Glad you found it useful! We were there in the second week of December. It’s the best time to go, but apparently we were very lucky, as the normal climate of this area is cloudy! I (Alba) went again with my mom in January and it was raining the whole time 😅
Cruising overnight is my choice. Full board and drinks for US$150 or so for 2 nights is still extremely reasonable. It's a must experience. You pay the same for just a dinner cruise in Europe. Always ask the locals, hotel receptionist and owner. They have good connections with the local businesses.

You're welcome! We stayed there 2 nights (but if we knew how beautiful it is, we would've stayed longer). And yes, we went back with the same company, they were super friendly and reliable
It was included in the $35 price which is crazy!! It was really good and varied, we really enjoyed it. The only thing that is not included is if you want to buy any drinks during the day (apart from water).
Thank you for your valuable information! I think there is another (cheap) way to go to Cat Ba Island: It's going by ferry from Cat Hai district (of Hai Phong city). The ferry's name is Dong Bai, it operates everyday from 05h30 to 18h30 and it takes 25 - 30 mins to go to Cat Ba Island. The ferry's ticket price is VND 12000 ( USD 0.5) for one person without motorcycle and VND 45000 (USD 1.8) for one person with motorcycle.
Halong is a waste of time. Cat Ba is much better. Do the same tour like in the video and go to the Nationalpark. You will have a great view when you go all up 😉

You still spent quite a bit for the hotel (Cat Ba Paradise Hotel is ~£100 per night) so for a solo traveller hotel + tour vs the full cruise is pretty much the same price. But it is good to know there are different options!
Glad the video was helpful! Actually the hotel was $100 for two nights (so $50 per night). I think particularly for solo travellers this option is much more economical as in a cruise you’d need to be paying for the entire room anyway which is much more expensive. We stay at this hotel: Hoang Phuc Cat Ba - Hotel Elite. But closer to the coast are a bit more expensive with an ocean view. We bought the boat tour here at the hotel, at the reception.

We were there in December and we were super lucky with the weather, it was sunny and beautiful. Then I visited again in January just a month later and we got some rain!
How did you return to Hanoi? It looks like the cruise ends at 5pm and the Cat Ba Express bus leaves at 5pm. Is there a way to coordinate with them and make sure they don't leave without you?
We stayed that night in Cat Ba but I remember there were some people in the cruise that were leaving for Hanoi after the tour and they helped them coordinate it 😊 When you book it, you can talk to them over WhatsApp and they’ll be able to help you out.

If that USD400/2 people, or USD350 on special, goes to different islands & caves, it is worth to try both because Michelin meals cost a lot, so as the globally expensive lobsters.

$35 was just for the day cruise (per person). We spent the night in Cat Ba Island, but there are also options that include the transfer to and from Hanoi and some start at $50 if I’m not mistaken.

We went to the Cat Ba Express offices in the Old Quarter of Hanoi (although you can just book online). They took us from Hanoi to Cat Ba, and on the bus they showed us the Tours available, and we just booked it with them right there :)
I watched your boat trip the $35 one, but I also was hearing the sound of the boat engine all the way along your trip. Was that really the sound of the boat engine ? if the answer is yes, then it is annoying and you feel uncomfortable taking into consideration the quietude of sailing while observing the scenery around. please answer my question as I am planning to go to Vietnam. The transfer we took included the speed boat, so when we got there, our guide just got called someone and it arrived. So I would recommend having it planned like that as well :)
Paradise Hotel Cat Ba Island charges AUD130-300/night for double room. So when compared to USD400/2 people overnight Cruise with Michelin lunch, lobster buffet dinner, breakfast, lots of activities plus Hanoi Pick-up & return, all in one package sounds cheaper though the route are definitely different.
@@NALBATRAVELS In Vietnam, I always spent no more than AUD10 per person per night when I had family members & friends to share but still not the lowest. 2023Feb, triple room at Plam Beach Hotel Nha Trang was AUD16.5/night, many similar deals in Cat Ba.
Cat Ba Archipelago, Lan Ha Bay & Bai Tu Long Bay are also included in Ha Long Bay World Heritage Area so doing either one or all are still considered as Ha Long Bay.

I am sure some cruises are 1 afternoon 1 night plus 1 morning so the customers from last night can exit before new customers in the afternoon.
In 2019, the overnight Sleeper Coach (with toilet) between Hanoi & Phong Nha was USD11, around 8 hours.

I think that Cable Car does NOT travel to Cat Ba Island. It is the link between 2 sides of Sun World Ha Long Complex.
No we were nowhere near Ha Long here. This is a fairly new cable car that crosses to Cat Ba in the summer 😊

so how does one oganise this trip from Hanoi ??
We went to the Cat Ba Express offices in the Old Quarter of Hanoi (although you can just book online). They took us from Hanoi to Cat Ba, and on the bus they showed us the Tours available, and we just booked it with them right there :)
I watched your boat trip the $35 one, but I also was hearing the sound of the boat engine all the way along your trip. Was that really the sound of the boat engine ? if the answer is yes, then it is annoying and you feel uncomfortable taking into consideration the quietude of sailing while observing the scenery around. please answer my question as I am planning to go to Vietnam.

how did you find the speed boat to get to Ca Ba island?
The transfer we took included the speed boat, so when we got there, our guide just got called someone and it arrived. So I would recommend having it planned like that as well :)

Paradise Hotel Cat Ba Island charges AUD130-300/night for double room. So when compared to USD400/2 people overnight Cruise with Michelin lunch, lobster buffet dinner, breakfast, lots of activities plus Hanoi Pick-up & return, all in one package sounds cheaper though the route are definitely different.
We paid $50 USD per night for a double room. Maybe it depends on the time of the year, but when we visited it definitely saved us a lot of $$$

In Vietnam, I always spent no more than AUD10 per person per night when I had family members & friends to share but still not the lowest. 2023Feb, triple room at Plam Beach Hotel Nha Trang was AUD16.5/night, many similar deals in Cat Ba.
