I do too. I can't count the times I've been outside by a pool and had a bee or a fly in my drink.

Hello first and foremost your enthusiasm and appreciation for beer steins is very apparent and admirable. However I invite you to do some more research on your steins. And to spread information accordingly.....None of these are any older the 1890 and none of these are “commissioned” they are all production steins From various factories. Your “monk” stein has a thumbliift featuring the Munich Frauenkirche and a transfer print under glaze scene of the Munich child and was also sold as a tourist item in Munich. The stein to it’s right is a tin glaze earthenware stein that was most likely made in Austria it is an ode to earlier faience steins and was made circa 1900..this origin story of steins and the plague is constantly perpetuated and has been proven false by many historians and academics...(also flies don’t carry the plague fleas do)..steins have lids for the same reason your Starbucks coffe has a lid today...so it doesn’t spill easy when walking around....I have been an avid collector and member of Stein collectors International for several years and a collector of 18th century and earlier stoneware for 10 years. I currently have 200+ steins in my collection. If you are in Instagram you can view my collection @beersteincollector. Have a great day.

Happens a lot when a collection is handed down and people don't do research for them selves. But she is learning and anyone interested in our hobby is a plus, thanks Brian good information.
