Advanced Techniques with iZotope Dialogue Match | Westlake proSESSIONS

Doug Mountain is an experienced sound mixer for Hollywood’s biggest studios, and the Dialogue Match plug-in by iZotope is one of his new favorite audio tools. In this Westlake proSESSIONS live seminar, Doug shares some of his advanced techniques to get the best results when using Dialogue Match to combine multiple dialogue sources.
In the video, Doug describes the advanced features of Dialogue Match reverb module. Settings like Level, Time and Predelay are all adjustable by dragging sliders, and you can adjust the High Pass / Low Pass curve and Density. What’s more, you can save all these settings so they can be easily recalled for later use.
He also uses Dialogue Match for music recording. For instance, if you record some strings in one studio but then need to do a pick-up session later in another studio, it’s unlikely the two recordings will sound identical. In these situations, you can use Dialogue Match to create a reference for the initial strings session and apply it to the pick-up session to make the two sessions match.
Doug concludes this video by advising sound mixers to limit stacking too many processes at once, “If you do more than three processes on an individual sound file, then you start to notice there are issues. You start to lose the clarity and all of a sudden it sounds like an iPhone recording.”
