    Loving this.. hell.. I'm simply loving everything about Bluecoats over the last several years. Don't really know what changed with this corps but I love it.

    He's not overhyping, he's just hype enough. He commits to every note and everyone else is doing their absolute best to keep up. Plus, unlike Nick Cannon, he can actually drum, so you can just move right along..go watch a stock drum corps while these badasses are busy changing the game. Don't knock someone for giving it 100% when you can't hold a flame to anything he can do. #nani

      Adam Heavens though you're making some definite good points, I agree with kevin m that there was some stick height issues, which can definitely happen with fortissimo slams. Also, don't need to knock him down. yeah, may not necessarily be at the level, but he can say his opinion. it is us who do know more to explain and share our knowledge. I do agree though...we are going to attempting vortex on the illinois line this year and I think the head bobbing can help with subdivision, but at a certain point, it can be a distraction to the audience. Part of corps especially is uniformity so if he is bobbing excessively it disrupts the uniformity. As a center for tenors that is a little more acceptable but I noticed the end snare a bit out of control haha overall...bluecoats are sounding great and rooting for them and our fellow cavies/illini drumline snare members this year

      Adam Heavens "changing the game"? not really. good hands, good instruction, good talent..yes.

      Adam Heavens It's a warm up and like a warm up in anything you want to get into the right mindset for a performance, game, etc. Get as hype as you want and then go kick the shit out of the performance, other team, etc. You can lock it back up when you go perform

      Hmmm. I guess Nick Cannon lead a 2nd place drumline this season. Thats interesting. Times are changing people. Get used to it.

    This is what I used to love so much about the old Casella/Gusseck Santa Clara lines: Groove, Chops & Style all their own, but amped up a few notches! The kit player is a million times better better then that dreaded dr. beat "beep." It j just feels "good". And my god, I'm going to steal that bass tuning ! I'm not sure if that's anything new, but the chord they create just rocks.

    • @chrisdrumm4116
      @chrisdrumm4116 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ChrisDrumm Ahhh... checking some other vids, the bass tuning is pretty conventional. It sounds like the bass is boosted a bit in this clip and the bass 5's tone is distorting a bit; but I'm still going to see if I can find a way to replicate this!!!

    • @TylerBroadhurst92
      @TylerBroadhurst92 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ChrisDrumm Hey man! It's a major chord. Should be from the bottom drum:
      Bass 5 = Do
      Bass 4 = Sol
      Bass 3 = Do
      Bass 2 = Mi
      Bass 1 = Either Sol or Fi (hard to hear in this vid)
      Example if you are tuning to C is:
      Bass 5 = C
      Bass 4 =G
      Bass 3 = C
      Bass 2 = E
      Bass 1 = G or F#

    anyone care to tell me whats up with the small drum set they are using for a metronome? Why are they doing that?

    I don't see how anyone is capable of criticizing a 4 time bluecoat. Especially the quadline

  • @haydenchandler1738
    @haydenchandler1738 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Just in case of anyone's wanting to know why he is using a drum set as a metronome, it's because to the drummers it feel more natural. If you have a constant beep of an electronic metronome, it's almost like it becomes annoying and you don't feel a rythm. So, if you put in a drum set it makes keeping up the tempo more natural.
    I know, because my band director does this, and we notice a big difference coming from the electronic metronome.

    Why do the snares have their left sleeves rolled up like that?

    • @MusicalAbsinthe
      @MusicalAbsinthe 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's just what they do, basses have both sleeves, snares have one sleeve, quads have no sleeves

    • @haydenchandler1738
      @haydenchandler1738 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The sleeves also help with control for your left arm. It's so that the sleeve doesn't keep your arm from extending out and not having good control. Quads have both off, because they move both of their arms around, and they need as much control as possible.

    • @alexgaeckle1540
      @alexgaeckle1540 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ihatenjoi It's also a tradition they have been doing since 2007 i believe or it might be 2008.

    • @ricky.t9797
      @ricky.t9797 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Relax it when you play and try to build more chops on that hand.

    • @ricky.t9797
      @ricky.t9797 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also make sure your not squeezing the stick too hard with your fingers. Only apply pressure on your fulcrum and turn your wrist and let the stick bounce. Make sure you are not trying to pump every note out by using arm, you should let the drum do most of the work for you.

    OKAY PEOPLE LET'S SETTLE THIS CRAP: THE CENTER TENOR PLAYER *IS NOT* NICK CANNON FOR GOD'S SAKE. NICK CANNON IS A BAD TECHNIQUE USING SNARE PLAYER. THE CENTER SEXTET PLAYER HERE IS REUEL CAMACHO AND IS ONE OF THE BEST TENOR PLAYERS TO PLAY WITH THE BLUECOATS EVER. AND FOR ALL OF YOU WHO THINK THAT HE IS "OVERHYPED", "SOUNDS MUDDY" or "DETUNES HEADS PREMATURELY": I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU DO BETTER #ruenanifrickinnahh

      Tanner Henry Being an expert in a field doesn't make one infallible. Personally, I don't see a huge issue with the technique, but that doesn't mean the concerns of others are invalid.
