What impressed me the most with Pickett was that he made smart decisions. Never threw a pass into double coverage. Nearly all his passes were thrown to where only his receiver could catch it. He didn’t get antsy and run unless he had to. Really the only bad play was the sack where he has to throw the ball away or just go down instead of risking injury. For his first preseason game, and his number 1 wideout was Boykin who is 5th or 6th on the depth chart, 3rd string o-line, and had 3 running backs in Warren, Durrant, and Teague who were all UDFA, he did exceptionally well.

Most likely I think tribusky starts this year unless he bombs which I can’t see happening so id think Pickett will start next year but could take over late in the season if they aren’t doing great. I don’t have a problem with him sitting a year and learning the offense to help him going forward instead of being thrown in too soon like tribusky was and possibly failing. Although he probably wouldn’t but why risk possibly making it harder on him going forward if it doesn’t. I don’t want to see a star wash out like tribusky did which is also a star.

He's definitely the most polished and NFL ready QB of the draft. His high floor makes him a safer pick, but if he can live up to his potential, he can be a great pure passer, which he'll need to be to lead this offense to be one of the best in the league. If the offense can be electric, though, with that defense they'll be a dangerous team. Good luck to him.

@@whohasmygun9909 nothing he said was wrong. He is the most polished out of all the rookie QBs. That’s doesn’t mean it’s a guarantee that he will be the best. It is well known that Pickett is the only rookie QB that had a shot at starting week one. Willis, Corral, Howell, and Ridder are alright but each of them have something horrible they have to fix. Willis has to learn how to read a defense and not run after 2 seconds. Corral has to learn an offense that isn’t all about RPOs and work on his accuracy. Both Howell and Ridder also have to work on their intermediate accuracy and anticipation. Pickett is the most accurate, can read a defense, throws with anticipation, can run if need be, and makes smart decisions. Hence why he has the highest floor. Again, this isn’t saying he is the best and will be the best. It’s saying that if you had to bet who will be the best and who is the safest bet, it’s Pickett.

@@normanno8514 yes, partially because of injury. Their best run stopper in Alualu was out. Elite DE in Tuitt was also out. Then Carlos Davis got hurt. Pittsburgh literally needed to go to Green Bays practice squad and grab Montravius Adams and made his a starter because their d-line was all injured. It also didn’t help that Pittsburgh’s offense was a joke and constantly made the defense have to come back onto the field. Let’s not forget, Pittsburgh had a top tier run defense a couple seasons ago when Heyward, Alualu, Watt, Highsmith, and Bush were all healthy. As long as they can stay somewhat healthy and have an offense that is even just average to give them rest, they will go back to being great.

If every pass throw is 8 yrs or less from line of scrimmage ya gonna have a tight compact defense. Means less yrds after catch. And those yrds important to consistency in drives. Keeping the safety's an dbs down field on double moves with some air under the ball occasionally. But preseason hype builds fans hopes.

Pickett looked decent agaisnt these backups .. taking nothing away from him but what I’m more impressed with is some of the plays called I saw .. that last touchdown to be exact that route combo agaisnt that coverage was just a thing of beauty .. two out patters from the outside guys tight on a post a drag route and in cut patter by running back made natural picks the out patters both won .. man that’s just a glimpse of what’s to come .. if our qbs can just make the right read and don’t turn the ball over we are going to be just fine post ben era

The O-line has to do its job too - they've been shaky as hell the last few years but hopefully with the acquisitions we made our QB's will have enough time to make the right reads and hold onto the ball.
