Its my favorite place also! I take a train there (also railfan in San Diego) and for my birthday, I don't have parties. I go to San Diego and go plane spotting at KSAN (San Diego Intl Airport) And also railfan the Amtrak/Metrolink Trains and also the MTS (Metropolitan Transit System) Tram/Light rail.
Landmark ! At 1:54, U.S. Navy Basic Training 'Boot Camp', circa Jan 1973. Now San Diego Fire Dept Training Grounds. 2:05, North Island Naval Air Station. 3:45, Mission Bay off to the left.
Amazing initial climb rate in the neighborhood of 3000 FPM! Miss that familiar Airbus whine I used to hear every 10 minutes, now with no one flying the skies are pretty quiet.
Wow, I've made that take off dozens of times. I wonder if planes can take off going the opposite way---up and over the city? My guess is that a commercial jet could not gain altitude fast enough to clear the buildings of downtown San Diego.
All the time they do it, when the marine layer comes in the city gets fogged in and they have to shoot ILS approaches they have to use runway 9 because its the only runway with an ILS. So they'll takeoff and land on runway 9. That happens a lot, especially in June for June Gloom, and whenever minimums are lower.
Once it was really stormy and the tower started using runway 09 for departures. I was at the parking structure on the approach for 27. The planes started doing steep departures out of 09 to avoid all the buildings.
I don't know what buzzing noise is but it sure doesn't sound normal. Somethings not right. I'd hate to have to listen to that for hours and hours on a flight.
I trust the Rolls Royce engines any day over GE engines ( remember BA hot section failure at Las Vegas and AA similar failure at O'hare resulting in horrible fires in both cases
San Diego is absolutely beautiful one of my favorite places :)
You´re right:)

Wonderful video, shows everything! Appreciated the closeup of downtown, too. :-)
We lived in San Diego (Chula Vista) from 1987-1993 while my hubby was in the Navy...I still miss it! Great video!

Before watching takeoff, I’m gonna guess it’s the poggy 4 departure
poggers???

I think they can make it..at least empty:)

Sounds like a 757´s rocket RB211!
It definetely sounds:)
San Diego airport only has one runway and it's too short for the newest air buses. They need a new air port. Beautiful city though.
Since a 747 can land there, sounds like an Airbus problem and for those who purchase it.
My hometown I'm so lucky to be born and raised here.
awesome thanks for sharing
You´re very welcome:)
wow beautiful....
Thank you:)
It’s funny how the boats look stuck 🤣
MCRD starboard side errrr
quad spool!
Rip-roaring departure filming!
Thank you very much:)
I can see my house from here.
I can’t. I live in Alabama

I wonder why they didn't name the airport after the first men to fly the Atlantic non-stop eight years before Lindbergh, oh I know, they were British
Video sped up. Way sped up. Cant believe you numbskulls did not notice that.
Hate those noisy Rolls Royce Engines
:)
Michael Difede they're IAE engines, not RR.
CFM-56-5B
Dave Contarino they are CFM engines not rr and not IAE's
Sorry for my bad English
I don't like those either, whatever the make/brand. First time I thought something was wrong and we would need to turn back.
boring takeoff
:)
true
Great video.
