Just did an engine swap on my 1994 XP. I've tuned all my small 2-stroke stuff, this evening out on the water I was scratching my head, excellent video, great explanations, will definitely re-watch again before running my ski next
@@hankkrendl8952 thank you!
Thanks for making this video! I have a 98 SPX w the 800 motor. Stock carb set up. Lows 1.5 turns out. highs 0. Out of the water idle was set 2200. I tried increasing the idle adjustment screw to 2400 thinking was too low once in the water. I didnt like the idle. Motor was bouncing a bit. After a riding session today she was hard to start again in the water. Had to be towed in by a friend. Out of the water she was bogging when trying to give her throttle. She finally cleaned out and rev'ed. I found your video and went home and turned the low speeds in about 1/8 turn IN. Same idle adjustment position. Man she idles super smooth now. Better then, how I had it for sure! Throttle response is crisp. I will need to do some more testing. I used to race Novice 785 and we didnt have an idle (per racing rules) so i never learned how to tune properly. Learning now. Thanks again.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! So helpful will be following your tips. Exactly in-line with what I’ve been reading
Thanks, guy!
Great video. So helpful ..not much out there on this.
Another great vid. Thanks for taking the time to share with the community.
Oh I also have a 97.5 Grey Ghost! Runs perfect 110 original hrs. And the raves are turned all the way in. A Pro Racer used to own it. Tuned perfectly. Havent touched anything on her since buying her in 2017.
Thanks! Good, simple breakdown

What reverse flap is that on the grey ghost
2000’ RX reverse bucket.
Watch the whole video and can't find the screws. Really raised over that quite quickly on the 951
@@diymasters1372 the low adjuster screws are facing up… try pausing the video and you will be able to see them clearly.
Just got a 96 spx. Our Skis are very familiar correct?
Your spx does not have the same engine as my GSX or GSXL. There are similar components yes, but different skis.
Hello, but as I understand Rave valves also can be the reason for hesitation. And your rave valves I see are full in, when manual says flush
The RAVE valve is Seadoo’s version of a power exhaust valve. Basically you can change the point at which the exhaust port opens fully. These valves have nothing to do with hesitations. They just provide more top end or more bottom end based on your riding preference. Hesitation is fuel related and is caused by a lean condition. The rave valves in this video are on a 951 rotax engine. The factory spec for this engine has the rave valves turned all of the way in. Rave valves should be flush for 787 engines. Hope this helps.
@@2-smoke thank you, I will try to turn them fully on 951. I just thinking that they opens to early and I am losing power at low speeds. From 5000 it jumps like a rocket
hey brother what do you think will cause this on a 2 stroke? sounds bad when you hit the gas? i did replace the wear ring and filled the full of 80-90 gear oil, ran ok for 45 min at lake, then suddenly lost power...started smoking, but fixed the smoking issue was burnt 3 way tee , but the engine sound still remains..

WOT for 30 sec? Lol I wish!
How to tune a 951? Dont, sell it immediately. The most unreliable engine ever made for a pwc.
Hi Cale. Any large bore/rod performance engine will not last as long as the alternative. These engines can be reliable if jetted, tuned, and taken care of the right way. Maintenance is key. It sounds like you had a bad experience. May I ask... did you purchase it used from someone else? Did you rebuild and refurbish the ski? Curious to hear how you came to that conclusion.
@2-smoke They're literally known as the most unreliable watercraft engine ever made. Not a hidden fact or anything. I owned several xps in my early days. Replacing motors every other summer at under 100hrs. Now I own 4 strokes and replace superchargers every other summer.
@@calephillips-pu4kq I’ll stand by my original comment. If things are properly maintained, properly installed, surfaces are true, and it is not operated carelessly, you would achieve well over 100 hours. If someone is habitually rebuilding them before 100 hours, I would investigate the underlying causes.
@@2-smoke You can stand by the eiffle tower if you want to. That doesn't change the fact they're 100hr engines max.
@@calephillips-pu4kq You are well off on your 100 hour claim. I don’t need to rebuke what a simple google search would yield. To each their own…
The background music sucks.
@@kleveshellhorn6436 what music would you like me to add in the videos? Please let me know.
@@2-smoke How about nothing, all the music does is distract from what we are wanting to learn. Just my opinion
