Hi from Sydney, Australia... this is my families home town, I walk all these streets every year when we go there for holidays to visit my wife’s family who still live there. It’s beautiful to see it like this since I wasn’t able to travel this year due to Covid, but I wish you knew where you were walking as you’re missing so much walking back and forwards and up and down and missing so much of the historical spots and buildings hehehe I may have to do one when I get a chance to go back and show the town properly. This town is older than Rome and is called the City of Popes as a few of them came from this town in history. The town is some 2500 years old... So nice to see the shops we visit whilst there and buy food and the Coffee Bars we stop at in the morning and afternoons. Many Thanks ☺️

I live not too far away from it: it's a pleasure reading comments such as yours and knowing people from far away countries can "revive" a little the atmoshperes there! Indeed, there are many other small and beautiful alleys, a full tour would very much be great. Let me know if you plan to also do it! It truly deserves to be known as it's a beautiful town and not so far from Rome too. Thank you again and I hope you'll be back in Anagni soon! Riccardo

Hello, reading what you wrote I recognized you, you are Riccardo Morini, the son of Enzo my great childhood friend, for me and your father, those alleys you saw had no secrets, after school the places for our games were those. Your father, your aunt Luisa and your uncle Alberto keep this city of ours in their hearts, which if it were treated a little better would have nothing to envy to the Italian cities of art.
I visited Anagni for the first time, and was pleasantly impressed. Very friendly citizens, excellent cuisine, the moon that hangs over the cathedral is hypnotic, not to mention the sunset with the bells. An exciting leap into the past. In the slap room I was also moved. To visit absolutely.

Hi Merrillb, good question. If you go from Anagni toward Naples, I would suggest the following beautiful towns, accessible by train. They are all on the coastline though, as the train tracks unfortunately can't reach the little towns near Anagni (a real shame actually...) - Terracina - Sperlonga (walked there!) - Gaeta (walked there too) Near Anagni, if with a rental car, there are these beautiful towns nearby; - Alatri (walked there already, very beautiful town) - Castro dei Volsci (as above!) - Veroli (beautiful town) - Ferentino (never been there, but they say it's also very nice) If you come from Rome by train to Anagni, I would highly suggest to stop in the "Castelli Romani" area and visit the towns there, especially Castel Gandolfo / Frascati as they are accessible by train as well. They're quite stunning.

I was on my way to a conference in Naples, flying into Rome, spendning my first two nights in Agagni, then rolling south to Naples. Thus my question. After Naples, circling back to Rome inland, to stay in Sulmona-- and somewhere in Molise? But the conference was cancelled because of Covid, so that's all on hold..
@merrillb You're welcome Merril. Indeed, in that case, Sulmona also while going back to Rome is an excellent destination, very beautiful place. Seeing that you'll be in Anagni, I would suggest then to reach Fumone, which is not very far from there. I tried to search in internet though... but could not find any info on a bus lane from there (or from Frisonone!)... It's quite tough to move around for sure without a car in some places. But it's truly a tidy cosy town (I have a walk there). It's trult not far from Anagni and it's worth a visit. It's about 30 minutes by car, around 20kms in distance. But train stations are sparse... If going to Molise, Campobasso Is of course a good destination

Too bad though that so many piazzas are turned into parking lots. It just take the energy out of the area.
Completely agree Ken, I am one of those who would prefer to see only pedestrian ways...but I understand it's impossible... yet...!
