To think, you had the disadvantage of:
(1) Starting late
(2) Manually closing outer door
(3) Selecting floor, wait for gate close
...and you WON!
that was a fun race. 500m should be the 10th floor in regular numbering. 100 = 1st floor, 100m = 2nd floor, ... . riding the old elevator would be funner.

Old elevators are pretty fast. New elevators needs a lot of time with Running, leveling, doors open etc.

i rode a 60 year old elevator in my school and i felt it being SO much faster then the modern ones. i still like modern ones but the old ones i like a little more :)
Congrats on the race. I think the best thing here is that sometime older is better, especially with the fact that most was manual on your end, and yet you made it there first,. That is a great examplel of an old elevator there.

@JoeA320Pilot if the guy likes elevators why are u upset...different ppl with different interests...its what makes life interesting..oh..and they arent trucks..the are small diesel train engines used as switchers in train yards and industry parks...Maybe u would have known that if u had a open mind...

Me and some my friends did this at the Peabody Little Rock. I won because the elevator he was on stopped at the ballroom level. We was racing to the 17th floor.
Dieselducy, you know why the older elevator one? Because older elevators (paticularly otis's) are faster. I don't know why but that was the chosen speed.

Nice elevator race! Do you think that you won becuase he didn't open the door fast enough or because that elevator was jsut slower?
It was possibly the same speed but the problem is that the other elevator had automatic door that is slow, no door close while in this one, the gate closes when the button is pressed and ITS FAST
