Met some South Africans in the early '80''s; they told me this song was banned there back then. That's how you know that a song is landing punches. Oh Gil we needed your music and your insights these past 4 years (30-Dec-2020.)

I bought some of his albums from 1972-80's. My Princeton days. Friends thought I was warped. None of them dance. Used to have to stop the car when it came on. Dangerous to drive while having a rhythm attack.

I first heard Gil Scott-Heron, way back in the Seventies. I was a youngster, but this, plus "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" made a very big impression on me!

Like all the musical greats.... there’s no replacement. I was surprised to hear him played on the radio in France and the rest of Europe. Not sure what that means..... but I’m a witness.

This is an amazing track about a time my parents lived & worked in - dad told me some things - was not at all happy about lack of humility out there through the mix70’s.I didn’t go - I’m White Scots, just like my father, & just couldn’t trust myself from speaking out & getting into serious trouble.
I made a point of seeing Gil - ‘80’s, Battersea Park - he played this politically stirring track - & the hairs on the back of my neck were on end! It’s the Truth!
RIP our blessed 20th Century poet of ALL THE People our Humanity,

Thanks. The original version. Only know the song from SNL. Gil was on the Richard Pryor episode that lead to the short lived Richard Pryor Show. Gil sang this song. Only thing I found on TH-cam Music were live performances where he says 1 2 3 You Know What To Do. Then What's the word? And crowd shouts Johannesburg. I thought in 99 he was inducted to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame instead he was in October of this year.
