This is a common Coyote hunting tactic, gain dogs trust and try to draw dog away so its pack can ambush. That coyote could run twice the top speed of that Doberman. So if you see a coyote playing grab ass with your dog it would be smart to call them off.
I wouldnt say they were playing (like some comments have) the coyote wasnt playing by the rules. Dog see's Coyote, starts to chase, Coyote runs away! Maybe comes back for a bit of taunting (getting the last say like cheeky annoying kids! but thats it) But i think he realised either the dog doesnt want to catch him or cant (i opt for the first) because there was a moment when Rosco with such ease gained speed nearly up to him but slowed down. So apologies they probably are playing in a way otherwise the coyote would just keep running. Judging by the dog and coyotes body language, it seemed they were just playing around. If the coyote was stressed it would have been out of the field in seconds. I've also videos of dogs actually hunting coyotes and the coyote is always puffed up with it's tail between it's legs. The dog also didn't seem to really be trying to catch the coyote, trying to keep up, but not harm it. Notice how the dogs head and tail remain relatively high throughout the video. If the dog were actively hunting the coyote its head and tail would be horizontal with the land. Now I'm not an expert, so take everything I'm saying with a grain of salt, but from what I'm seeing, those two were just playing around. Also here at 3:06 when the coyote skids to change direction, the coyote would have postured and bared its teeth at the oncoming dog and at the same time the dog would have tried to grab if it were trying to hunt it. But no, instead the two passed each other by and kept running.
