Nice job. I would have definitely used the new elbow but I know they’re not too cheap. If anyone gets into a jam with a gate valve where the water will not turn on you can remove the top bonnet nut with two pipe wrenches and manually remove the gate. Then put it all back together without the gate and you’ll have water until you can replace the valve.
Mostly because of the existing one was fine and they aren’t cheap. But also because there was a living creature on it and I didn’t want to disturb it. My daughter tells me it was a monarch butterfly chrysalis.
sharkbites can be reused. thats one of the benefits of using them. love em. i had some old piping in my bathroom that was replaced in 2007 with pvc after i came home to my whole house flooded. the pvc joints were starting to leak but the sharkbite ones were great, so i replaced everything again, this time myself. i reused all the old sharkbite elbows and got some of the T sharkbites to use instead of the pvc ones. its been 3 years since i replaced the old pipes and pvc joints and theyre still golden even with reusing the old sharkbites. i also have plumber friends who swear by sharkbites, so theres that aswell
Great job saving the chrysalis :) it definitely is a monarch.
Woah 👏👏 also super nice too the bug. The hussle but well done 👍
Thanks
Damn!!!! You’re awesome, I’m having the same issue, you gave really great idea of how to solve it. Thank you.
Glad I could help!

Same exact problem , but in apt. building half way inside wall . How old will u say that knob type is? And is it a 3/4's sharkbite?
I assume the knob is from when the house was built in 2013. Yes it was a 3/4 sharkbite.
Why did not use the new elbow?

I wish I could do this with ours, I got like 3 pipes together outside and the middle one is leaking.
You probably can do it, sometimes it takes a few attempts to get something that works but you can do it!
