*Nicola Antonio Giacinto Porpora* (Naples, August 17, 1686 - Naples, March 3, 1768) was an Italian composer of Baroque operas and a singing teacher, with Farinelli and Haydn as the most famous students.

First, this absolutely world-class, superb violin playing. I've been following violinists live and on recordings intensely for well over 60 years, and I'm stunned that I had never run across Giovanni Guglielmo ever. He's up there with the greatest.
Secondly, this recording is a gem!
Thank you so much for sharing this, messer citrazzo. I'm in your debt.

Harpsichord is continuo... that’s the correct balance... also the strings need to be louder because their intonation will be more accurate than the harpsichord whatever the temperament it’s tuned to (probably ET anyway here, so even more important it remains quieter)...

What can we say? Save- “its you” Messer Citraz in your customarily splendour, such imposing grandeur fit for our Queen’s diamond jubilee. If only her majesty knew of your talents, she may confer the title of “Prince regent of melodies” upon you, so great is the sounds that so beguiles the times, and even for that we give you thanks

You enlightened me. Till now I was thinking that it was not proper for one to use esquire himself and that someone has to use the expression for others! Now I can use K. Jaya Kumar Esquire. No I will not as I even spent one year for doctoral research after my post graduation. Incidentally, I heard that the title Sir is given away by the Queen for that person's meritorious service. Anyway you must be grateful that Her Majesty the Queen won't sue you!

This is such exquisite late Baroque music from a composer I previously only knew as Haydn't teacher. And even though the Classicism of the student is very different from the master, the melodiousness is the same. What a shame that Porpora died in financial straits much like Mozart: if only there had been GoFundMe, Inc. back in the 18th century because these great composers were more deserving of financial support than some of the characters getting such help now, including corrupt lawyers and FBI agents. I certainly would have contributed a ducat, louis d'or, or farthing or two were I able to.

Nicola (Antonio) PORPORA 1686 - 1768 composer and teacher of singing , whose most famous singing student was the castrato Farinelli. Other students included composers Matteo Capranica and Joseph Haydn. … From Dresden he went to Vienna, where among other pupils he trained the young Marianne von Martinez, a future composer. As his accompanist and valet he hired the youthful Joseph Haydn, who was making his way in Vienna as a struggling freelancer.
Haydn later remembered Porpora thus: "There was no lack of Asino, Coglione, Birbante [ass, cullion, rascal], and pokes in the ribs, but I put up with it all, for I profited greatly from Porpora in singing, in composition, and in the Italian language. He also said that he had learned from the maestro "the true fundamentals of composition".
In 1753 Porpora spent three summer months, with Haydn in tow, at the spa town Mannersdorf am Leithagebirge. His function there was to continue the singing lessons of the mistress of the ambassador of Venice to the Austrian Empire, Pietro Correr. … WIKI
