    Your photos are amazing.
    I attended a wedding in the spring, and all attendees were issued this camera. No professional photographer. The pictures are amazing, not professional but so much better. More organic, more evocative, and more rooted in real life.
    Thank you, excellent video.

    Great video again Bon and well done on finishing Grad School as well. I haven't used a toy / single use camera for many years but will be doing so now you have planted the idea ! I have spent the past 6 months or so picking up cheap EOS film bodies from e-bay (5, 10, 30, 100) cleaning them and shooting with them which is great fun. Your EOS 3 video last year prompted me to dust down mine and put that to use too. Looking forwards to more from you as usual and any more cameos from your beautiful cat would be most welcome . . . . .

    "Disposable" cameras were called single use back in the day. Processors returned them to the manufacture and the were inspected, reloaded and resold. I used to unload mine at home because it saved shipping to the developer. I found that they could be reloaded and like you, found that I got much better results with 800 and 1000 asa film. They would put marks in the camera every time it was loaded. The most I found was 6 trips.

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish they still do that~ I’ve been tampering with some disposable cameras to try and reload them myself haha haven’t found an easy way to wind the film into the camera’s spool

    • @poppysworkbench6508
      @poppysworkbench6508 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bonsees Was easier back then, most used a special film cartridge that was driven by a saw tooth edge. It would grip advancing but slip with the film pulling out. Would tape the film I wanted to use to the saw tooth cartridge and transfer film to it in the dark . Load it in the camera and wind the spool from the outside. New cameras look like they would have to be pre wound on the spool and assembled in the dark because they don't have a way to turn the spool from the outside.

    Wow, did you edit the photos at all? The colors and resolution look really exceptional for such a camera. Also I’m really glad to have the perspective of someone who has reused it several times, durability was one of my main concerns. Thanks!

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I do edit my photos. For these I lowered the contrast and added vibrance, but it really helps that the lomography 800 film gives you good colours to begin with (I really like the blues in the lomography colour films). And yeah, it's pleasantly surprising that a cheap plastic camera is able to last that long haha!

    Whats up Bon, good to see you back in the Fray. dude you look all grown up what happened lol. man its been a long time since I used a disposable but these images came out great. im curious how long the flash will last and if youre able to change the battery also. I recently uploaded a video on how to develop color film at room temp that you may benefit from if you dev at home. whats your mission for next year.?

      I actually haven't changed the battery that it came with... so it's lasted me for two years, although I don't really use it that often haha. And yeah, the battery's replaceable.
      My mission for next year is to do well in my new job, start a print shop, and upload videos more regularly haha

    Your photos are good. The reason I use film camera is I must take photos that have interesting subjects. Composition must be good. I have only 36 photos. And strange it may sound, I like using those old film cameras. They have a character, personality, and more often that not, made like tanks. So much variety.

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t used the Harman kentmere so I don’t think I could recommend it
      It kinda looks like a Kodak M35 or Dubblefilm show camera though, so maybe it’s easier to load with new film compared to this simple use camera.

    Hi your videos are super helpful! I have a question about my camera. Recently I just reloaded mine with new film but after taking about 5 shots the camera won’t stop rewinding. What should I do and is there anyway I can save the photos I took and the rest of the film

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest to try winding the film again (see my reply on the other video) until you can't wind anymore (meaning, you've reached the end of the roll and the film is fully wound on the camera's spool).
      If I'm correct, the film wasn't fully wound into the camera when you reloaded it so you were only able to take the last 5 shots of the film. To try and save them after winding the film, take the last 5 or so shots with the lens covered.
      This is my best guess... you could also just take photos and maybe 5 of them will be double exposures which could still be cool.

    • @katrinaespiritu07
      @katrinaespiritu07 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bonsees hi so should I just try to reloading the camera again with the same film? I tried to winding it but I’m not sure if it’s working

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@katrinaespiritu07 Ah that sounds like the film already went back into its canister...
      Yeah, I would reload it with the same film.
      If you haven't opened it yet. I would try opening it in a very dark room and feeling if the film is still out or not. If the film is fully inside the canister, you'll need a "film leader retriever" to get it out...

  • @Gallifrey2

    Do you always need the flash on? No matter the outside lighting?

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No... I think it's a matter of preference. If it's sunny, you don't really need it. But I can see it being useful for backlit subjects or to get that high-contrast style.
      Keep in mind, the flash only illuminates about 1-2 meters, so usually for portraits or closer subjects.
      Personally, I tend to not use the flash when I'm outside since I usually take photos of street scenes that are further than 2 meters

  • @jefftan2785
    @jefftan2785 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi, I know I'm a lil late to the party, haha, but just wanna ask how is the durability of the flash? I had a Kodak m35 for less than a month and to my disappointment, the flash no longer works, hence I'm interested in getting a new film camera but I am concern about its durability, especially the flash.

      @@jefftan2785 yeah... although it’s a little hit or miss with these plastic cameras. Not sure how rigorous Lomography is with their quality checks, but I know Dubblefilm hand checks and tests their Show cameras one at a time. The lomo simple use is pretty good and I’m not afraid to recommend it, but if you still want something that’s similar to Kodak M35, I’d give Dubblefilm Show camera a try. Do you need to be careful with taking out the film because of sunlight ?

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ideally, yes. But the way this camera works is that as soon as you finish a roll, the film will already be rewound back in its canister, so it’ll be safe from light. Just make sure the film roll is all used up.

  • @sanitaaaaaa
    @sanitaaaaaa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    how do you develop and scan your photos

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to do home development but since I work full time now, I just send my film off to a lab for developing and scanning. For regular photos like the ones I take with lomo simple use, I get my local drugstore lab (London Drugs) to develop/scan them, for bigger projects I send them to Downtown Cameras in Toronto because they have better scanners.
      When developing at home, I use Unicolor C-41 kit for colour photos, and Ilford Ilfotec developer for black and white photos. I either scan with an Epson V600 or take a photo of the negative with my digital camera, then I use Negative Lab Pro and Lightroom to process the colours.
