- I went on a tour of a Bitcoin Farm running ASIC miners, a container farm using excess natural gas, or Flare Gas, out in West Texas, with fellow youtuber @YourFriendAndy
These guys are powering 300 S19 Pros and S19J Pros with green energy. Some of the oddest green energy Ive hearf of, since its literally gas. But this flair gas was on its way to the atmosphere no matter what - you cant stop it, but you CAN give it one extra thing to do on its way out.

During the production process and piping of oil, natural gas is formed and needs to be syphoned off to prevent catastrophe. Normally, the oil man simply sets it on fire and lets it burn, for real. Bitcoin Miners are now able to harness that wasted gas, burn it more cleanly, and give it utility before its let go.

It sounds like that article you quoted was actually saying that 70% of bitcoin mining has "any" renewable sources of energy in their grid at all (which is like saying 70% of iphone chargers use renewable energy). If you're a utility or have solar panels on your roof and sell excess energy, you basically just add it to the overall grid and gets spread out or used by your neighbor randomly, so it's not really an easy stat to calculate. Seems like the other 30% in the article "not using renewables" is basically operations like this one you highlighted which use solely non-renewable sources, however I may be wrong.

Nick, I was a bit late watching this video, but really loved the idea of hosting my own S19j Pro 104Th at MuskMiners' flare facility. So I have been talking to them about prices and rewards - which they are happy to provide. When I work through the math of purchasing the machine, paying the hosting fees, and earning the expected BTC, it looks like a 104Th machine will reach break-even in about 3 years. That is approx a 31% return each year. Really awesome! After year 3, you have paid for the machine and you earn more BTC than the fees, so it is all profit going forward. But this leads to two questions: (1) How many years will a 104Th machine remain competitive in winning the mining computation competition? Hopefully more than 3 so I can reach profitability, and (2) Why buy a miner instead of just putting the purchase amount ($4,984), plus the monthly fees ($187/month) directly into BTC and reaping the appreciation over those same years? I suspect that you have worked through these same questions already. What are your thoughts?
What’s in it for the hosts? Surely they have to make a profit on hosting otherwise why not just add more miners themselves? I don’t think breaking even in 3 years seems like a strong investment. A lot of unknowns at play along with risk of having inadequate or redundant hardware in a few years time. Unless you run an operation like these guys do (at scale) I think the risks are too high. I’d be interested to know the numbers they gave you.
At this point the S19 XP is 5nm, and the only upgrade left is to 3nm, so I would assume that even 7nm chips will be fast enough to keep up with a pool for the forseeable future, even if a 3nm miner comes out. It's just an incremental upgrade, because there isn't much room for improvement at this point.
Great job on the video! Cool operation they have going on. I'd be curious what their profit is compared to someone mining when all is said and done. No idea if ASIC mining equipment has any uses after increasing difficulty makes them obsolete.
Well it takes a pretty long time to go obsolete if youve got cheap power like these guys do. S9s are still making money for them and those came out 5 years ago..
I am unfortunately not privy to their monthly profits, but I would guess theyre going to be adding their own machines in there along side the hosted ones, who wouldnt!?

I kept one s19j pro back at home for experiments like that. Currently it’s not heating the pool, but next week it’ll make an appearance when I attempt a two phase cooling loop rather than directly cooling the fluid
How big of an investment did it take to build that mine?
I didnt build it, I simply visited it and contributed.. But I think the whole project was like $200k with zero miners in it

I think Utopia ecosystem is ideal for mining now. No extra costs, stable income that doesn't drop, and no need to buy extra equipment.

At 8.5 cents per kilowatt hour, each machine will cost ABOUT 180 bucks a month.
How much do you pay for them to host your miners?
You pay $0.085 per kilowatt hour and nothing else

You are not wrong. They require you to purchase machines through them. If you have existing machines and purchase more through them, I would be willing to bet they would host both.
Amazing project! What is the minimum investment and what is my return?
They want you to purchase a minimum of green ASICS through them, and each one will produce about .000458 BTC per day no matter what the price of Bitcoin is.

Unfortunately, no… Musk Miners requires you to buy a minimum of three machines through them to remote host there.
