    My fire starter tip and I am only passing it forward, as it was taught to me, is to cut up heavy-duty cardboard rolls, or packaging edging, and soak them in Citronella Tiki Torch fuel. An added benefit is that you can distribute lit ones around campfires as a mosquito repellant.

    For the dryer lint you really want cotton lint. Lint from polyester or nylon doesn’t burn it just melts and it gives off toxic smoke. Get the lint after doing a load of towels, that will serve you well.

    No dryer lint it may have cancer causing material in it that you shouldn’t burn you don’t want to breathe it in. I use wood chips and wax in old cardboard egg cartons.

    My eco-friendly tip about using lint to start fires: use cotton lint. Polyesters and nylons will burn, but not ideal for the environment. So any time you dry a load of fluffy cotton towels or cotton shirts, grab THAT lint.

    Fire starter; save burned candles that usually get thrown away, melt them and pour the wax into egg cartons that you’ve put sawdust in. After the wax cools break apart the sections to use in the campfire. Easy to light, burns a long time.

    Paper egg carton, dryer lint, and old candle wax. Melt the wax while still in its glass container over hot water. Drizzle over dryer lint placed inside each of the egg carton cups. Cut the cups into singles. Whenever needed, light the paper egg carton cup edge. As it burns, the lint and wax will catch fire long enough to ignite wood.

    Different subject but a topic suggestion. What is the best way to lock stuff up? From expensive coolers to 5th wheel Pin locks trailer ball locks chains something for generators gas cans etc. A $20.00 bolt cutter will cut most anti-theft devices. I haven't had anything stolen yet in a campsite but just preparing.

    For fire starting I use a small battery powered fan. So one you have a bit of kindling lit you can blast it with a fan and it really helps that small flame take off.

    If you mix the dryer lint with vasoline it will burn a lot longer. Back in the film camera days, I carried film canisters filled with lint and vasoline to start fires. burns long enough to start even damp wood.

    I use an accessory propane hose as well for my outside bbq. Just be sure not to “double “ regulate. Meaning the propane at the accessory propane outlet on the rv has gone thru the regulator and then the appliance your connecting it to also has a regulator. Most do, so place a “y” at the tank prior to the regulator or remove the regulator at the appliance.

    We like to burn candles that are in jars (or any wax) when the wick burns down and you can't really burn the candle anymore, we take cotton balls and drip the melted wax on them. Let them dry and store them in ziplock bags for fire starters. You can do the sane with broken crayons, too. Melt them down and dip cotton balls in the melted wax. 😊

    I have a 2006 f450. I'm ashamed to say after 9 years in my lance camper (it drops down over my truck bumper) I didn't know how lower the spare tire. I bought tires, had them installed and have brought them back to the dealer for rotations and if I picked up a screw or a nail, they pulled it. Just recently I had a tire go flat. Tow truck driver also didn't know how to lower it and came to find out, neither did the tire place that services my truck. When they rotated my tires they didn't use the brand new spare and instead wrote "save' on it as if they put it back up. They said they'd take care of it. They lied. So now I know there's a hole in my back bumper next to the license plate bracket that an extension reaches in through there to the spare winch and cranks the tire up and down. But you have to jack the camper up onto the jacksabove the bumper to access that winch hole. Some of them need a a security socket to do it. Find out now if yours needs one. Mine doesn't need one.

      I have NOT had any luck running my propane generator off the quick disconnect on the RV.
      I compared the male ends of the Blackstone grill adapter (which runs just fine) to the male end on the hose (with a built in regulator) that came with my Champion 4500 Dual Fuel generator. The tip of that hose is slightly longer.
      I thought I could just swap out the female connector on the generator so it would work with the same hose I use for the grill, but a propane appliance place said that wouldn’t work. They said that although the RV regulator adjusts to the correct pressure, it does NOT provide enough volume of gas for the generator to run.
      I can’t believe there is no way to run the generator off the quick disconnect line on the RV, and that I MUST haul around an additional dedicated propane bottle just for my generator, but I haven’t found anyone who can tell me how to do it.
      Please break the code on this one!

      I'm also interested. But didn't think that would work as the RV propane already has a regulator on it. I use propane with my Champion 2500 all the time in the winter. Let me know if you get it somehow hooked up.

    Could you please fully describe how you utilize the RV propane port? I find that the RV propane port is downstream of the RV pressure regulator, and all the propane devices I want to plug in already have regulators built-in, such as my stove, BBQ, and fire pit so the RV propane port becomes useless to me unless I purchase all new specialized and costly propane appliances.

    • @stevenedington8882
      @stevenedington8882 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You need to disconnect the appliance regulator and use an inline connector to run your appliances. The RV regulator handles the low pressure required for the RV and all your appliances.

    How to clean or flush your gray tank?

    • @AllAboutRVs
      @AllAboutRVs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m doing a video on it later this year but the short answer for a simple clean and flush is to use the tank treatment like I would for the black tank but put in a double portion of to the grey tank. Fill the tank up and let it sit over night for at least 12 hours and let the treatment do the work.

    My wife has been making fire starters by melting the wax remnants from household candles and combining that with dryer lint and sawdust into used egg cartons. The individual sections can be torn away and used to easily start fires. I’ll use a few of them when burning pellets in the Solo Stove or lighting a fire in our fireplace.

    Thanks for this weeks hacks! I’ve always enjoyed your tips and hacks over the years.
    Here are 2 tips for hooking up the propane generator to the RV quick disconnect. 1). Remove the pressure regulator from the Champion propane adapter and replace it with the male half of a quick disconnect. The RV quick disconnect is already low pressure. 2). I use a 20’ propane hose for my generator and it was taking a looooong time to get propane from the RV to the generator with the pull start cord. I now use a “primer squeeze bulb” to get the propane to the generator. I attach (simply press fit) the "suck" end of the bulb to the Champion male end with a short piece of clear vinyl tubing and squeeze until I smell propane. Then insert the Champion male end into the generator. Now it only takes 2-3 pulls on the starter cord to get it started.
