    I have a rework station just like the author, so a pretty confined air stream... But obviously not confined enough. When heating the screen, avoid the edges. Heat the screen itself a little inside the frame, or the frame which is plastic, will get little distortions where it gets hot and melts. Since you're removing the glass and the metal underneath, don't worry about heat soaking into the phone. The screen will come off long before that's a problem. Just thought I'd note this.
    Also, during removal of the screen, that tiny little mesh grill for over the speaker might get lost in the pieces of glass. Keep an eye out for that and be careful not to bend or break it.
    Great video showing all the steps.
    Another note, the screws are a #3 Torx (at least on my phone). Lowes sells a craftsman set with those in there for around $8. Don't get the $11 set with more pieces, they are larger and it's not in there.

    Tip: if you can't unstick the battery without damaging or bending it, use a syringe and squirt some paraffin (lamp oil) around the edge of the battery. Let it soak for 30 minutes. Very gently raise one of the corners (i used the upper left one, the BMS side) and using some skewers or tiny screwdrivers, work a piece of dental floss under the battery corner. Work your way down so the dental floss is under the whole BMS board.
    Now bit by bit, with sawing motion, cut through the glue layer with the dental floss. The oil will prevent the battery from sticking back to the adhesive pads after the dental floss has passed through it.

    Thanks for the informative video. You have more or less convinced me that replacing the battery is too difficult and risky for me. I now understand why Motorola charges as much as replacing the phone for fixing it out of warranty. I think this phone is too fragile for everyday use. Now we know why!

    • @jakedunnegan
      @jakedunnegan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Too fragile? I think not. I have given it as a gift to three of my children at or around August of 2020. (Ages at the time: 11, 15, 19). One has broken the screen from dropping it (which is why I'm here) - however, they bring it to school every day. Given how kids treat phones, it's been remarkably durable and it is a LOT of phone for the price.
      Having said that, the kids all have pretty decent cases for the phones, but I don't think this is any more or less fragile than the Samsung Note 8 I have. If you get a half decent case for the Moto G, it'll hold up pretty well, and at a quarter of the price of a similar specced out phone.

    • @mfbfreak
      @mfbfreak ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jakedunnegan Previous versions of the Moto G were MUCH more durable. This is because on earlier versions, the plastic of the case would wrap around the glass of the screen. In contrast to the older models, the glass of the G8 sits on top of the plastic, so when you drop it onto a corner the screen often breaks. This happened to me.
      The G4 and G5 i used while doing delivery service have fallen many times onto their corners, with the only damage being deep dents in the plastic.
      Still, the G8 is reasonably sturdy for a modern phone.

    • @mfbfreak
      @mfbfreak ปีที่แล้ว

      Replacing the battery is doable if you weaken the adhesive with some lamp oil, and then use a long piece of dental floss to 'saw' through the adhesive pads that hold the battery in place. This will not put any stress on the battery whatsoever.
      I agree, just prying the battery out is risky. You may be able to do it easily if you have a cellphone heating pad, but i tried it with just a hairdryer and decided i had to put too much force onto the battery to feel safe.

    • @jakedunnegan
      @jakedunnegan ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mfbfreak Yeah, that's fair. I still think the Moto G series is solid, but I've certainly seen some issues when it comes to trying to replace a battery. I wish more phones made that easy to do, but I imagine that would cut into their desire to get customers to upgrade sooner!

    IMO the Moto G8/9 Power range need a substantially toughened case (or screen if possible).
    They are so heavy the phone is particularly vulnerable to cracks and shattering if dropped which is inevitable.
    I had a protective case but still cracked. I only had mine 6 months so gutted. The screen then starred from wear and tear.
    They are good phones but I'd advise buying a very strong case plus thin screen protector film and protective glass over that. 🍀😱

    • @RealWorldReview
      @RealWorldReview  3 ปีที่แล้ว
