    Recorded live at "Sounds Good Music" in Ottawa Ontario, Canada, Lucas is taking a look at the Eastman SB 59-V-GB, and what a stunner this one is! If we detach ourselves from the name on the headstalk we can open our minds up to amazing handmade instruments like this one. Take a listen and hear for yourself what Guitar Tone Tuesday is all about!
    A 19th Century Violin Workshop in Beijing, Eastman Stringed Instruments has been around since 1992, first making violins and other stringed instruments, then entering into the guitar world, the company represents supreme craftsmanship at a more affordable price point.
    Guitar featured:
    Eastman SB59-V-GB with solid one piece mahogany body with varnish finish, solid 2 piece flamed maple gloss top with slight aging, solid one piece mahogany neck with varnish finish, ebony fingerboard with Jescar fret wire, 24.75 inch scale-length, 12 inch radius, and bone nut with 1-11-16 string spacing.
    Aged varnish French polish finish.
    2 custom wound Lolar Imperial pickups.
    500K CTS pots, switch craft output jack, aged Gotoh hardware all around, and a very nice hard shell case.
    This guitar has a slightly different shape than a regular LP, and Lucas finds it a little more comfortible to hold, coming more from the strat/telecaster world. With a price tag around $2500 Canadian, the SB 59-V-GB is definitely worth checking out if you are on an LP quest.

    Hi Lucas! Awesome playing! I just got a goldburst Eastman SB59/v this week and I am absolutely blown away by how good it is. It's easily the best guitar I've ever played, and of the 30 or so I own, it is definitely tied for first place with my Gibson P90 gold top. I think it might have finally cured my GAS! :)

      That’s amazing! To be honest, I’ve had a similar experience. I don’t know if you’ve caught episode 224 of this series, but it showcases my very own SB 59/V that I took possession of last year. The one I found is the black over Sunburst. Tried a bunch of them in store and there was something about that particular Guitar that really spoke to me. The resonance is absolutely insane.. Huge congrats on your new guitar!! I’m very fortunate to have a few really nice instruments that I’ve acquired over the years but like you I would say my SB 59/V is right up at the top along with my other Eastman electric, which is a T185 MX that I’ve had since 2012, and my two handmaid Melancon Strat/telecaster style guitars. Among those four, I really feel like I’ve got my bases covered and all of them are just magical instruments. My favourite just depends on the gig I’m going to, or how I feel when I wake up in the morning. Haha. I will say, and this is one thing I discussed in the more recent video, my SB 59/V goes into beautiful harmonic feedback more easily than any of my other guitars and the sustain is just spectacular. By the way, congrats on the gold burst. I love that finish. Initially I wanted to find one in that color, but alas, I’ve ended up with that black beast

      @@LucasHaneman I agree. The resonance and sustain on the SB59/v is amazing and unlike any other guitar I own, which includes a number of nice Gibsons and a Heritage, in addition to several other Eastmans. In general, I'd say Eastmans have become my favorite guitars to play. They just feel right and sound killer. I love the ebony fretboards and the neck shapes are just perfect.

      I completely know what you’re talking about Derek. I am lucky to have quite a few amazing instruments, but I have a lot of respect for the people who play one or two, and just play the crap out of them! I think I’ve resolved myself to the fact that, at least for now, different guitars are a different way for me to stay inspired and explore lots of unique sounds. I can see myself though as an old man someday just having one ridiculously great telecaster and one amazing acoustic. At the end of the day I think that’s all I would really need if push came to shove. Haha. Thanks for watching :-)

    Nice demo of what used to be a steal of a deal for a single cut solidbody guitar. Thanks to COVID and the changing world economy the prices have jumped considerably BUT these are still worth the going price. I own Gibson Les Pauls but I PLAY my Eastman SB59 and SB56 models. Well made with great tone and playability.

      Thanks so much for checking out the video, and sounds like you've got a nice couple of guitars there! I agree, prices are getting crazy, and not just for guitars unfortunately. Happy I got my Eastmans when I did. That said, amazing instruments that appear to be getting even more consistent these last few years, and considering the quality, still very much worth it for sure.

      @LucasHaneman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@darrenmcfarlane1910 I’ve played many great Gibsons in my life, but I actually traded in my ES137 four my Eastman T185MX 10 years ago now, and never looked back. The Eastman I ended up with is a far superior instrument to that old Gibson I had for me and my playing style. The most important difference is the neck. I love the wide neck on my Eastman, though when I purchased my Gibson I was too young to know much about neck profiles. There are many other things about that Eastman that make it the right guitar for me, but needless to say that experience opened up my eyes to this brand, and now I own one of their mandolins as well as one of their OM body style acoustics. All fantastic instruments!

    Awesome Lucas, thank you for you demoing this in a such a good way, instrumental and not trying it to make it stand out more than a Gibson or making excuses for beeing a Asian made guitar as many other does on TH-cam.
    Your video made me to come to conclusion to order one. So now a SB59/V Antique Black is on its way and will arrive within two days. Im very excited :)

    • @LucasHaneman
      @LucasHaneman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really appreciate your kind words. Of course this is a little bit different than a Gibson, so I don’t think that it necessarily needs to be compared. One could have both this and a Gibson, but in my opinion you really are getting a custom shop quality instrument at a very reasonable price all things being considered. I’m surprised to hear the people are making excuses when talking about this guitar. To me it needs no excuses or apologies as it’s just a fantastic guitar all around. Craftsmanship is great, and electronics are fantastic as well. I was seriously tempted by this one :-) glad to hear you have ordered one to call your own. Please let me know what you think when you get it if you get a chance. I have no deals with Eastman, I just really believe in their products, and have three of their instruments myself. I’ve been impressed by them since I tried my first in 2011 or so! I think there are a lot of people out there like me who are full-time musicians, and are just into the sound and the feel first and foremost. Best of luck, and thanks for commenting!

    • @LucasHaneman
      @LucasHaneman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This guitar was as loud acoustically as many semi hollow body guitars I’ve played. It is super light weight for a Les Paul and I think this is probably why it is so resonant.

    @guyb7005 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Though not as expensive as an LP, I wasn't sure how this could be a budget or value option until you described the components and played some variations on the tone. I'm also not a big fan of relic treatments to the finish, but this one is so tastefully done and gorgeous. What a great sounding option! and your playing truly captured the potential of this model - nice!

    • @LucasHaneman
      @LucasHaneman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, definitely still an expensive guitar, but when compared to the ridiculous prices of Gibson custom shop, especially those new Murphy lab aged guitars that go for $10,000, this is high value. I certainly don’t want to discount the truly high value instruments though made by Eppiphone, Greco, Bernie, Yamaki etc., as those are also amazing, and certainly quite affordable in comparison. I agree with you about the relic work. I do not like it when it’s over done, but when it just feels like a guitar that has been loved, and when you barely know that it’s there, it’s quite nice:-) It kind of feels like the natural where I have on my Eastman electric for instance, after 10 years of regular play and a good amount of gigging

    Beautiful guitar and great playing! I recently got an Eastman T484 semi-hollow in gold burst and an SB59 in the sunburst color. Both fantastic guitars! I have some Gibsons and a Heritage as well, and the Eastman holds its own with the best of them.

      @LucasHaneman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s awesome!! I couldn’t agree with you more. I own four Eastmans now, three guitars and one mandolin that I’ve had for about 12 years. The mandolin and my old T1 85MX from around the same time cemented how great these guitars are in my mind. Since then I picked up one of their acoustics, a couple of years back as a Christmas gift from my lovely wife, and most recently a black SB 59/V from the Music Store where I did this demo. All of them are excellent inspiring instruments that stay in tune and resonate like nobody’s business. :-) I definitely caught the Eastman bug L O L. Sounds like you’ve got a couple of beautiful ones yourself. Nice that you’ve got a heritage as well. I’ve always loved those guitars.

      Completely worth it in my humble opinion. Based on my experience owning two Eastman guitars and one of their mandolins, I can say I I don’t think you will be disappointed. From what I know Eastman makes their guitars in small batches as everything is done by hand, so this is why musicians and dealers have to wait to receive them. Do it! I wanted a Gibson CS for some time, but didnt have the funds at the moment, but searching I found Eastman and love everything I read about it, especially the fact they are light (mine weighs just under 8LB). I just love mine and haven't had gAS for a Gibson CS since then.
      On top of that, I recently got a PRS 594 Mccarty Semi Hollow. Wow, the PRS is amazing in quality and in every aspect. But what is cool, is that I found that in quality and construction, and components the Eastman is at the same level as the PRS. So after getting the PRS my respect for Eastman is even higher.

The feel/weight/workmanship is really there, and best of all the tuning stability seems to be great as well. To me this is a really big deal when considering a guitar. Not surprised to hear you say that the workmanship is on par with your PRS. In the last few years in particular Eastman has really stepped up their fret work etc..
