When you mentioned not getting credit on the record, that hit home for me. I coproduced and arranged a record that made Billboard Top 40 back in the early ‘90’s and when I saw I had no credit the response was “I didn’t think you wanted credit”. Now, at 72 years old, I’m getting a Rupert Neve Designs 5088 ( 48 input ) fully loaded penthouse with 56 moving faders arriving this August and doing only my songs and no one else is allowed in. Thanks for your honest video.

Brooo. So cool. Al the right tools, gear, etc.. Neat to watch the old videos too where you're traveling to different studios to work and such in the Camry! Haha. Happy for you man! I want to get there too.

This is rad. Lots of awesome info as always. I love that you made it a priority to have family time. I love that music is your passion but you’re not a slave to the craft.

This was one of the best Q&As. So down to earth and real. I watch all your videos and am one of those that while I have a decent home studio, I find myself living vicariously through your work. Never miss an episode. I’m at a strange point in my life where in teens through early 20s worked as a regional touring musician and also did my fair share of live and “make shift”studio engineering (mind you this was late 80s early 90s and all analog). Being a recording/mixing engineer was my dream. Well life happened and I went the tech career for the next 30yrs…but built up a decent mix/master hybrid studio in my house. The odd thing is that I really would like to make content for TH-cam. Confidence in doing so at 50yrs old is waning though. Is there a market? Would I appear as an old fool? Etc etc.
These types of videos sure help and i just wanted to let you know that you’re more inspiring than you may even believe. Even to us nervous older guys.
    Take care Andrew!

Hi Andrew! First of all, love your content, you're killing it!
Second... Your story at the end about working with people/music you don't particularly love working with to pay the bills, especially after having a CV as long as your arm with top artists... Really resonates with me, man.
I'm very similar in that I worked as an engineer at one of the big studios here, with so many big artists/bands... and exactly the same position as you, no credits. It's such a tough thing to go through, especially when you leave for pastures new, go freelance and you need to try to sell yourself working on these records, where your name never appears. It always made me feel like a fraud even though I knew I wasn't! It absolutely kills self-confidence too...
I make it a point now that for all music I work on, everyone gets a credit. It's what gets us all more work, why would there be people that don't want that to happen!? Crazy to me.
I'm currently going through what you described, working jobs that I don't absolutely adore, to pay the bills. Which, if not careful, will really quickly flip into studio burnout with all the extra editing to fix performances, mix revisions, etc... I've had my fair share of moments.
Mentally it's a tough place to be, especially knowing what you did previously was so successful, but we have to keep going, keep hustling... doing what we need to do to survive. I've almost walked away on so many occasions, but I'm in so deep... I just couldn't do anything else!
Maybe I'll give this TH-cam thing a try one day!
From one guy with a young family to another... Really needed this video today, dude. Thank you so much! 🙏

Andrew if you are gonna do merch, do it yourself or have maybe a couple of people help you. Mainly, get the printing stuff and learn how to do it. You can buy Really cool flatbed printers, not cheap to begin with but return the investment easy! And with a flatbed printer you can print on anything just about. I used to do printing...printed all sorts...Canvas prints, magnets, postcards, posters, t-shirts the lot, and guess what. I spent 1 month learning how to print...had no idea what I was doing to running an entire business lol. And its fun...Ozman (if you know his channel...just general fun videos) he has millions of subscribers and he did exactly what I said, just bought himself a flatbed printer and off he went. I think Epson does the cheapest effective t-shirt flatbed printer...and hat makers and mug makers are realtively inexpensive...couple of hundred bucks...which you will make back so easy. So consider doing it yourself (or have a small team of two or three people around you). If you get creative you will sell ALOT of merch and it will be worth having a very small homegrown team to run it for you. Good luck in your ventures.

Andrew can you do a console vs series. A good one is your Tirdent 64 VS Behringer Wing Console. Sweetwater will hire one to you.
