    Actually thats the ENTIRE reason UF wanted us to come there. They didnt want a drill and concert selection. It was one of the(if NOT the MAIN) reason UF agreed to play FAMU's football team IF we bring the band and they put on a signature performance. Please make sure you understand the situtation before you go on a rant.

    It was no minstrel show. EVERYONE and EVERY school knows about our marching. They know what we do. They enjoy it becuase it's down well. Like others stated, the "100" has been to UF numerous tims and each tme they love it. I even signed a few autographs after that performance. I see where you are coming from with you comment. We did the same thing in high school when we played a "white school.' Here at FAMU however, the band never changes who they are or what they do because of...

    interesting POV....but,up until recently, wheneva we have a resticted time like we did in this game (7 mins), all we do is a dance routine...some like it, some dont...cant please everyone

    There is no other HBCU band better than FAMU. some do come close, but all fall short to the glory of THE 100! Its not only our rep, its because we just sound,play and march better than any other band. We cant help if we are that good!

    As a proud former member of the 100 I'd just like to say that the Gator Band did not get "owned" by the Hundred. The bands have two different styles which more attributable to the vast differences in their performances. In the world of HBCU FAUM excels and floats at the top, in the world of mainstream "white" or corps style bands UF holds it own too.

  • @FAMUGrad2003
    @FAMUGrad2003 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    who they are performing for. if they band is moving (parades & halftime shows) you will see some dancing. When we only have 7 mins, the band will normally just do a dance routine. The crowed loved it and you can even hear them singing along. So relax made2shine, it's all good, the peeps at UF know the "100" can play their butts off.

  • @FAMUGrad2003
    @FAMUGrad2003 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    That was done before the game in the gym. Played for our girls volleyball team. Damn near played everything in the book. lol. 7min hows, the band normally does a dance routine.

    Hey Guys, aren't we all just here for the love of music? Where's the comradery among musicians? They had that alot back in the day, It's such a shame we've lost it. Yes Corps style and traditional styles are way different, but the overall goal is still the same, to entertain, not only the audience, but ourselves aswell. FAMU 07! Hooah!

  • @jboggy27
    @jboggy27 13 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I kinda get both arguments here. HBCU's should show those that are not familiar with our craft much more that just dancing because it is much more than dancing. But as an HBCU band, there must be a high level of excitement in unfamiliar territory and you pretty much have to give the people what they want. It works for Famu so that is all that matters.

    sweetlips,give honor where it is due, famu can take out any band,corps style or not. p.s. it was famu whothe tone for other bands to follow in the spirit of excellence, musicianship,and showmanship and famu can do it all and go corps style and take out any band,even without dance routines and funky music ,so check them out in different settings and you will see that there is more to famu's band than meets the eye love you sweetlips and the gators but i will always love my rattlers Right on!

  • @wildcat77
    @wildcat77 18 ปีที่แล้ว

    First, it was an honor to be present that day and I know MLK was was smileing from ear to ear to see a stand of approx. 70,000 caucasions rave heavily over FMAU and their perfomance (It was 1 hands down), and Second: With all due respect, THAT IS THE REAL 100, what ever yall got going on, on the highest of seven hills today, is sad (Superbowl or not). :(

    • @angiebethel9148
      @angiebethel9148 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why you just can't be happy for the 100 University always invited the band every year to the Gator Growl. I know this is old but The 100 is still moving on hasn't slowed down. It's so sad that we talk. bad about each other from 1975 the 100 has been going to Gainesville so that was nothing new.

      Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
      Ll University not FMAM

    2 answer ur question we dont need 1. yea ur right if we did they wuld b real good. but when u hav a dance team it takes the attention away 4rm the band,and thats when people start comin 2 see the dance girls insted of the band...i.e. BCC

  • @famu32
    @famu32 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    hold on lionelforbes23!! obviously u dont know the FAMU music program! we are about music 1st nost dancing!! the only reson y we culdnt do 1 of our precision drills is becuz we had a 7min time limit for our show!! and as far as the playin as loud as u can comment, thats 1 thing that the 100 dont do we always sacrfice volume for clarity, tone and intonation!

    Of course they are, it's human nature to be amused (envious) by talent one will never possess, therefore it must be downplayed as if it's no big deal.

    You inappropiately used the word tolerate, what you mean is, CAN'T do that type of dancing on the field.

  • @eddiecarp

    I have seen every band in the SEC and would place LSU first, followed by Georgia, Auburn and Bama. There is a big drop-off to the next tier that includes USC, MSU, then UF and the rest. As far as HBC bands, I have been to Honda Battle of the Bands in Atl and would say FAMU is at the top with 4 or 5 others. SW DeKalb HS in Decatur, GA is damn tight for a bunch of teenagers. Best band I have seen is WVU, their pre-game show is untouchable. I also like Wisconsin.

    the only thing the LSU tiger band has is the lovely ladies...and they are loose (i know - they've partied at my place before in Gainesville)...
    aside from that the LSU band is garbage...as is any band in the SEC. We don't do music in the SEC - we do football.
    And the FAMU and any band from a historically black college blows away any average white band from every other school...and the Best Damn Band in the Land and the Stanford Band would be included in this.

  • @upt123
    @upt123 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    In response to the rhetoric concerning my original comment, let me reiterate. FAMU's band and Dr. Foster are legendary to say the least. However for a band and alumni that hold other HBCU's to the highest musical and discipline standards, some of your new found musical lackadaisicalness is a bit hypocritical. There is no reverse racism or contempt, but rather an honest opinion. Again the 100 is a sound musical aggregation but that was not shown here. To use your words it was a tad minstrel.

  • @upt123
    @upt123 16 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think FAMU is a solid band (they lack in drills / patterns-in-motion, leave that to Southern) but otherwise excellent musicanship and Dr. Foster is a true pioneer and legend. However this show failed to show the quality of sound / skill FAMU is known for. I've always thought their aim was to prove HBCU's can do more than dance and play more than Top 40 Hits. (where are the marches) This show had energy and crowd response, but in my humble opinion FAMU missed a golden opportunity.

      What opportunity did the 100 miss. Every year that 100 were invited to the gator bowl. So what in the hell are you talking about . It has never been a competition with these two schools. Every year they have the Gator Growl. .

    • @angiebethel9148
      @angiebethel9148 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bsuave9576 Why is it always a compitition with Southern. When you are known all over the world. Not just in your state it shows. The greatest band director that Southern ever had was Ronald Sarjeant RIP .And all the best of course his brother Lindsey Sarjeant. Who is the arranger for the 100. I don't know if it's jealousy or what. But yall are always on our page . The 100 is always great they don't ever worry about other bands. For every knock there is a boost. And the more that they criticize the better they are . Go back and listen to to
      Total Praise. It will get you in the right spirit.

  • @FAMUGrad2003
    @FAMUGrad2003 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1. Getting a dance team would be considered "being like everyone else." The Marching "100" got its name and fame from the band alone...even before the flag corp was added. 2. they wouldn't fit our style/format of band.

    The sounded like shit. Especially on the sidelines.
    I was on FDL that year, and the musicianship of FAMU was absolutely terrible. They're entertaining to watch, but sound quality suffered.
    If the drumline spent some more time cleaning up sound and less time on visuals, it would be a lot more entertaining for me as a drummer, but I can understand why it's entertaining for the average person.
    That death march shit they do is pretty raw though. Saw a video at the Florida Classic.
