One of the greatest episodes of the entire series!!! Spike Is my boy and this episode solidifies why!!! Such a deep character and the perfect foil for Buffy Summers.

I think there is a theory that the slayer that Spike killed first was wielding an enchanted sword. One that could do "human" damage to vampires, which is why his injury to his eyebrow didn't heal perfect, and left a permanent scar.
When the show first aired, this was the episode my nephew and I used to lure my mother into fandom.
Incidentally, the attraction of Spike to Buffy has been a very long and winding development; the dream was just the trigger, but the bullet's been there a long time.

Buffy and Angel truly are underrated shows. Even Firefly didn't get what it deserved.
Mackenzie may look a lot like Faith, but that Tee shirt is so cute it looks more like something Willow would wear hehe.
"He didn't like the character that much" Well Whedon didn't like either vampire character, Angel nor Spike. He was never that invested in either of them as much as the other human characters. But hey, the audience was! Marti Noxon is on record as saying before FFL Spike had been a fairly popular character with the audience and the production office always received a fair amount of feedback saying as much....but, after FFL aired his popularity went through the roof, with the office inundated with fan mail about his character.
Personally I think this episode is a stand out, not just in terms of production values (due in part to the costs being shared across with AtS) but in terms of the acting. I know you guys downplayed JM's involvement in this one, but hell imo he was sooo good. And the superficial in me thinks he never looked so feral/beautiful as when he's dressed as punk Spike. LOL
And I know you didn't show it, but at the time when Spike broke down and cried, hell that really threw me. Yep, a great episode thats often cited by fans as one of the best BTVS ever made.
James Marsters deserved an Emmy just for that scene where he makes the switch from Spike to William, back to Spike again, all in about 45 seconds.

Spike is a fucking demon, an indiscriminate murderer of women and children, and Buffy-fans keeps thinking he is oohhh so fine and nice and pretty and.... in other words, there is a large part of the fanbase that are just as stupid and moronic as the Twilight fans.

@@MrSmokinDragon someone seems to be reading way too much into a damn TV show. People are allowed to like which ever character they feel like. Spike is a damn amazing character and James done an excellent job at portraying him.
Oh good, it's been unblocked. God, how I love this particular episode. It's the one that made me a Spike fan and pretty much started the whole Spike "Redemptionist" movement among the online fanbase at the time. This is the first episode where we really get any background on Spike, other than what other people (Angel and Giles) have said about him. At one time, there were several "Bloody Awful Poet" websites just dedicated to Spike fanfiction and analysis of the character. FFL is on most people's top 10 lists and rightfully so...

This has always been my favorite season too. I've always said this show doesn't need a reboot but maybe a show that explores other slayers in different times. American horror story style

So unless this site’s list is incorrect, we are seeing it as it was intended.
Yeah i think the right order is Fool for love first because like that when Drusilla say "I smell fear" you can think it s Angelus who realize his "student" overcome him.
But when you see the Angel version of this épisode, you can see it s because of the missionary.
It s funny because it is about how Spike and Angel remember it. Spike finally took his revenge about Angelus and probably think he left after because he was mad.
But to Angel, this memory show him that he create a true monster who was able to kill a Slayer, and he was thinking to the innocent he tried to protect.
Best Crossover episode after, just before the one with Faith in Season One of Angel 🙂
I read through that blog and there is a lot of good there but it seems this change was a personal choice made by the blogger and has obviously hit a nerve with some people. He even wrote an essay to justify the change: josswhedon.blogspot.com/2015/02/why-darla-is-better-watched-before-fool.html
What I take away from his justification is that he wrote the list partly just to make this specific change. He also didn't see the episode when it aired but later on DVD and had initially watched Darla first and prefers it that way. I watched it when it first aired and (funnily enough!) prefer Fool for Love first...
Each to their own!
Personally I think you get the best out this by watching FFL first, otherwise the William reveal looses all It's impact and imo thats an important scene in this.
PapaElbo I’ve seen it now in both ways and I can say that while it makes sense for Darla to come first, I also found it delightful having it revealed this way as it kind of fills in the blanks in an entirely unexpected way. Sorry many are disappointed.
@@FANTHEORYTV As they say, reactions are not supposed to replace watching the show for yourself and I have watched both several times over the years. Speaking for myself, "dissapointed" is too strong a word. I'm enjoying all your reactions to Buffy and Angel so do keep up the great work. It was just a little confusing as you released them in the correct order (Buffy then Angel) but had obviously watched them reversed. It was interesting to read why that episode list was made.
I can see that bloggers perspective; he is an author and he wants to play up what he thinks is a more "dramatic" presentation over 85 minutes of TV as a hook for introducing new viewers into watching both shows. To be honest, there are probably much better standalone episodes for this purpose.
Speaking as an audience member, I feel the episodes should be viewed as aired. If you think like Whedon, Buffy fans are going to watch their episode first and immediately assume they were watching Angelus with Darla, Spike and Dru. And it was Angelus getting annoyed with Spike killing the Slayer... which also kinda feeds into Angelus having such competitivness with Spike as we saw all the way back in Season 2.
But Whedon wants to subvert expectations. So when you watch Angel as aired immediately after Buffy, they show the same flashbacks again but with a different perspective and a few crucial extra scenes. In the end we get answers to a few questions from the Buffy episode - who did William bump into on his way to the party and why did it seem like Dru was waiting for Wiliam afterwards. And the real kicker, we find out that Angelus was never at the Boxer Revolution. It was Angel. And rather than being annoyed that Spike got to kill a Slayer, he was actually just sickened by the senseless killing and nervous the others could sense he was not the same person (which Dru almost did).
and yes Spikes face!!! It´s soooo so pretty and that laughter.

I never thought when I first watched "Lover's Walk" on the FX Network that the throwaway line or what seemed to be a throwaway line about "She left me for a Chaos Demon, ever seen a Chaos Demon, they're all Slime and Antlers." that the producers of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" would actually show a Chaos Demon and the description was very accurate, lol. This was the scene where I got the message: If you're paying attention, this may pay off later.

Kyle, I did a video editing project years back for funzies. I took all the flashbacks from both series and edited them together in chronological order, and it works as a story in it's own right. Its on Vimeo and the title is "Fanged Four Histories". The thing starts with Darla being sired and ends with Angel meeting Whistler in Becoming pt1. I had to upload it in several parts because the whole thing is about three hours long, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it if you could maybe watch it and do reactions to each part. Pretty please? I'm broke, but if you do it on your Patreon I will deffo subscribe. Also, since there is content that Mackenzie hasn't gotten to yet, you could do a solo/quatartine reaction. Please?
