For that back when it's all kind of messy like that what I like to do is throw some dunnage over it and a 2-in strap to hold it all down so it doesn't flap and tear it.
You need pieces of carpet or rubber over the sharp edges of metal or steel in order to save your tarps!, there too dam expensive. As far as keeping clean; get a five gallon bucket, have spare water on board, wash cloths and towels,you can keep clean.
You need heavy duty thick blankets under your tarps to prevent ripping those brand new thin lightweight tarps, lots of different material you can use for tarp protection
