One of my most cherished memories and experiences as a guitarist was sitting third row at this concert. What made the concert even more special was I arrived at GSI early and I was able to play that 2007 Manuel Reyes. I had no idea that Antonio would actually play it for the entire concert. Ultimately Antonio traded his 1998 Reyes for that 2007 Reyes. Not only did it make the concert really special for me because I played the guitar shortly before the concert started, but I'm pretty sure that I was the last person to play it before he acquired it..
Lo tiene todo!!!! Imposible no emocionarse! De la calma a la euforia en un segundo. Control de las emociones en su máxima expresión. Gracias Antonio Rey por existir.

This is shear poetry straight from the heart plus an outstanding guitar that is indeed crying. He is juggling with these flamenco tricks as if they weighted nothin or close to nothing, must be doing it all his life...

@Neuromance27 Certainly for originality and that Pacoesque amazing sound of originality, Maya is superb. Agreed Vicente Amigo is slouch! But I do appreciate Sabicas ...maybe because i am now 72 and remember how wonderful Sabicas melodies were:)
Y Paco, bueno, no hace falta decir nada

The man is over the top, fantastic brilliant sound. It would be a task to find better. His style is superb and outstanding. I found what I would consider the best of the best.
If you are doing comparisons then categorise first. Composition, technique and performance. This then signifies the complete rounded musician. On technique, every flamenco guitarist has a weakness. Antonio is near perfect technically although I'm not fan of way he generally plays rasgueo. He is impeccable performer but not massively enamoured with his compositions. Much of it seems to be showcase for technique. For me, Vicente is a great composer and performer and technically he is also almost there. He would admit himself that picado is not perfect. He has a unique feel and identity like no other. I recall seeing him in concert Cordoba years ago as he was coming on to scene and much of audience were professional guitarists and they couldn't understand how the sounds were created. They were mesmerised. Jeronimo is first and foremost about the performance and his personality is infectious. He has power in technique but not all elements are there and I don't think he has developed as a composer. Like many gitanos he excels at chico style with Bulerias etc. Jondo composition is lacking. Diego Del M is very interesting composer and brilliant performer especially as accompanist. Again, as a gitano he excels with rhythm and his compas is unbelievable. Yet, his harmonies are richer and more musical than Jeronimo. Gerardo Nunez is technically formidable, interesting composer and great performer but he hasn't produced enough material nor given as many concerts to fully demonstrate his prowess. The only guitarist I've known to be brilliant and original composer, impeccable performer and near perfect technique (he would admit his tremolo isn't finest) is the one and only Paco de Lucia. In his prime he was untouchable.
I've read through the whole thing, and I gotta say, pretty fascinating and precise critique, with such detailed comments we get to learn from others, thank you.
so pdls tremolo wasn't up to par, Vicente's picado is lacking, Gerardo Nunez isn't well established, and what's wrong with Antonio Rey's rasgueados again? I couldn't disagree any more strongly re: Antonio's songwriting. maybe the picado scale running isn't particularly musical, but that's like ten seconds out of any given song
I think the picados fit the music when placed correctly, and for me Antonio nails the placement. And his rasgueos are insane; his abanico is the rawest thing I've heard in a while, great power.
What's interesting is that each one of these 3 pieces are dedicated to a certain flamenco maestro. Respectively: Paco de Lucia, Vicente Amigo and Moraito Chico
He is a master.
How nice it would be if you included his works in your repertoire maestro, you are a great guitarist. God bless you.
I see the masters in him ... Paco , Vicente, Manolo .. his playing gives me hope that Flamenco will never die ..Ole Antonio

To be expected, it's called muscle-memory....
@@metrallofpv1722can you do it ?I hate when people don’t appreciate. We all know it’s muscle memory that’s not the point .
That's because flamenco guitarists practice at least 4,5 hours more per day
