Great humor and video! Catfish in Guam love chicken livers you can buy at grocery store for cheap..Ya it is Clarias Macrocephalus, aka bighead catfish.There are also walking catfish in Guam but less common. Both are air breathers and can swim in brackish water. Not purely freshwater.
Rocky Kingree We also thought it was Clarias macrocephalus, but the occipital process seemed to be pointed, not round. So then we thought it was batrachus, but their average length and weight is smaller than what we caught. We submitted to USGS for review!

Never had any luck with real catfish bait. The chicken livers will also snag a rock flagtail. Also, called the Mountain Bass or Jungle Perch. Awesome videos on catching them in Australia are on youtube. They are a native game fish to Guam and cousin to North America bass. They too are believed to reproduce in saltwater. In Chamarro, called Imatang. Kuhlia rupestris is scientific name.

I like personally catching a large mountain trout/jungle perch might make a good video. They are quite a game fish
You gotta go deeper into the river. That guy was just trying to keep you away from the bigger ones for the tourists to see. Next time you go just go super deep. Don’t get lost but if you go far enough there are spots full of catfish where the tourist boats stop and feed the fish.

2024/09/06 TGIF! Wow! that really is a large Catfish! Great catch Elizabeth, but why didn't you catch more? You could refrigerate to preserve for next meals. I've never tried catfish but somehow I ate it without knowing its catfish. I'm scared of those fishes cause they look very scary to me. When I ate it, it was delicious & notice its texture was soft. When someone told me it is catfish I was eating, I honestly didn't know if I should spit it out of my mouth or just enjoy eating it even though I'm scared of it. I'm not afraid of things except my phobias of Snakes, worms & maggots. Yuck! I'm glad you both like Guam. We're moving back soon, hopefully by the end of this year or early next. We've been living in San Diego, CA. USA since '96 but been going home to visit every year except 2020 due to Covid. It's time to move back Home. Nice! I live on saipan just north of Guam and flew down their for a quick vacay, I went on that exact tour boat that takes trips up and down the river, we went up to that so called fork and their was a ton of cat fish, the guides even gave us bread and those monsters were hungry

All 3 species are used in aquaculture in the Philippines and often hybridize. I submitted this to USGS and they were in agreement that it did not look to be either of the listed species in Guam, but could not confirm it was gariepinus because I didn’t count the gill rakers. Who knows :) Could be a hybrid too!
Stinky garbage-- instead of just trashing plastic bag packaging, stash the bags and use them to bag the stinky stuff. Extra stinky stuff can be double or triple bagged. Super stinky stuff can be bagged and stashed in the freezer until garbage day.

When you set traps like that in the jungle try tying a bright colored cloth to a tree or shrub nearby it definitely helps 🙂👍
