Prokofiev's attitude to his most popular melody was simply astonishing. He composes it for an opera, then decides not to use it, holds on to it for 10 years, finally includes it in a ballet, then doesn't bother to include it in the 1st suite. It's like he was jealous of it
One go better: The story of Vertigo parallel Prokofiev's Opera The Fiery Angel. Prokofiev's Renata and Hitchcock's Madeline are possessed women looking for their angel while Jimmy Stewart plays the Rupert character hopelessly in love with Kim Novak's Renata. Renata dies on the cross while Madeline falls to her death from the Bell Tower... both deaths at a convent. The LA Phil did a great video on this: th-cam.com/video/WrH-5Omr_Fo/w-d-xo.html
Can someone explain to me how the different Romeo and Juliet suites work? Because if you listen to an album of the piece, for example, there are more movements
Various ballets have orchestral suites that were created from them for orchestral-only performances without having to sit down for two and a half hours.
@@ShockzG5 Does the program not say what they're playing? I would assume they'd only play one unless it says both. Or do you mean the ballet? The ballet has more music in it than just the suites.
@@Pennwisedom they ended up playing this suite + the minuet from the first suite, and all the program said was “Romeo and Juliet, Prokofiev” so I wasn’t too sure😅. Great performance though! Lots of talented young musicians scattered throughout the orchestra.

Have you done the first suite?
@28:09 is Vertigo
Surely Herrmann was drinking from Profofiev's compositions!

They’ve been put together to be a nice sampling for a concert performance

@@Pennwisedom so basically at the concert, both suites will be played? I’m going to see this live tonight and was also curious

great ear, something felt off aswell... Just noticed the french horn didnt enter on time and played a few bars off 😆
I don't think so, I can hear the horn come in on time@@pedrocarvalho6609. It comes in on the anacrusis no?
