    The kwk42 L70 Panther gun was so good they got it to fit the m51, you never really hear that part it's Normally always it was from the AMX 13 but it was the L70 Panther kwk42 gun on the thing! Still a 7.5cm

      @flipvdfluitketel867 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It wasn't a copy of the kwk 42, the designers did get inspiration from it, and basically set out to make a cannon with the same performance

      I’ll still happily take the British 17 pounder gun over the panther gun. 163mm ap pen up to 500 meters. 256apcrmm. The panther 1 does not surpass either penetration values

    This tank was so versatile but it was the reason for Germany lost World War II

  • @ronemtae3468
    @ronemtae3468 ปีที่แล้ว

    It was better than the panzer one it was better than the pans or two it was equal with the panzer three and with a modest upgrade was equal with the panzer four

    Egypt tried mounting the AMX-13 system on Shermans and found out exactly what Israel discovered.

    Great video!! Question: I think read somewhere (at some distant time in the past) that the French cannon fitted to the M50 was basically a modified cannon out of the a German Panther. Is there any truth to that?

    • @PitFriend1
      @PitFriend1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This is true. The M50 got a modified version of the 75mm gun mounted on the French AMX-13 tank, which was itself a modified version of the 7.5cm gun from the Panther. France actually built and operated Panthers after the war, and in fact actually operated them longer than the Germans did though not in combat.

      I read the same thing!

      @@PitFriend1french gun SA50 was not a modification of KwK 42, they just built a new gun with same ballistic qualities. French shell was 75x597R mm and german was 75x640R mm.

      No it’s wrong and if you hear about this know that it’s misinformation
      It’s a french made french engineered gun

    During 1950 the Philippines sell there M4 sherman to Israel. Philippines have a lot of M4 sherman, M36 jackson, and hellcat, total tanks inventory of Philippines is 500+ i think. Because Philippines ha e alot of tanks during the end of the ww2 a war surplus by the americans

      The USA wasn’t going to ship them back home. Very little American equipment sent overseas in WW2 returned to the USA. There was a lot everything still stateside when the war ended.

    • @hewhoplugwalks
      @hewhoplugwalks 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The US decided not to ship back a lot of its equipment they had in the Philippines, as it would cost too much and be a headache to organize and coordinate. So, they ended up giving a large amount of it to the Philippines, as a means to set up a defensive line, so an invasion like Japan's wouldn't happen again.
      Of course, the Philippines has either scrapped, sold, or stored most of its WW2 era equipment. They've started to modernize their military in the last decade or so, especially with threats like Abu Sayyaf.

    The Sherman tank maybe obsolete in 1960s but the israelis considered the mobility and adaptability they change the original 76mm with 105mm french gun. The armor were also upgraded. The track is modified for better desert performance. The upgraded Sherman is perfect for ambush as its gun can depress up to -4° enable to concealing its silhouette.

    • @TanksEncyclopediaYT
      @TanksEncyclopediaYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The armor was in no way upgraded.
      Also, their original mobility wasn't that appreciated given that they changed engines twice, and they also changed the suspension and tracks.

      @@michaelsuarez6901 tank documentaries are not good information sources.
      Veteran accounts are also not good information sources on design aspects.
      You can see our source list in the description, they all say generally agree on the design, and all agree the armor was left as it was.
