It's a nice detail that the enemies scurry away scared once they're defeated, instead of just vanishing like other games of this genre. And it's very in character too!
Konami always did a fantastic job making arcade games based on franchises!
The best thing is that they stayed true to source material and most of them were beat-'em-ups :D

This was always one of my favourites in the arcade, definitely one of the best Asterix games ever made.
I played this once as a child on a random arcade in Birmingham UK (at "Birmingham Wheels") - the music stayed with me my whole life. 20 years later I'm looking it up on youtube :)

Definitely. Their beat-em ups from this period were at the top…. And most of them were media adaptations (TMNT, Simpsons, X-Men, Asterix, etc.).

Back in 1995 my girlfriend and I took a train from Vermont to Montreal for a comiccon...afterwards we smoked a big fattie and wandered around the city...we found this crazy comic shop/arcade where they had this coin-op game...dumped about $10 Canadian into it...good fun...
Konami should release an anthology for its arcade games. Asterix, Ninja Turtles, Simpsons and many more.
This is probably never going to happen. It would be incredibly expensive and hard to acquire all the licenses.

I can remember playing this as a young kid in the 90s on holiday in Italy. Really great! I think here in Germany these acrades did not really exist, at least not for underage people.

I played this recently on MAME, and it was brilliant. I know a Konami 90s Arcade Beat-Em Up Collection would be a nightmare (so many licenses!) but I would buy it in a second as there would be so many great games in there... Turtles, X-Men, Simpsons... they must have put something in the water there in the 90s.
I find it interesting that the text is in both french and english in this game. I mean, granted it's a game based on a french comics series, but i wouldn't have expected this level of detail for an arcade game.

I *actually* remember this arcade game at my local Odeon cinema during the 1990s (Brighton). Along with "The Simpsons". *ME OLD NOW!* PS: Going to Parc Asterix remains on my bucket list!

I know this is the silliest detail to get hung up on, but I laughed at the man-eating sharks in the English Channel.
I once bought an old arcade machine on a flea market, and a box with 7 games for it, including this one (the "game cartridge" for old arcade machines are large circuit boards, ca. 40x30cm, and you had to open the whole machine to change it.)
Sold it years later to a collector, for 4 times what I bought it for :)
This game never ends it's like the arcades from the 80's
A remake would be nice.

I remember being really good at this game. I wasn't very good at beat em ups as a kid, but this one I could beat. Also it was very fun to play.
To this day, i still don't see how the chariots stages fit in Asterix's universe but i also used countless coins in this game (and never went far in it). i also believe it's the greatest Asterix game ever made.

I'd probably be down for a Popeye beat'em up by Konami. (The Nintendo one is a puzzle platformer that wasn't created during the 16-bit era)

In looking for a game... amiga... i can remember a horse with a carriage? Behind it... and suddenly a bad Guy gets next to iT and snatches the girl out of it... you as a player jump on the horse and chase the guy.. you have to avoid obstacles.. after that level you are in a city .. can’t remember more.. does anyone know?

I dont know why they couldn't port this to the Snes or Megadrive- it would have been great- like a slapstick Streets of Rage or Final Fight!
Probably because at that time the home console Astérix license was held by Sega for his own systems and by Infogrames for the Nintendo ones. This was the same problem Konami had with The Simpsons license, held by Acclaim in the console front and the reason why in that case they could only release the arcade game on computers.
And me was searching everyday in the stores for this game for the snes 😢 it was a hopeless search
@@WeskerSega asterix wasn't licenced with sega or nintendo. the company of the asterix cartoon own the licence. some arcade games just don't make good console ports. arcade game too hard and not big enough, for example. in the arcade you're constantly flooded with enemies and this makes the game last over an hour otherwise you'd fly through it in 5minutes.
@@fraser_mr2009 You don't seem to understand how licensed videogames work. Sega had the Asterix license to work with for their own systems (Master System, Game Gear and Mega Drive) back in the day. Infogrames had it for the rest of home platforms, which include the Nintendo systems and also the computer ones. Konami was stuck with the arcade license and therefore couldn't bring this game home. It wasn't because of what you say about arcade games because arcade games were big on 8 and 16 bit consoles back in the day and they actually brought some of their other licensed arcades like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ones to home platforms, because they could do it due to owning the licenses. Konami also faced a similar problem with their The Simpsons arcade game, they could only get the license for arcade and also home computers this time (so they also ported the game to PC and Commodore 64) but couldn't to consoles because Acclaim had it first. That's how things actually worked back then and it's a known fact that Konami would have brought this game to consoles if they could have.

this is one of the few times where a game is in 2 languages instead of 1, when most games would change languages in a re-release or a DIP switch.

Lolodachi XXL series is not repetitive, they are fantastic for me because I love this games!
