Honestly, 200 millions for Argyle?!? It looks like an 80-million movie to me, maybe not even that...
Indeed.. 60-80 million budget
I'm pretty sure 1/2 of that budget was having the "All star cast".
60 to 80 is being really generous. Drop the cast down to B list up and comings, keep the scale of the stunts and let it speak for itself so the mystery and twist pop more, saving on marketing too. It’s an easy 50m tops but Hollywood hubris be like 💸
My guess is that Apple bought the film for $200m. I don’t think $200m is the budget.
Exactly. How does a movie like “The Creator “ on an 80 million dollar budget look like it cost 200 million. But this??? This is ridiculous.
Jurassic made billions because it's Jurassic. Nothing to do with the 2nd Gen actors.
Exactly. Who went to JW because Oppie's daughter was in it?
@@dfwproductions7832"Oppie" 🧍🏾♂️💀
No more movie star, only franchises!
Mostly agree but people do like Chris Pratt and see his various shows/movies
Also pratt although idk of this made him a star or he came in a star
I knew Wonka was successful, but I didn't know it was THAT successful. I'm so happy! 🎉
Larry attacking Elmo was hysterical. Lool
I thought the Argylle theatrical trailer made if pretty clear Lipa & Cavill were fictional characters within the movie. I didn't see the movie btw.
True but the poster is definitely misleading.
It was fun. It was an action Valentine's card by Hallmark and all the ridiculousness that implies.
Lol same as soon I saw the trailer I decided to skip it.
A VALENTINES DAY RELEASE and being more explicit an about cavil being the idealised argyle would have helped. but hay, im sure its all fine. $18m is fine...
It was clear they were fictional, but I still assumed they (or at least Cavill) would have a fair amount of screentime. I was told if that was my expectation I would be disappointed, so I didn't go see it.
I wish we could experiment with managing people’s behavior at the movie theater because that’s what’s keeping me away from them, I’ve PAINFULLY had to wait MONTHS to see films because my experiences with others are so awful
@@kevindunham4167 At Cinemark the no talking promo spots are practically non-existent. They should be running very clear promos before and after the trailers. You'd think people know how to behave in movie theater but they don't.
Antisocial much
@@greygorygaming not antisocial to not want to deal with people being rude bastards
Can you be more specific with these "behaviors" and "experiences" that keep you from the movie theaters ?
I go to AMC Theaters, and have not had any bad experiences.
One of the good things about assigned seating is you can see how full the theater is before going. These past few weeks, I've gone to shows after work where I was alone in the theater _(Origin),_ there were only a few of us _(Argylle)_ and one being packed in the upper decks _(Fighter)._ Some early matinees don't have anybody either.
Am I the only one to see parallels between: Romancing the stone => Nim's island (with Jodie Foster) => Lost City (with Sandra Bullock)=> Argylle now.
How many angles can you give something to make it look fresh and original ?
Last week people were comparing it to _Kingsman,_ but the trailer made me think of _The Lost City._
Don’t forget the Long Kiss Goodnight.
The Lost City is the type of movie id put on in an airplane and forget about 5 minutes after it ended...if Argylle is anything like that ill pass
besides the heroine being a writer and a reluctant adventurer, the movies are wildly different.
I love Romancing the Stone, it is amzinng, one of the few Raiders clones that could stand on it's own feet.
I just wanted to tip my cap to Godzilla Minus One after ending it’s phenomenal run a couple of days ago;
It was only expected to run for only one week, but it ended up playing for over 60 days, earned over $100 million worldwide, got nominated for an Oscar(!) & domestically speaking is now the third highest grossing non-English language film of all time. My one wish out of this is that this encourages more audiences to embrace non-English titles in the theatrical space
I saw my first Indian movie, _Fighter_ this past week and enjoyed it. It was really like an Indian version of _Top Gun._ It had subtitles and a lot of what one Indian ex-pat called, "Ind-glish" where they speak two languages in one sentence. I figured if Americans could like _Godzilla Minus One_ in Japanese with subtitles, I could finally give an Indian movie a chance.
I went to see argyle on Saturday night in Adobe screen. They were probably about 10 people in there total. I was really surprised.
I don't give a damn what anyone says, Larry David beating up Elmo was funny as hell and he did have it coming, LOL.
I watched the Chosen on Thursday - Packed theatre full of fans with applause and people sticking around to discuss it at end! Very much the "party" as Grace puts it.
I think it really is tapping into an unused market space as there are a number of Christian friends who aren't really into entertainment, but are really big fans of the Chosen!
Grace hates those types of films and won’t give it fair coverage .
I loved the Chosen. It was excellent this weekend.
Apple essentially sets almost $1 billion on fire with 3 $200+ million movies in 3 months and everyone is like “it’s fine, who cares, they’re Apple.” It’s not my money so I don’t really care either and it’s nice that they spend that much on original movies, but where’s the Netflix treatment from Hollywood? Thanks, Grace. You always point out the truth!
That’s because Apple has $600B in cash
Because for Apple, film is a side business. Unlike any other studio they can afford to lose that amount of money without setting the entire company on fire.
Yeah but don’t they like, want some people to actually see their hugely expensive movies?
Apple is such a silly name for a trillion dollars company.
Banana would sound much better.
Apple main business is never about movies so?
Honestly, I don’t know what trailers you saw in the U.S., but the ones we had in Australia, from the get-go showed VERY clearly that Cavill and Dua Lipa were the minor part of Argyle
It's notable that the total box office for the last week of January was less than half what it was for the last week of January 2018. People aren't going, period.
maybe actually hire real script writers for good plots that people actually wanna see?
@@Wolfsbane909 Might help the odd film but in general the numbers are down massively across the board for all films and that is not the issue.
So true! I have to physically drag my friends to the theater. They would just rather wait and watch it at home.
From the trailers I saw, I don't see how anyone could believe that Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa are the leads when it was quite clear that Howard and Rockwell are. Cavill is in it for 15 mins and Dua Lipa is in even less than that. Neither of them are BO draws, Cavill has never been, and I think most Dua Lipa fans are checking for her new album ehich is rumored to drop sometime this year.
I think Cavil And Lipa are bigger draws than Rockwell and Howard though....
I expected to see more of Dua Lipa, thinking she was the big bad of the movie, so was shocked when she was gone so early. They may as well have killed her by pulling her off the motorcycle at speed. Still not sure why she fled though, if that was her place?
They’re front and center on the movie poster.
Am just going to watch the movie for Dua Lipa
Not everyone saw the trailer, the poster makes them look like leads. I thought Henry was.
I love how you talk about Elmo like he’s a person. lol
because he is one 🤭
'Anyone But You' in it's 7th week of release had a higher per theatre average than 'Mean Girls 2024' in it's 4th week of release. That's insane (and I say that as someone who loves ABY.)
It's not Sam Rockwell & BDH's fault. It's the marketing dept for selling one thing, and supplying another
Always nice to see that Aquaman remains the biggest success of the now defunct DCEU 🤩
Those Netflix stats are insane.
Whenever I see 200+ million budget, the first thought that comes to mind is money laundering.
My thought was creative accounting, where a successful movie doesn't make any money on the books because someone signed a deal saying they would get a percentage of "net profit." So the studio keeps billing "lunches" to the movie years after it's made to prevent paying out.
Netflix has a clever AI-y interface to get you interested in watching a show. The thumbnail of shows constantly changes making you feel like it's new and catching your attention. Even smarter, they keep track of your interests and shows you thumbnails of a specific scene in the show that matches your interest.
The way people see trailers now they don’t even sit through them on IG. I thought it was a movie with Dua Lipa and Henry Cavill because I’d saw them dancing 50 times and when I saw the rest of the trailer I though it looked like a less adult version of Romancing the Stone.
Vaughn throwing mad shade for someone who served unseasoned grilled chicken...
That's going hard on unseasoned grilled chicken..
Daaaaamn 😂😂
I love Sam Rockwell and Bryce is the best thing about the Jurassic World franchise imho. I couldn’t care less for Cavill and Dua Lipa so I’m happy to go see a “ridiculous” yet fun take on the spy genre, that gets a fresh tomato from Grace, in the cinema.
Horrible haircut, great acting though.
As much as I loved "Argylle" and its super COOL twists and turns, I didn't think Sam and Bryce had strong chemistry. Took me out of it a little. I thought Henry and John had better chemistry 😂
Their chemistry is all in her head!
Grace talking about Elmo as a real person is freaking hilarious, ( I know what she means) but out of context is just crazy hilarious
I’m a little sad; Argylle is no masterpiece but it’s plain dumb fun and Rockwell and Howard as the leads was refreshing as they’re unconventional for this sort of movie but I guess the facts prove as to why
They shouldn't have used Henry to market the movie. Should have REALLY sold it as a BDH & SR led movie.
Well, I think maybe it’s part of the plot that their names don’t get mentioned they’re not supposed to be shown that they’re the leads to the movie. The other people are supposed to be so it’s a spoiler saying that there’s a leads in the movie
Love watching The Chosen in theaters ❤
Speaking of Iron Claw I was so bored this weekend that I went to see Iron Claw and it was really great. It should have done better. Next weekend for me is Frankenstein. If it's no good then I'll go see the Chosen. Gr8 Movie Math, my Gracie!🎥🍿🌭😘🌺
Went to a sold out theater for Argylle. The audience was totally into it, as were me and my wife. Loved the movie!!
Some showings seemed to have good attendance. I was into _Argylle_ too, when I saw it. People said _Beekeeper_ also got silly or unrealistic, but that's what you have to expect from action movies. Someone had a video counting how many times a main character in an action movie would have died in their film if it had been realistic. After all those depressing "awards-contender" movies in December, I wanted fun action from these two, _Fighter_ and _Aquaman._ If you don't want anything more than that, then those provided.
Was this written by AI??
@@jonnyfendi2003 sure. I am a robot. Robots are cool.
Did Grace just say "Let Apple Cook" haha love it!
It is not really a bait-N-switch! It was pretty obvious that those two were the fictional characters in the movie.
Percy Jackson show moves along at the pace of glacier. It is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow.
Honestly I don’t understand what Grace sees in Cavill. I don’t see the need of emphasis. The man’s acting skills are the male version of Gadot’s.
Cavill is not a draw. From Man fron UNCLE to this if it's not a massive franchise already ala Superman, he adds no box office value.
Even Taylor Swift couldn't save Cats so there are no movie stars.
He's got that other movie coming up that Grace mentioned: _The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare_ which trailer I saw in the theater. So we'll see if anyone shows up to that.
@orlock20 cats was failure from the get go
Considering how Witcher fans are actually done with the show after he is done so he is a audience draw.
@@randynguyen9778 I think the brand of Witcher brought people in and the shows drop in quality caused the exodus. Besides, giving him credit for Witcher is like giving him credit for Superman.
Lisa Frankenstein is giving Renfield vibes. Looks okay but I agree it doesn't look like it's worth paying to see in theaters.
There are a ton of Romantic Comedies in the foreign markets. They’ve been in a slump in America in recent years
Not a lot of guys went to see _Mean Girls,_ and even fewer went to see _Anyone but You_ except for those with dates.
'It did trend on Twitter'. Twitter doesn't represent the big public.
We should say, "It trended with my X."
Argyle looked like a flop from a mile away🤣
I watched some of those Max movies on Netflix recently. And honestly it’s just because it feels “new.” Most people have probably seen them before but it’s just like “oh that’s on Netflix now? Let’s watch.” Instead of scrolling for hours.
Is it really Bryce and Sam’s fault though? Considering most ads are featuring Henry and Dua? I’m not even sure the general public know unless they talk to their friends and family, or are super fans of movie news like your channel and etc.
Funny enough my go to service to watch a movie is Max. Because they have the best library of classics due to TCM. Netflix is usually my last stop.
How was the Argylle campaign misleading? From the very early trailers they told you Cavill was playing a book character and that the real spy was someone else
I do remember the line in the trailer, "Let me introduce you to the _real_ Agent Argylle." But I can't see word of mouth from people seeing it Thursday and Friday killing it. Something else must have happened to keep people at home.
Tokyo vice was good! I’m glad there’s a 2nd season coming out.
I don't think Henry Cavill has enough star power.
Henry tends to play Henry.
Somehow _Man of Steel_ and _Mission Impossible: Fallout_ wasn't enough to make him a star. I think the mustache issue was pretty funny. And rumors of him being difficult on set, didn't help his appeal, nor did skipping the ending of _Shazam!_
@@sandal_thong8631 Are you saying that him being difficult on set is why James Gunn hired David for Superman in DC Studios or some other issues
@@michaelkaggwa4915 I think rumors of Henry Cavill being difficult on set hurt his career and reputation.
I think James Gunn fits the definition of corruption: using his position to enrich himself, his wife and his friends by giving them and himself jobs. He doesn't want to reboot properties that provides this group with residuals, while everyone else is fired, including Cavill. And he hired himself to write _Superman: Legacy._
Next week is also Mardi Gros weekend. 🎉🥳
Grace, hats off to you as one of the few major online cinema pundits that said you saw “Anyone but You”, enjoying it for what it is: a cute, sassy, and edgy romcom! ❤ And, yes, this has helped Glen Powell’s trajectory. As well as Sydney Sweeney’s!!!
Well the Swifties were right that Taylor announced a new album, just not the Reputation rerelease 😅
Max and others are not avaible in most countries and netflix is the only one i never churn cause they gave my country a chance first the rest waited for years
I like so far this year box office, very interesting. I cant wait for Madame Web and I am not joking, I think is going to become a guilty pleasure of many haha.
If it's true there's a cameo of a Spider-Man then maybe people (i.e. men) will want to see it. It's been awhile since there's been a woman-led superhero show that women want to see. Maybe _Buffy the Vampire Slayer?_ Do women want to see this? Also a long time since there's one men want to see. Do men want to see this?
But that ENDING thooo!!! How can ppl who are interested in Cavill not be excited after that ending 😂!!!
The thing is… it’s a limited amount of people who have an interest in Henry. I still can’t wait for Highlander
Tell me who is interested in Cavill. People talk him up on Twitter but don’t show up on opening weekend.
@@hothotheat3000 Me, I’m interested in Henry and I saw Argylle twice this weekend, going with 3 people on Saturday and 4 on Sunday, all of them going for the most part to see Cavill.
Nobody cares 😂
@@hothotheat3000 - Twitter is not real life and Hollywood needs to remember that. Henry Cavill has never resonated with the general audience, and his publicist needs to just stop trying to make him happen. The dude is in his forties, and it is getting pathetic already. We get it Henry Cavill is handsome, but audiences want more than just a pretty face.
"and whoever the heck that lady is" 😂 - love when Grace is off the cuff
Don't touch me, Elmo.
You keep your hands to yourself.
😂😂😂
We learned that on Sesame Street.
That's right! Also remind Ryan Reynolds that "No means No," especially on National Women's Day; people might not have walked out of _Deadpool_ if he'd remembered that.
I watched the "attack" just now and don't get the joke. But one of the funniest _Murphy Brown_ episodes was when she appeared on a show like _Sesame Street_ to get higher ratings and was provoked into attacking a puppet. They turned it into a song: "Sometimes People Are Mean."
Disney should've licensed Percy Jackson to Netflix instead.
Although I'm trying to keep an open mind, I agree Netflix would have done Percy Jackson better, especially the runtime. I don't understand why Disney is so keen on keeping the runtime at 30 mins.
The writers managed to make it work, but it would've been better if they were given 1 hour per episode.
@@hikari9262 Yeah, it would've pulled more numbers on Netflix too. When it comes to shows like Percy Jackson, Netflix's viewer base will eat it up.
The Vision Pro has sold over 200k units, massively over performing for Apple. It’ll be interesting to see how this changes things in the future.
Beyond the Trailer is my first stop when I'm looking for something to watch. I'm always keen on your reviews and I love that I can feel safe about avoiding spoilers on this channel.
Grace, you really should watch The Chosen. I think you would like it. It's incredibly well-done and like no other "religious series" that has ever been created. It's very special and not cheesy at all.
I mean, right in the beginning of the trailer they said it was a book. So obviously Henry was the character in the book. But I haven’t seen it so that might not be the case. But if it was, then they shouldn’t have said that in the first place. Then people would have believed he was actually the main character.
Thanks Grace 🙏
I saw Argylle in 4DX today and had a blast! It isn’t for everyone, but I had a great Time!
SAME. i loved it so much, kinda felt shameful bout liking it tho..cause i do agree that its not a smart movie 😂
Mathew Vaughn:
"Aren't you going to talk about my movie?"
Journalist:
"... ... ..."
"What do you think about Deadpool III?"
Grace i was watching Ghosts UK and NCIS Sydney , both foreign tv shows, but i liked them and Krapopolis , Dan Harmon's cartoon set in Ancient Greece , which i like and the Floor, Fox's new game show about trivia
Wondering where on Netflix do you find their numbers
netflix top ten google it it has its own website part of tudum
I’m curious to see how Hazbin Hotel performs for Amazon Prime. It’s such an incredible show and the music is amazing.
It should be a passionate but relatively medium to modest audience like the Owl House. Hazbin didn't catch me for a second episode
Taylor did move the needle again, by announcing not a re-release but a freaking new album
I watched fool me once when it dropped. I have since read two Coben books and will watch his other adaptations. I was thoroughly entertained reading and watching his stuff.
I love how you say the harsh truth harshly without being too harsh.
I have said it before , i'll say it again , If Steve Jobs was still alive he would never have gave so much money for those movies without reading the script and asses the business side of it.
Netflix's "Fool me Once" is hugely entertaining. That's why it's successful. And it's a crime drama series, which have been oddly underserved on Netflix.
This last week I watched:
The Greatest Pop Song Ever Told (Netflix) very good
Myself and girlfriend went to see American Fiction in the the cinema Saturday (in Ireland). Had tickets booked to Arglle, but after reading the reviews, decided to give it a miss. Great choice, American Fiction is excellent, I hadn't even seen a trailer for it, but couldn't have been more surprisingly pleased with it. I hope it blows up from word of mouth, unfortunately, it's very quick for it to be going to streaming
17:52 Thats Melissa Roxburgh from "Manifest", the show you talked about a lot
"Ouch." That seems to be the only thing I've seen her in; unless I didn't recognize her in _Star Trek: Beyond._
Hmmm i think the box office numbers dud is not reflective of howard and rockwell but more reflective of cavill and duolipa’s. Because people don’t even know rockwell and howard are the main actors in the movie.
Rockwell's biography should be called Confessions Of A B-List Actor
@@donaldpaluga I legit cannot think of a single movie Rockwell ever managed to draw in a crowd for. Honestly Bryce is the only real debatable one of the two.
I think this is the death Nail for Cavil playing Bond. This is yet another huge movie that based it's entire marketing campaign around Cavil, and another time, he has failed to excite GA.
He'll be fine but he needs to pick less basic roles lol. Cavil is simple so when he's in a simple role it can either be tolerable ie Clark Kent or too bland
Maybe the studio for The Chosen is conservative, but the show itself is not, it’s just a good and accurate biblical retelling - both conservative and more liberal christians I know love the Chosen and that’s why it’s so popular I think! very interesting
There's a SHOW being played in theaters?!?!?!? AND Its doing GOOD boxoffice wise?!?!?!? D
This has happened before
It's because it's Jesus! I saw it this Thursday! Loved it! Was so well made too! One of the better theatre going experiences I've had in a while. 😊
Demon Slayer "movies" are actually episodes of the show, same as The Chosen release model. And Demon Slayer Mugen Train took #1 at the U.S. Box Office for weeks! To a slightly lesser extent, the Attack On Titan premieres in cinemas did fairly well too.
Shocker
Yeah, if Cavill had been the star, I might have gone. Also when the film's trailer first debuted, I wasn't so keen. I thought the film looked too similar to Romancing the Stone.
Rockwell is better than Cavill
Cavill is more popular than Rockwell.
@@snowshock8958 - Clearly not, because no one showed up for Cavill.
cavill didn't even look like he wanted to be in the movie!
Let Apple “COOK”. Like CEO Tim Cook? Haha
😂
I just saw Suncoast at AMC Empire 25 on Saturday. It was terrific!
When Apple TV+ first came out, people were saying how expensive it would be to have $15 million per episode of “See”.
Then it got a second season!
200 milolion from the trailers it seamed that movie should have been able to be made muchh cheaper.
I'm starting to wonder if their putting long-term costs of the studios into the films' reported budgets. Or it could be someone got the contract for that much and pocketed quite a bit as they were satisfied with the final cut.
Is disgusting to see some of these films that clearly are not or shouldn't be worth 200 million get greenlid (I think maybe a combination money laundering and nepotism) , when there are so many potential great creators with new innovative projects who can't get funded or just barely get enough funding to deliver an incomplete or mediocre product (with a lot of potential) do to very very poor funding.
If Apple or any other company looses 200m or more consistently on projects like this I will celebrate it, because hopefully when the loses get to the Billions it will raise a few eyebrows! Seriously this could have been a "SYFY Channel Original😂😂" All this did was made me wasnt to watch the original and MUCH SUPERIOR movie this stole from "The Long Kiss Goodnight" 😃
I loved Fool me Once. Recommended it to my psrents snd they loved it too.
Grace - with The Chosen a consistent and growing success and for them and the theaters thinking out of the box are u open to checking it out ever?
I saw it, and it was 10/10.
Im thinking of checking out Slow Horses after watching the trailer! looks like my cup of tea based on my mood right now :)
Apple makes some of the best "quality" content of all the streamers. They just cant get butts in theaters. Argylle had a decent concept but it felt like a streamer. It feels like movies need to be a viral sensation to make money these days.
5:31 Apple does have a lot of money but the MarketCap doest have to do anything with how much money apple can spend :D
I watched Fool me once with my parents. It was pretty fun
Tina Fey as a fantasy writer is on point.
I cringed when she said that, as I felt she took me out of the movie, _A Haunting in Venice,_ by poorly playing a mystery writer supposedly being a character Agatha Christie wrote to put herself in the Poirot stories. The other actor playing an American screamed "TV" as well.
why is the budget for Argyle that high? o.O
That The Chosen poster looks beautiful actually. If those are the actors that has to be the most realistic Bible movie I have seen.
I didnt even know Rockwell or Howard were in the movie. I just knew there was a cat in it. Lipa and Cena sound familiar. But where were the ads?
0:20 🗣 „LET THEM COOK“👌🔥🔥🔥🥵🥵🥵
16:39 because everyone has netflix 😂😂
I put on Apple TV to watch Monarch when it wrapped and now I'm hooked on the extensive amount of science fiction shows on there. I watched all 3 seasons of See in a week, now I'm on the second season on Invasion. Then I'm off to begin Foundation afterwards. I'm definitely going to churn Apple at some point, still don't love the movies on there. But the shows have got me hooked at the moment.
I loved Argylle. Such a shame it flopped :(. Bryce Dallas Howard and Sam Rockwell were so good!
So far for this year, I am only interested in watching Deadpool 3 in theaters. I think the pandemic and entertainment coverage in social media made me care less and have more patience that I don't feel the excitement for movies anymore :/
After _Deadpool 2_ my expectations are not high.
@arunjoshi1728 most interested in Deadpool 3, Joker 2, Dune 2,Madam web and Creature Commandos ( even if CC is animated and not a theater release am interested in watching it )
200M?! 😬 There is no way. How?!
It’s interesting to think of Apple as premiering and flexing and exhibitioning what they can do in their Studio and showcasing vs them “Pass/Failing” their Movie numbers 🧐
I churn all the streamers, tend to keep 2 at a time not plus Prime, but Netflix is the one i most consistently keep. its not all good but the shear volume of content means i can always find something even if its something mid at best.
