Wow I didn't even think about this when I got my second hand red sea 170. Great advice for my next tank. The sump section looks exactly the same as mine. I actually changed my ATO tank into a refugium that sits inside the sump with no drilling or plumping. Works like a charm
Yeah, to be fair the seals all worked fine when I test filled it and cleaned the tank but a few local reefers suggested replacing them, definately worth it for less than £10/$10. Yeah the sumps near enough identical although the XL200 might be a couple of cm deeper front the back? I've seen that refugium mod on the forums, looks cool 👌 I'm considering that or maybe a similar idea with a hang on refugium in the side of the sump and keep the ATO? Thanks for watching!
@@PracticalReefer hang on the back is an idea..I did think of that at one point and then thought, that would be extra pressure pulling the glass, plus I went with reusing what was there One thing to realise you will end up filling in that ATO quite regularly. Right now I use a 25L water jug and it lasts 2 weeks, so I don't need to worry about it..I'm sure using the red sea ATO you would end up filling it up every 3-4 days
@@rudra7615 yeah, I know they are made to hang on just fine but was thinking of proping the hang on side refugium on a few blocks of timber beside the sump just to help me sleep, as it will just be dead space under it except from a few wires maybe. Yeah hoping I can stick with the standard ATO by using a lid to reduce evaporation but it still might not be enough the other option is to increase the size/height of the reservoir too? As I really do like the simplicity of a gravity fed ATO 👌
Congratulations and thank very much. 👍🏼🐟🐠
Thank you!
Yeah dude thanks. I mean pretty straightforward but nice to have a check just in case
Thanks! Yeah I had to work it out myself a little as there more o-rings than you need due to the pack covering larger models too
I have the same tank and was wondering if you had issues with micro bubbles coming from the return pipe into the main display.i do.

@@PracticalReefer blocks of timber makes sense so no pressure on the glass!
