a little less Alpine expectation, and a bit closer McLaren/Merc/Ferrari. But not wildly different. Lets just hope we get good racing, that is the main thing.

I didnt change it since then to keep my "original thoughts" ;)

It looks very similiar to yours.
But I predict RB2 and McL a lot better. "Just" 1 place in the standings, but I think RB2 will be close to the Top-Teams with a big gap to the lower midfield and McL will have a comfortable gap to P3 and will even challenge RB for the title.
I cant wait to get this season started :)

Lecrec finished 6 points ahead of Carlos with one less win. Also seemed to bin his car every couple races.
I don’t think magnussen is that much worse than hulk, he had more points finishes than him and arguably got the better of the haas in the races. Hulk was fortunate in Australia with that big crash, and had a great strategy in the Austria sprint with the rain. Hulk does for sure do better in quali on average but they both absolutely have their moments

I think the season overall will be closer. We tend to get 1 team that runs away with new regs, which was RB this year. But every year after that we tend to get a closer and closer championship. I dont fully trust the RB this year for some reason lol. I think Mercedes will surprise us, I think itll still probably be RB and Max for both championships, but I think Ferrari, Mercedes and maybe McLaren fighting a really close fight for 2nd. I think the Drivers and Constructors championships will be decided by less than 100 points. Ultimately I think itll be

@@Bobby09LFC I just think the McLaren isnt gonig to be as good as people think it might be. They had a really strong start, but they poured a lot of time and money into last years car. I think itll start off good, but they might slow down as others are bringing more researched upgrades. I also noted that Zak was talking about managing expectations to start the year. Might be an indication of the opposite of what I just said, and more similar to last year where they come in not as good as everyone else but ramp it up towards the end. I could see it going either way. But mostly because I think the bigger teams like Mercedes and Ferrari are going to make some bigger leaps this year and the competition will be tougher for 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the constructors.
Reasonable predictions. I’m not sure Albon will be in the top 10. I think Williams will make a step up, but I think Racing Bulls will make a bigger step forward in terms of car performance. I’m not saying it’s impossible for Albon to too be in the top 10, but I think it’s unlikely.

Driver of the year: Piastri for me. I know he got close to the 100 point mark last year, but I'm going to predict he'll finish on possibly double the amount of points he had in 2023. Don't see him finishing above Lando though.

I agree leclerc is a good driver but i dont understand such blind faith on him. Every year people predict him to be 2nd/3rd and way ahead of sainz but it is mostly not the case
One prediction i feel could really happen.
First driver to get dropped mid season (not considering injury substitutes) - i think Zhou will get dropped for Pourchaire. I have a feeling Zhou was only kept on for the Chinese GP n i truly believe he would have been dropped already if the GP happened last year. This year though, i expect this change sometime around the summer break.
I don't look at Alpine that pessimistically to be honest, Haas could also be a slight surprise with the windtunnel time, I think the quote from Komatsu is taking a bit out of context and also I reckon contains an element kf sandbagging (what he was saying was, they probably will struggle at the start but plan on focussing on development during the season)

Ocon doesn’t seem to understand it’s sometimes better to finish than to crash while going for the pass. He’s too aggressive for his own good. Smacking his head on the wall. I don’t think he will be there much longer if he doesn’t chill. And he’s not enough of a team player to go to a Williams or haas. Hopefully that’s not the case, for his sake

A lot of people really underrated yuki like they did with the devries situation. And they are gonna keep underrating him when he faces off against Lawson once he retires Danny.
I think Checo will be out of RB early in the season. I don't think RB can hold onto the constructor's with him in the seat. Maclaren & Ferrari are going to be scoring with both drivers.

I think everyone underestimates the alpine car and ik this video was filmed before testing but p5 from an alpine (gasly) and just from testing is impressive and may be a top 5 car this szn
I did my predictions a few days ago and mine were the exact same as yours Tommo!!!
optimistic: similar to Tommo: execept Merc will be much closer and the top 2 to 5 in the constructors will change every race, checo will start the year pretty good and then fall off a cliff with danny ric being confirmed in silly season, sauber will bring an insane update that will enable bottas a P4 finish in (insert here a race he is good at) which funnily enough sainz move to sauber will be confirmed the monday after, as alonso moving to mercedes a bit earlier, stroll annoucing his move to WEC plan, and the AM lineup will be perez and drugovich, lol
pessimistic: max will be EVEN MORE AHEAD and checo will secure p2 easily cuz RBR will be 1s clear of the rest

I like your overall picks but dont agree with the Perez one, last year you said Checo would finish 4th he finished 2nd, now you predict a 6th place, i dont think so, i know you want those more popular drivers to be ahead because they are hyped and bring hope of a more competitive season, but hes still in a very dominant red bull, more likely a 3rd or 2nd by the end
Most improved: the Honey Badger, Daniel Ricciardo. I may be cheating a bit here as he only got a few races last year, but I believe in the man, the myth, the legend, Danny Ric!
Closest teammates: I could cheese it here and go for the Haas boys as they both won't score many points (if any at all), but instead I'll make it interesting and go with Russell and Hamilton. Normally, one would expect Lewis to wipe the floor with George. However, as Lewis has announced his move to Ferrari, I think Mercedes will prioritise George to the point where I think the two will be quite close in points at the end of the season.
Furthest teammates: Alonso and Stroll. One is an absolute legend of F1, as well as motorsport in general, and the other is only still there because he's the team owner's son.
Driver of the Year: I can't find it in me to bet against the man of the hour, Max Verstappen.

I like that you went a bit risky with your predictions. I hope it is as close as you say would be fantastic to watch.
Realistically I feel you have severally underrated Merc I think over a season they are going to beat at least one of Mclaren or Ferrari. If you would pin me on it I would even say they are going to be P2 in the WCC and Lewis P2 in the WDC. I think he wants to go out on a high and their car looks very interesting imo.
