I am proud of marching in the 100 from 1963 - 1966. It was the teaching and mentoring from Dr. Foster, Prof Bing, Prof James, Prof Ruffie London and Prof Bowie that I thank for my success in life today. I played Tenor Sax in the marching band and was Principal Bassoonist as a Freshman in the Symphonic Band. I was and will always be loyal to the Marching 100. Since I am Old School (1963 - 1966), only a few will remember the old points and drive and the early sound of the Marching 100.
This is Epic! Bands normally don't even sound good live most of the time, but this was really good. Their notes were clearer than the announcer with a microphone.. Proud of the FAMU's performance.
IM SO GLAD SOMEONE TOOK A VIDEO OF THIS. FOR ANYONE WHO ISNT IN BAND YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW AWESOME IT IS TO SEE YOUR FELLOW BAND/FAMILY MEMBERS (because even if you don't know each other, everybody in band is a family) DO SOMETHING AMAZING LIKE THIS IT MAKES YOU EXCITED FOR YOUR FUTURE AS A MUSICIAN. I'm sorry, Band is my life 😭❤️
+TH-cam Waffle Hey so glad to hear that you enjoyed the video, my pleasure. The music and performance were awesome, best of luck in your Band endeavors!
When FAMU plays UM it is the only game where one team's UM's) fans go almost as much to see the opposing team's band as their own team play. When FAMU comes down to play Miami the FAMU band is a real treat.
You prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
This is one of the reasons why I want to go to FAMU ( The Band and A Good Education).....I had so much fun at this game although they lost, It felt Like FAMU still won da game because of the BAND keep it up!!!
Famu is always classy. And usually where ever they go they usually incorporate the name of the place in there routines. And there are alot of FAMUans in South Florida that come to see the 100. Great video!
I was offered a scholarship at FAMU in band. After visiting and seeing what it really takes to achieve this level of profession it was better than me. I was in high school band with over 250 members and I was good. This no joke.
Thanks for posting this -- I live on the other side of the country now and it's nice to see the band again. The team got their butts kicked by Miami that night but the band represented us in fine style. Go Rattlers!
@dbaile2 You know a lot more about the moves a band does than I do but all I can tell you is that the performance was enjoyed by all in attendance - thanks so much for posting.
You get a real feel for FAMU's power when they start playing to the home side and it sounds loud enough... then they turn to the camera and it gets LOUD!
I agree - those guys and gals really do it right... If anyone that sees this is the school (or even the 100 themselves) - please say hello - great work!
Fantastic luck you had....we had always been upper deck folks and I enjoy the perspective up higher actually but we discontinued our 20 year in a row season tickets last season and glad we did because that team and University are so far out of relevance that it is terrible to watch live......thanks for writing!
Thanks so much I will look them up, as a UM guy all we ever get exposed to is the Band of the Hour which is not really into this sort of stuff so when a band comes along with some moves it is really something to see, much better than sneaking off for a halftime piss :) - will look them up and enjoy them I am sure just as I did the 100 here.
YALL ALREADY KNOW WHEN A DOWN SOUTH PLAN AND BAND COMES TOGETHER IT'S DEFINITELY IN IT TO WIN IT.. THE BIG M. JUST LOVE THESE BANDS AND MUSICAN ENTERTAINMENT..GOD IS GREAT..
@famupiccolo92 Great and thanks for posting, it was enjoyed by everyone in attendance. I will take a bad FAMU show over most of the other halftimes we get every other game of the year.
No actually they played in all directions and covered everyone. Usually when one side was turned one way the other side (like Tuba section was turned towards the home side. They covered it all very well. For me the part where they spell out FAMU and CANES brings goosebumps and shows that they do have a lot of class and respect for the home side. No one should criticize them in all honesty - but thx for the comment anyhow.
@dabandman Thanks for the comment and thanks for the compliment :) - I am so keyed up for this season I can't wait! I hope we have a good team this year out on that field! Either way though my boy and I will be out there rain or shine. Thanks again for the note - it means a lot.
Yeah they sounded great (better of course when pointing in my direction) :) - The Band of the Hour always has electronic aids (mics and amps) but I think they were all natural with no mics. I only wish I had zoomed in for the LEAN they did during Smooth Criminal - I didn't think they would do that :)
If you're pressed for time, you should make sure the performance is as exciting and entertaining as possible. Dancing is exactly what you should do in that situation. Those UM fans didnt come to see us drill. They came to be entertained. The band only gets 7 mins when they play the White Schools. Drilling doesn't keep the butts in the seats during half time... Trust me, concessions took a hit that day. I was there and nobody left their seats...
@notenoughcereal I will definitely check out FSU and UF. But I think maybe FAMU and BCC alternate between which band is the best in Florida. I've recently seen a performance from the Bethune Cookman marching band in Va and I think that they are the best in Florida this year. If you get a chance, check them out. They are so freaking clean!!!
Have they reduced the program these days? I realize the COVID era has impacted but beyond that are they not as magnificent these days as they were 12 years ago? Sad, they were beyond fantastic to watch.
Yeah that was terrible. Never understood the hazing thing personally and I hope that this doesn't go on today for such talented kids at just the start of their lives.
@NPC84 Oh, we will be there for sure! :) - waiting on my season tix any day now.... Have a new and exciting show for us? Will be up in 444 watching....good luck and all of Miami looks forward to the 100!
@Inuyana890 Thanks :) - yeah I have so many OLD home movies that are unwatchable because of the camera movement so when I bought an HD camera I promised myself that I would try to use it in a better way. Enjoy!
@THEREEKSTER ....sorry but that is wrong information....When Dr. William P Foster started the band ("100") in 1946, the had 98 band members 1 drummajor and 1 majorette..and that= THE INCOMPARABLE MARCHING "100"....and in 2008 the weren't 500+, the were more like a good 425-440.....fall 2k9 HUBBA "100"
Mmm well a label I suppose. Miami's player's are not "Hurricanes" (especially here in 2022), I don't know the history of FAMU's band but their work is fantastic and a true pleasure to watch.
Hey I noticed that they didn't drill that hard as well, maybe it has something to do with a time restriction. PWI's have a set time to get on and off the field. They probably changed up some thing for that. That happened to us one year when Alcorn played USM. I hope that's the reason
For all the ignorant comments being made about bands now compared to back in the 80's and 90's and such: You can't compare bands today to bands back then because musical preference and entertainment preference has changed tremendously over the years. Musical preference is even changing now as I type. Because most college bands are sources of entertainment they have to keep up with what the people like. People aren't listening to Patti Labelle, Diana Ross, and The Temptations anymore.
@famupiccolo92 Great and thanks for commenting, As a Miami guy I was just happy with the entertainment and actually seeing something worth watching at halftime. If we want to compare the worst performance to the Band of the Hour's best.....FAMU would still come out on top :)
famu famu famgotdamu! alright alright alright.... for those haters you have to go see them in person. you cant just watch a video of them on you desktop/laptop & get the same experience.
Famu has one of the best sounding bands around but I can't watch them perform. It's like watching paint dry. However to each his own if you like it I'm happy for you. My neice is gonna kill me she went to famu lol.

@wholderby This season will be an interesting one for the Hurricanes as they have a new head coach and they have a pretty interesting schedule this year. The Ohio State game is a huge barometer, but I did not like how they finished the season against Notre Lame (yeah that's right)...With a road opener against Maryland on Labor Day and an off week before OSU, they have some time to see what their strengths are... I will see them when they play USF in December. Hopefully that will be good.
@kdk1970 Sony HDR-SR11 - I love it....I filmed last night as well and will be uploading it shortly - the only issue last night was the people walking up and down the aisle - last night did not seem as good as last years performance...they didn't "funk out" as much or something...and it seemed like they played towards the away side most of the time....I will watch my own video again to verify this....was hard to hear them this year (not so last year when I filmed this)....
Whoa! I keep watching this over and over.
Me too. And FAMU has a great announcer: Joe Bullard

Ain’t nothing like the awesome music, rhythm, soul, spirit and energy of a Black marching band!!!
This is Epic!
Bands normally don't even sound good live most of the time, but this was really good.
Their notes were clearer than the announcer with a microphone..
Proud of the FAMU's performance.
hbcu’s always sound beautiful live !

This is one of the reasons why I want to go to FAMU ( The Band and A Good Education).....I had so much fun at this game although they lost, It felt Like FAMU still won da game because of the BAND keep it up!!!
Famu is by far one of the best marching bands in the nation
Famu is always classy. And usually where ever they go they usually incorporate the name of the place in there routines. And there are alot of FAMUans in South Florida that come to see the 100. Great video!
I was offered a scholarship at FAMU in band. After visiting and seeing what it really takes to achieve this level of profession it was better than me. I was in high school band with over 250 members and I was good. This no joke.
i love this band soooo much...it's like 500+ of them and their always together
This was most impressive I ever seen in all bands
Thanks for posting this -- I live on the other side of the country now and it's nice to see the band again. The team got their butts kicked by Miami that night but the band represented us in fine style. Go Rattlers!
Very Nice!!!! I love the way they held their position before they sprung the FAMU/CANES formation on them!!
This is one of the best films of the Marching 100 I have ever seen in terms of overall quality!!!! WOW!!! Thanks for posting!!!!
I HAVE ALWAYS LIKE THE WORLD FAMOUS MARCHING BAND OF FLORIDA A& M OVER THE YEARS EVER SINCE I WAS A KID GROWNING UP RATTLER IN MY LIFE FOREVER.
i really enjoyed that! i liked the canes/famu formation at the end. that was cute :)
Man y’all was deep that night . I’m a big band fan I grew up listening to the Sonic Boom of the South aka Jackson State University Tigers .
Simply the Best!
@dbaile2 You know a lot more about the moves a band does than I do but all I can tell you is that the performance was enjoyed by all in attendance - thanks so much for posting.
This is an awesome video...I hear they'll be back in the fall of 2013.
You get a real feel for FAMU's power when they start playing to the home side and it sounds loud enough... then they turn to the camera and it gets LOUD!
Heart, Commitment and Dedication
NOW THATS 💚FAMI &CANES
I agree - those guys and gals really do it right... If anyone that sees this is the school (or even the 100 themselves) - please say hello - great work!
Who and what is TBDBITL? FAMU's band has been ICONIC for years.
thanx for putting this up!!
BCU,But I love all HBCU's! BBlessings ❤
Nice video coverage...and I like how you panned to "Da U" and the end...
Fantastic luck you had....we had always been upper deck folks and I enjoy the perspective up higher actually but we discontinued our 20 year in a row season tickets last season and glad we did because that team and University are so far out of relevance that it is terrible to watch live......thanks for writing!
thanks for the video... seems ;like yall had a lot of fun
This the rattler's that everyone should follow bring back band memories
Thanks so much I will look them up, as a UM guy all we ever get exposed to is the Band of the Hour which is not really into this sort of stuff so when a band comes along with some moves it is really something to see, much better than sneaking off for a halftime piss :) - will look them up and enjoy them I am sure just as I did the 100 here.

isn't famu supposed to be 560+ strong this year?
@famupiccolo92 Great and thanks for posting, it was enjoyed by everyone in attendance. I will take a bad FAMU show over most of the other halftimes we get every other game of the year.
That was off the chain, they blessed the Canes wit that one.
No actually they played in all directions and covered everyone. Usually when one side was turned one way the other side (like Tuba section was turned towards the home side. Them folk there cold mane for real

that is great quality camera
this band is awsome does anyone kno their schedule so i can see them perform live
I miss the group that covered an entire football field. That's the only HBCU do it lol. It was amazing
I hope FAMU is bringing the band this weekend vs Miami!
Me too! :)
When I was in high school in the late 90s, this was the band I feared the most. Plus, I thought this band was in the U , lol.
We will GLADLY take them if FAMU gets tired of them :)
This video quality is great! My band is A-Mazing...
I didn't notice that you ended with the shot of the U at the end...that was a nice touch...likes that...
11/26/09 - Be there or...you know... :-)
wow!!!!!!!!! thats all i can say is WOW!!!
Its all about FAMU. I went to that game.

Making them FAMU fans think about the good old days. 😭
Have they reduced the program these days? I realize the COVID era has impacted but beyond that are they not as magnificent these days as they were 12 years ago? Sad, they were beyond fantastic to watch.
@@wholderby They're decent nowadays, but no where near as good as they were back then. They're certainly not as large as they were either.
Before the Robert Champion fiasco
Yeah that was terrible. Never understood the hazing thing personally and I hope that this doesn't go on today for such talented kids at just the start of their lives.
great job on this vid, wholderby!
what cam did you use?
On Nov 19, 2011, Robert Champion, A FAMU Drum Major was beaten to death by a busload of not only band members but alumni as well.
Yes that is true. Very sad case
@NPC84 Oh, we will be there for sure! :) - waiting on my season tix any day now.... Have a new and exciting show for us? Will be up in 444 watching....good luck and all of Miami looks forward to the 100!
Did Miami band give a show or just classical division 1 type music ?
Dey gone be at da honda battle of the bands on january.30,2010
@Inuyana890 Thanks :) - yeah I have so many OLD home movies that are unwatchable because of the camera movement so when I bought an HD camera I promised myself that I would try to use it in a better way. Enjoy!
When they first started, they started off with 100 members band.
Are there any clips from Miami's band.
My grandparents work at famu and I get a lot of access
damn they're good, this band kicks Ohio State's ass
@THEREEKSTER ....sorry but that is wrong information....When Dr. William P Foster started the band ("100") in 1946, the had 98 band members 1 drummajor and 1 majorette..and that= THE INCOMPARABLE MARCHING "100"....and in 2008 the weren't 500+, the were more like a good 425-440.....fall 2k9 HUBBA "100"

you just have to give them there due theywere good i always went to homecoming going this year miss last year no homecoming.
@notenoughcereal help me out here pal, does UM call their band the Band of the Hour? Really?
Hey I noticed that they didn't drill that hard as well, maybe it has something to do with a time restriction. PWI's have a set time to get on and off the field. They probably changed up some thing for that. That happened to us one year when Alcorn played USM. I hope that's the reason
MississippiGirl9907 nope Famu typically scatter drills if they drill at all lol
MississippiGirl9907 @
Da Marching 100 baby. No other band can compare. Southern has nothing on FAMU baby.
That was just PreGame! Wow! If your the other band, how do you go on after "that"! Damn!
Nah it was half time - it was awesome!
I didn't delete any response from here...not sure what happened if you posted it here....
and thank you for that explanation..
It is a Sony HD Camera with the 30gb HDD....I forget the model....great cam though....

Is that the hurricans band attempting to get on the field after that? lol

@pgdrummer give the hbcu bands a chance they're exciting. Corps style marching sends me to the concession.
Indeed and I think they will change - I am sure hoping so for the sake of those poor kids. Thanks so much for commenting.
