      @@priyapepsi if only tgey actually made their own distros/OS. Most distros are just their parent bases with a different theming or desktop environment. In that case the dev manpower would be better off just supporting the parent distro 😅

    i don't know about fedora repos but in arch, xrandr comes with xorg-apps, even though it generally does, it doesn't necessarily comes with any desktop environment installation.
    i'm assuming that it's probably something similar in fedora.

      as a fedora user, I can confirm that I have had to manually install it in the past, so I guess it is both not installed by default and no bundled with xorg.

    matt im in trouble im slightly learning some stuff on I3 and i got polybar installed......ik u did a "beginner" video on polybar awhile back. do u think maybe u could do a video on how to set your config up for multiple WM's cause im checking out i3, qtile, and spectrwm and i was gonna use the bar that came with them but i saw that DT had multiple WM's layouts in 1 config and that's mostly the reason im using polybar. because i think that's a cool thing.

    • @TheLinuxCast
      @TheLinuxCast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Getting polybar to run on qtile is a pain in the bum. So I'd just use the built in bar for that, it is better than Polybar in some ways anyways. For spectrwm, the process should be the same as i3, only you should use the xwindows module instead of the i3 module.
      I'm not opposed to some WM specific vids in the future, but it won't be quick.

    • @drishalballaney6590
      @drishalballaney6590 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      for qtile it is highly suggested to use the qtile bar
      you can indeed hide the bar and install polybar with ewmh modules

    Well, it does offer Budgie as the main DE, which isn't offered on Fedora. It also adds all the RPM Fusion stuff for you out of the box. RPM Fusion is only added by one click in their Gnome DE, the other DEs are more complicated (terminal). I think they added their own icon pack as well, I haven't seen 'Fluent' used as an icon pack in Fedora. The Budgie version here also centres your icons on the panel, more like Windows 11. Manjaro, for example, adds them all to the left near the menu. This is a quite pretty Budgie DE :)

    • @KatyushaLauncher
      @KatyushaLauncher 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, on Fedora GNOME where it prompts you if you'd like to have third-party repositories, that does not enable RPM Fusion, that click only enables certain packages to be enabled such as Nvidia Drivers and Steam

    xrandr isn't part of xorg itself but of the utils, so it doesn't usually ship with the barebone display server installation.
    As for finding out whether you run X11 or Wayland, just do an "echo $WAYLAND_DISPLAY" and see if the variable exists. It should output something like "wayland-0" if the system is using Wayland as its main display server.
    Note that systems that use Wayland over X11 do exist. Those will usually set the variable to "wayland-99"

      @@TheLinuxCast That's not surprising. Most Desktop Environments call xrandr to set the resolution and probe display devices (not a fan, TBH. I know executing/piping in external applications is the mythical "Unix Way™" but it's a whole lot less clean than establishing decent APIs or even just calling a shared object)

He said altering is the best version of two fish that I have seen. The issue I had with it was that installing it as dual boot via manual partitioning along another debian distro was that it was not recognizing the other SSD and HDD data. It might have been an omission or lack of knowledge on my side regarding some terminal setup for this but.. Anaconda installer is just a pain in the ass anyway. I can't wait for their installer to come out and give it a try again.
    Installing Nvidia drivers by using their Shop GUI was not really working well - this might be the only con.
    Overall I was pleased to see RPM enabled out of the box and that it was really fast and snappy even in virtualbox. Using Pantheon is a huge bonus.

    Linux as a community has a ton of stuff that solves problems in the same exact way as a million other solutions. Even building the exact same thing from the same source files with only a name to difference them.
    I think that's because a large portion of the community is here only to build things and tinker. They're not really solving a problem. They're playing at their hobby with their friends.
    Which is fine. No problem. I hope they're having fun.
    I use Linux for work as my daily driver. Fedora Workstation since 2017 ish I think. I watch TH-cam videos on obscure distros and browse the internet looking at Linux apps and packages I have no intention of using ever Just for fun. There are some really clever people out there.
    I also hang out with my friends and shit on the dumb stuff and make fun of Windows. Not the people who use different tech. To each their own. Just the OS and apps. Not the users fault Microsoft is evil.

    I don't think there's much of a difference between actually ALL distributions, because sadly they still all share the same main problems: 1. Terrible drivers (power usage, heat, hibernation, stability..) 2. Horrible multimedia qualities (media players, ac3 passthrough and such..)
    When these issues finally have been resolved, then we can seriously start worrying about notes, like differing build chains, init daemons, display servers, desktops, userbase sizes and whatever ..

  • @cbengua

    Why people keeps creating distros and variations instead of create a standard distro to make easy to soft companies to code their's softwares to Linux?
    The discussion is always - at most - about visuals, wallpapers...
    Speaking by myself, I cant migrate to Linux just because Adobe still don't look to Linux. And why? They say its because of market share and so many different distros out there.
    Like me, a lot of people must not be able to migrate to Linux because of the one software they need still is not native to the system.
    Final users like me don't care about most of this things. We care about what we can do using the system. We most care about wich softwares we can use in it.
    Linux may never have a bigger market share being "so diverse".
    To me is more logical joying forces and become closer to the software creators.

      Because that's how Linux is, Linux is Free and Open Source Software meaning anyone can create their own Distro. With Linux you're free to choose whatever fits your needs, unlike the proprietary Windows where you don't have that choice, for example if you don't like Windows 10 then you'll have to choose from either the outdated Windows 7 or an even worse proprietary OS which is Windows 11.

      Well That's the thing, that part which you mentioned was Not a great user experience, was something that was part of the manuals, or iirc, a part of the installation process.
      I think this kind of thing happens in Debian too, I know it happens especially Raspberry Pi OS (which is a fork of Debian), where you're literally not told the default password is "root", even in the installation - and that's a fully released stable distro basically in production
      I'm not saying criticism is bad, but it's the fact that it's in development, you should not bring in criticism that sounds like you're comparing it to being a stable release.
      That's what I feel at least. A beta build can always be moved back to an Alpha build so unless it's a release candidate build, I'll not assume it's potentially the status the distro will release in.
      Try not to be so overly protective BTW, that last part is clearly not what I'm saying and makes you look insusceptible to criticism, to be honest
