MY CAT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE ME?! - Do Pets Recognize You After FtM Transition?

I was worried to find out the answer to this question, but here goes, do pets recognize you when you go through a transition?

i left my cat with a friend for a year because i needed to take of from school to start my transition, when i came back he recognized me immediately.

I live with my cat and we are always in the same room together i think maybe he just thinks i went through puberty super late lol which is pretty accurate i guess. But my parents cat acted weird for a while but loves me again now dunno if she figured it out or just thinks im a new family member. The way that you pat them aswell probably gives them a clue - the way you interact with them etc

Ah yeah maybe that's what clued her into who I was, cause I'm the only one that knows her favourite spots and how to pet her✨✨

Wow this is actually a really interesting theory, I'd like to see more stuff on this. I'm sure if your cat was with you through your whole transition they would easily adapt to recognize you but I'm also sure leaving for a while then coming back so different can be really confusing to a cat or any other pet. As for your smell changing, It might at least be similar and that's why it took a bit for her to warm up to him? Cats like to scent things and rub smells of stuff they like on themselves so maybe Lucy smelled laddies "base" scent, so to speak, and she thought he was like a friend of the person she recognized so she thought he was cool after that. Or maybe she just recognized him from that. Either way cats really love their people but they express it way differently than a lot of other pets do and by the looks of it she really loves you laddie!

Yeah me and my cat had a special bond from the day we met, let when we first adopted her she would only sit in the corner of my bed and only wanted me to come into the room so I'm glad she's back to her normal self around me. She's apparently been looking for me ever since I went up to uni now!

I found that my dog knows me but he does not know my new name. while my cats recognize me right away.

My pets have always recognized me since I've been with them my whole transition and they've seen me change, but the other day I suddenly got a haircut and my dog barked at me through the window until she smelled me when I got in and then my cats were running away and staring at me from the top of the stairs. I thought it was pretty funny.

left my dogs to go to university and started testosterone. came back 4 months on T and they didn't recognise me at all :( I guess i smell, look and sound different.
