    Thank you for explaining everything so concisely! I was trying to ask someone at a fabric store what I can use for finishing raw edges of fabric (I said trim or something) and she looked at me like she had no idea what I was talking about. She finally just guided me to the ribbon spools, but I think there was a bias tape section. Now I know what to ask for, so thank you!

    What a brilliant teacher! I subscribed straight away because you are so easy to follow!! :) I have one question: how do you use this binding on a blanket with a top and a bottom layer. Do you sew them together first and then sew the binding as in the video or is there another technique? I am making a blanket with a fabric on top and a fleece underneath - to make it thicker and warmer. Thanks

    Thanks for another great tutorial. That Spiegel sewing machine is beautiful, but it sure does sew a sloppy bobbin thread. Could that be caused by improper tension, or is that just how it is?

    • @ProfessorPincushion

      asdona mur I think it’s the machine. Some machines (usually those that do zigzag too) just have an awful straight stitch. You can’t beat a vintage straight stitch only machine. Having said that, the straight stitch shown is really poor.

    This is another late comment so sorry. I’m a seasoned “sewist” and was looking for a nice way to finish corners on a craft project I’m doing. My old way wasn’t looking very nice but this was a great answer to my search. I’d also like to add something I learned a year or so ago. For those of us that make our own bias tape/binding, if your project has rounded or curvy edges, you will need a true bias tape...one that is cut on the bias and has stretch to it. But if your edges are straight, such as a potholder or blanket, you can get by with a binding that’s cut on the width of your fabric or straight grain. It will have no or very little stretch. This has helped me immensely as I spend a lot of time making straps for masks and bindings for projects and I used to think ALL bindings had to be cut on the bias. Not so anymore and a lot less time and fabric👍🏻

    • @MichaelRayWegner
      @MichaelRayWegner 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      For non-textile materials like leather, you don't need to finish off the edges because they won't fray, but usually a good lining in a matching color gives a professional look.

And now finally I will have neat hems on the underside of my skirts and dresses. thank you.
