    I’m obsessed with the 1800s as a whole, but the Victorian era specifically has a special place in my heart because the local reenactment scene focuses on 1860-1890 :)

    I have a ton of Victorian stuff in progress, mainly 1860s and 1850s, but I have 1830s, 1880s, 1870s and 1890s stuff in progress too. Its all mostly evening wear especially for the 1860s because I love feeling like a princess or a queen.

    Late Victorian, to me, is "Anne of Green Gables Period!" Since I'm a ridiculous fan of Montgomery's books and stories, I just think of the luscious descriptions she has of women's clothes of that era. If I did historical costuming, I'd probably end up looking for my favorite descriptions from the books, matching them with fashion plates and making them up. Some of Anne's clothes from Anne of the Island just demand to be made.

    It was wonderful seeing all those beautiful dresses! The most gorgeous I think is the raspberry/green stripe natural form and I would love to see a video on how you made it, with all the ruching and draping! You also have a knack for finding fitting/matching backgrounds for your photo's/reveals, either colour-wise or creating an atmosphere.

    I know this is two years old, but I wanted to say ME TOO! Sadly, I never had the guts to start, fearing what others may think, while wearing the Victorian 1800s style dresses in public. I am a seamstress and starting my corset, and the rest of the undergarments and then starting the actual dresses. I am so excited!! I love your videos.

      The thing that is odd to me is it seems like everything was more clear cut in the past fashion wise. If the sleeves were the wrong length or the skirt the wrong shape then you were visibly out of date.
      You can tell us what year a dress is from looking at sleeves, skirt & trim.
      Maybe I'm just out of touch, but I've lived through the 70's, 80's etc & would be lucky to guess a year of any outfit from any of it.

    I really enjoyed this video! The dresses are sooo pretty, it's hard to pick a fave! While I am in no way as good a seamstress as you are, you have inspired me to take two different patterns to make a bustle and apron combo for a long skirt I got off of Amazon. :D I need to make myself a bum pad as well as a "corset" for a con I'm going to over the summer. :D I love Victorian fashion as well as steampunk, so I hope to create something I like to call "neo-Victorian." Wish me luck! :D

    Happy Easter! Your skills at building a costume from the underpinnings out are phenomenal! I'm sure your purchases of gazillions of yards of fabric & ribbon have kept many shops afloat! I'm building my petticoat wardrobe. I made a corded petti and a ruffled one. I've worn them under a gown , but BOY! they are heavy! Do you notice the same thing? I'm thinking of building a hoop petticoat (and use lightweight rigelene) and maybe wear my ruffled one over it just to lighten things up. Haven't the guts yet to attempt building a lobster tail bustle or a proper Victorian corset ! Looking forward to seeing your latest effort completed and modeled for us!

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The key for petticoats is in your fabric choice. If you go with something like Kona cotton, it will get heavy pretty fast. Organdy on the other hand, is super lightweight, and pimatex cotton is a good midweight cotton with a lot of body.

    about the dress with the stubborn stain....I use 409 household cleaner on stains, and so far it has lifted the stains without harming the material.....but to be real I don't have fancy dancy material....cotton...etc...i just spray it on thick lightly scrub the area let it sit for abut 5 to 10 min then wash....I don't dry just hang out you may have to do this a couple of times...if the stain is lighter then keep on...my attitude is if you are not ever going to be able to wear the dress again due to the stain then there is really nothing to loose by using a household cleaner, and I believe that 409 doesn't have bleach in it...let me know if you try it and the results....
