  • Now that almost all the fuel is out of the tank it's time to drop it. The tank on this 96 Ford E-350 is huge and holds 35 gallons but is quite manageable when empty. Taking it out was surprisingly easy didn't even need to jack up the van due to its superb ground clearance. Now we can move on to the cleaning and pump replacement part. Thanks for watching and I hope this video was helpful!

      Yeah its a bit of work, not as bad if the tank is mostly empty though

    Yesterday I ran my truck without oil and obviously the motor is gone.
    I have had this van parked on my back yard for probably 5 years (it was my inheritance from my grandma so I didn’t want to get rid of it) and I think I’ll have to get it running.
    This video was quite informative and it showed all the steps you need to take.
    Much appreciated.

      that's no good! nice you have that van though. no problem, a new pump and tank cleaning should have it running great

    Hey man, awesome video! Thank you for creating this. I have a question about that aux port on the fuel pump. Looking under my van I notice I have the same. As far as you know, is this the same quick-disconnect as the other two ports? Thanks again.

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks! Yeah looks like its the same connection. Not sure what its for though. The new pump assembly came with the block off cap already installed. I wonder if its for a aux tank for fuel transfer

    Nice work. Is that a plastic tank or metal? If metal, are you going to line it with some time of POR solution?

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, its metal, i fixed the small rust spots on the outside with Eastwood encapsulator platinum then coated the whole outside in flex seal

    It’s a bit more expensive, but I personally recommend kroil instead of most other penetrating oils

    I'm sorry...would this be similar to dropping a tank on a e150 08 ? It looks very similar . Do you happen to know ?

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      should be pretty similar. might be some slight differences but basically the same

      I have ‘11 E150. Dropped fuel tank twice to change fuel pump. Same procedure for my ‘11. I’ve done extensive work on my ‘11 and have owned 3 prior to this one. If you need any help with anything hit me up. I’ve done everything under the sun on Ford Econolines. Except replaced engine.

    When did they start 2 put fuel pumps In gas tanks?

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      good question, I think they changed it around late 80's early 90's. I think they did it so it keeps the pump cool so it lasts much longer. which is also why it's not good to drive constantly around with low fuel. makes the pump wear out faster

    • @GaryYoung-eq1ph
      @GaryYoung-eq1ph ปีที่แล้ว

      Had 81 dodge van changed fuel pump 2 or 3 times in a walmart parking lot in 1hr (kept van for 15yrs!!!!) Beats an expensive, very hard 2 change pump -anytime! Older easier.

    Why don’t manufacturers they build a trap door that can open and close . With a gasket seal. On vans
    Maybe like a car under the back seat

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably to save cost, its best to pull the tank and clean it or you could just be wasting money with a new pump anyways
