The Fact that this movie was made 12 years later after the first film means that much of the audience from that movie were at least preparing for college themselves during this movie’s release. Pretty great timing.
I actually really like how Sully was portrayed when he was younger. It really helps to highlight how much he matured, and how he got to be so down to earth. He really set aside his ego in order for others to shine.
The reason Monsters University works is because it weaponizes the audience's knowledge of the future against them. It KNOWS it's a prequel. We know that Mike won't become a scarer, but the movie spends most of its runtime fooling us into believing it might happen - so when the rug-pull happens, it's brutal and shocking. It also has the message that no matter how hard you want a dream, and how much you try to make it happen... some things aren't meant to be, and that's actually okay, because then you can get a dream that's even better for you.
In my case, i don't know if anyone else thought so, but i never once believed he could make it because of the original movie. When Mike got a perfect score in the scare simulator my first thought wasn't that "he made it" but rather "how? He isn't a scarer in the original, something must be off".
Might also explain(also with how dark the room was)why in the first movie he couldn't tell it wasn't Boo that walks into her room and inadvertently kidnaps Mike.
Can we agree that Squishy should’ve gotten a higher score in the simulator? Despite the way he looks, I can imagine getting really scared of a teleporter who can make THAT face. 😨

The fact that Randal held a grudge against Sully for what happened in this movie drove him to become second place as the top scare at Monsters Inc in the first place. So, Sully actually helped this man become a better scare-er by giving him a true goal. Mike also has his reasons for his feelings towards Randal but all three could have been even better if Randal let it go and worked with Mike and Sully.

I love the message of the film. As much as we joke about how people are "built different," sometimes that's the truth. That no matter how hard we try at something we won't succeed. Sometimes you won't accomplish your dreams. But that doesn't mean you can't succeed in other areas that align with your interests and passions. One failure can lead to a successful and fulfilling future. Mike realizes he's not scary, and he never will be, no matter how hard he tries. But he did end up working on the Scare Floor in a way that suits him and he feels satisfied, and eventually he did end up filling scream cans in the future as we see in Monsters Inc. where he made kids laugh, utilizing his comedic talent. It's a great message and it shows how the people behind this movie didn't just make it to cash in, but because they had a story they wanted to tell

Honestly I find Mike to be scarier than some of the background monsters we see in the scaring course. If I saw a giant green eyeball with arms and legs screaming at me in the middle of the night I would be hysterical
Something I really enjoyed about this movie is that it subverted one of the major problems with most prequels, that you know where the characters end up. Because we know that Mike and Sully end up working as scarers at Monsters Inc we naturally assume that they win the bet and graduate but the movie manages to avoid being that predictable and still end in a way that makes sense for where we know they end up

Thank you from all the Billy’s Also the ending scare is absolutely phenomenal and manages to always give goosebumps every time. From setting the mood, to the realization that these are adults. Sure they may have been scared in the past but it’s the fact of “They’re adults, monsters SHOULDN’T exist” and yet there it is, standing right in front of them, scaring the hell out of them. Freaking phenomenal
43:15 Theirs a 2 season mini series called "Monsters at Work" that takes place immediately following the events of "Monsters Inc" that explains what happens next after switching to laugh power. The voice cast from the films reprised their roles and everything if your interested.
This came out in 2013 (11 years ago). I remember watching this in the drive in, and my mom showed me a picture of Randall wearing glasses someone posted on Facebook the day the movie was released. I was 8 years old. I wasn't born when Monsters Inc came out but I watched it several times on DVD.
Man, I remember playing the Monsters University world in Disney Infinity on the Wii...I might have to hook my Wii back up and my Disney Infinity pad as well as the 1.0 characters out later today. 💙 💚 💜 (Those who know know)
The closest thing to a Monsters Inc sequel you'll get is the spin-off series, Monsters at Work, which takes place right after the movie and Mike/Sulley both play big parts in the show despite not being the true main characters in it
There was a deleted concept where Mike and Sulley were going to be rivals as kids. It would have lined up with what Mike said in the first movie: “Whatever pal, you’ve been jealous of my good looks since the 4th grade.”
Not only does that one monster look like the kid from stranger things, but he has the freaking lisp too. LOL Definitely keep knocking out Pixar movies, because most of them are worth it.
Seeing how big the monsters can get in this movie and that mythical creatures to humans are just monsters in the first, it makes me wonder if there are legendary scarer families resembling dragons, goblins, etc.
This movie was something else when I first saw this. Honestly, I remember this more than the predecessor. Ironic, isn’t? From what I noticed, it reminded me of two things I’ve learned 1: Dream smaller, it’ll lead you to less disappointment and 2: a victory without effort is worse than a defeat. I say those things because I believe in them, especially the second since we all have many aspirations that we wish we could accomplish and yet, no matter how hard we work for it or how much effort it was put into it, there’s always something that ruins everything. When someone else saw the reveal of how Mike “succeeded” in the final trial, they said to accept it and improve on it. To that, I was against it because how can you move on to the next step knowing that you unwilling cheated to be where you are? You’re basically lying to yourself. Plus, my mother always tell me that people can spend years studying to have one of those prestigious careers and they’re now working in such common places like a a grocery store or the post office; indicating that we don’t need such educations to work on something. Most people have certain positions by working their way up and now, they have acquired many things that not all people got because if we want something, we have to earn it and that is through hard work. Side note, I’m exactly like Squishy. As a strong silent type, I always walk up to people and they’re easily spooked by my mere presence and what Ruff said in the end after the short was hilarious. Hahaha. Also, please watch Khumba. To me, it’s a hidden gem and wait till the credits to hear something special.
My stupid ass did not look at the date, just the time. So i've been waiting since this morning and just now was like "oh fuck it's 16:22!", and had the audacity to be shocked that 'youtube was lagging'.
This is a really good sequel/prequel and I absolutely enjoyed it a lot, but it's better when you all react to this film! It's such a joy to watch and I hope you'll check out both Enchanted and Disenchanted soon! You'll enjoy them as much as I have 😁
Actually guys there's an animated tv show for Monsters Inc. Its got about two seasons so far, and its actaully pretty good! I wont spoil anything but to give a brief summary. Basically its the story of how Sully & Mikes Laugh power really becomes the new power for Monstropilis. Basically taking place before Mike fixes Boo's door at the end of the first movie.
4:45 yeah i went to university of tennessee for a semester (lol found out there werent going to be any jobs of my chosen field within the nearest 3 states if i stayed there racking up debt and fucked right off out of there) and went from 115 to between 95/100lbs just from all the walking. that was 8 years ago and only this year was i finally able to gain it back and not be scarily underweight lmao
28:10 TLDR: roll with the punches with teens and be flexible and you’ll be fine, teen years aren’t as bad as assumed according to adolescent psych. Long version: actually, my adolescent psych class essentially explained the whole teen thing. Most of the time it’s just parents who can’t adapted to their kids increasing need for independence, parents who assume trouble, or parents with kids who are already impulsive/misbehaving young that struggle with teens. If your situation is fine young then as long as you adapted, you’ll be fine. Also, generally both sexes have the same amount of trouble as teens, it can often present differently, but neither are inherently more problematic (despite what media may portray).
This movie is so underrated imo. Sure its a sequal, and a good amount of the college stuff is pretty standard, but the story and characters are solid, and DAMN that turn at the end 😙👌
I love you guys shedding more light on some of the more under-appreciated Disney flicks, this was a fun one! Would love to see you guys react to Pixar’s Onward; Bug’s Life is also an oldie but a goodie.
For years i’ve always wondered what’s actually more powerful. A Child’s laughter. Or an Adult scream Cause we know at the end of Monsters Inc that Sully said Laugh power is 10 times stronger than scream. But when he scared adult he overloaded every can in the room, and even the door that it exploded from too much power, so what energy source would be most efficent???
But he didn't scare only one adult, there were over five of them probably having the most terrifying experience in their lives. Therefore they all screamed extremely loud, hence the overload and explosion. Plenty of human kids laughing as loud as Boo at the same time would probably be just as, if not more efficient
You know what's weird there's this little plot hole from the first movie and this movie shows that they didn't meet until they went to college but in the first movie there's some dialogue that says they knew each other when they were in like the 4th grade or something😅
32:11 I honestly think Mike’s performance would’ve scared me more as a kid, mostly because of the sound of his scream sounding so much more human than Johnny’s.
I actually LOVED this movie changing it so that they worked their way up through the company. It makes Randal’s anger make way more sense from the first movie.
if you want to know what happened to johnny at the end , theres a serie monster work , 2 season , which take the follow up after the first movie. later in the end of the season we are seeing him more and more
This movie is by far the one that Has the Best lesson in any kids film. Instead of "with hard work and believing in your self you can achieve your dreams" it shows that, sometimes it isn't enough and your dreams will stay as just dreams, and that sometimes, that isn't so bad
If you guys were still wondering for a sequel to the first movie AND prequel, there is with the form of a series called “monsters at work” in Disney plus. Which includes the events of BOTH movies in canon.
That built different sound effect really threw me off because I had my playstation on mute but started a game at the exact moment it went off and I had to sit there for a minute to figure out where the sound came from.
The beginning of this movie is too real for me. That's how I ended up going to the college I went to, cause I saw someone I admired and was like "Yeah I can be as good as them if I make it there." That childish wonder was done astoundingly well.
43:59 So I believe everyone saw the scene with the snail reaching the school but I had yet to see this post credit scene because every other reaction was too short to include it. And I’m glad I was able to see something other than the snail for once
I didn't feel the same feeling as Mike the first time I watched it and a few times that I did. But NOW... I feel him 😃 I just graduated from 12th grade and now I'm waiting to be enrolled to college. I'm a little nervous because not only that I didn't get the college I wanted but I'm stuck with a course that I know would be difficult for me (Education). And, after graduation, I had a private talk with my teachers when I didn't receive a single Award at the ceremony and they say that it's okay and that I'm already good enough, even without an award. But then, I asked myself, "What if" and there, I had a positive outlook on my course. But I still want my desired course, Tourism/Creative Writing 😅 I'll still try to survive college when I'm now accepted
I thoroughly enjoy your animated movie reactions, but there are many classics you haven't yet covered. I suggest you explore the history of animation by starting with "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" from 1926. From there, you could proceed chronologically, reacting to each subsequent film and observing the evolution of animation. You may include both cartoons and anime, excluding recap films and those you've already seen. Alternatively, you could create a separate video summarizing and reviewing the films you've already watched. This is merely a suggestion, but I believe it would be a fascinating journey through the history of animation.

26:21 Holy fuck- you guys ACTUALLY got the Pre-Watch Allegation gong. I know it was something mentioned in a video a long time ago but it actually fills me with joy that you guys actually got the gong to shoot at whenever there’s pre watch allegations. Awesome. Thank you from all the Billy’s
Also the ending scare is absolutely phenomenal and manages to always give goosebumps every time.
12:07 didnt know Randell had a thing for goth girls
what?
cupcakes?
"Wonder what happened to him?" Welp, you can find out in the animated series Monsters At Work.
Man, I remember playing the Monsters University world in Disney Infinity on the Wii...I might have to hook my Wii back up and my Disney Infinity pad as well as the 1.0 characters out later today. 💙 💚 💜 (Those who know know)
Did you do it?
@1_Toed_Man Yeah meng, it took me back. 3.0 on the Xbox one is still superior though imo.
The closest thing to a Monsters Inc sequel you'll get is the spin-off series, Monsters at Work, which takes place right after the movie and Mike/Sulley both play big parts in the show despite not being the true main characters in it
So some of the questions you guys ask are answered in the series Monsters at Work so I'd recommend checking it out only about 20 episodes
I can't believe I've seen this movie at least a dozen times growing up and never knowing there was an after credit scene
And with this you guys have covered my top 5 Pixar’s.
Erick Before: Why is there fire underwater
Erick Now: *The only one who believed Mike won* Eh, it's dramatic effect
This movie was something else when I first saw this. Honestly, I remember this more than the predecessor. Ironic, isn’t? From what I noticed, it reminded me of two things I’ve learned
1: Dream smaller, it’ll lead you to less disappointment and 2: a victory without effort is worse than a defeat.
Fun Fact, I have heard that John Worthington and Randall do return as villains in the show Monster's at Work
Unpopular Opinion but nostalgia aside, University > Inc
The guy that got thrown out by the librarian is the same guy who got tackled by police in the first movie
This is a really good sequel/prequel and I absolutely enjoyed it a lot, but it's better when you all react to this film! It's such a joy to watch and I hope you'll check out both Enchanted and Disenchanted soon! You'll enjoy them as much as I have 😁
How have I never seen that post credit party scene?!? That had me rolling!!!
🤯 I've watched this movie several times and never even knew that it had basically 3 other end credit scenes. WTH?!
This movie is so underrated imo. Sure its a sequal, and a good amount of the college stuff is pretty standard, but the story and characters are solid, and DAMN that turn at the end 😙👌
43:17 if you guys are curious about what happened to Johnny, you gotta watch Monsters At Work, but that answer is revealed in season 2
I'm absolutely LOVING the new 3 movies a week Billy! 💜
I am STUNNED it took me this long to learn about that whole short at the end! That's great XD
I love you guys shedding more light on some of the more under-appreciated Disney flicks, this was a fun one!
Would love to see you guys react to Pixar’s Onward; Bug’s Life is also an oldie but a goodie.
Madagascar and the ice age movies are recommendations that y'all should watch in the future !
Team OK is literally Sorta Stupid😭
Ruff is Art
Boom is Don
Erik is the two headed guy
Bree is Squishy loll
For years i’ve always wondered what’s actually more powerful. A Child’s laughter. Or an Adult scream
Cause we know at the end of Monsters Inc that Sully said Laugh power is 10 times stronger than scream.
32:11
I honestly think Mike’s performance would’ve scared me more as a kid, mostly because of the sound of his scream sounding so much more human than Johnny’s.
27:18 I CAN'T GO BACK TO JAIL! 😂
All the times I've seen this I never thought to look for any end/after scenes, they were so good! XD
I actually LOVED this movie changing it so that they worked their way up through the company. It makes Randal’s anger make way more sense from the first movie.
Centipede lady with the bat wings is the person in charge of the university
1:24 Little Mike Wazowski!
2:16 Scares have Arrived!

21:19 Holy Cow!

Bro I never saw that ending part where they go across the human world to each others houses😂
Yall gonna love this one 🙌🏾💯 It’s just as funny as Monsters Inc 😂🤣
if you want to know what happened to johnny at the end , theres a serie monster work , 2 season , which take the follow up after the first movie. later in the end of the season we are seeing him more and more
Had no idea that was Charlie Day. Also the professor was Alfred Molina
This is a criminally underrated pixar film imho. The only reason that it isnt on par with the original is that the og was more innovative
This movie is by far the one that Has the Best lesson in any kids film.
Instead of "with hard work and believing in your self you can achieve your dreams"
it shows that, sometimes it isn't enough and your dreams will stay as just dreams,
and that sometimes, that isn't so bad
The monster university story continued to Monster at work season 1 and mostly season 2
*mentions Blue mountain state* GIMME A HELL GIMME A YEEEAAAAHHHH
The beginning of this movie is too real for me. That's how I ended up going to the college I went to, cause I saw someone I admired and was like "Yeah I can be as good as them if I make it there." That childish wonder was done astoundingly well.
WOW I didn't know there was an episode Party Central! I'm...more than a decade late! 😨
25:56 bro I'm watching in my ps5 and I thought my controller died lmao
Me too lol
I personally like this movie more than the original
They would LOVE watching the show Monster's At Work. It not only is a sequel to the original movie, but also ties in both MI and MU into the story!
the post cred scene was so dam hilarious......it's always the quiet ones that turned out to be the wild ones lol
Enjoy the movie Stardust. Just a one shot adventure comedy. Stars, lightening pirates, brothers fighting for a crown, witches. All good stuff.
I don't know how I never seen that party scene with Squishys Mom what!? Mosnter's Inc is so fun, I love how it fleshed out the world.
AFTER 11 YEARS FROM ITS RELEASED…..AM I JUST FINDING OUT THERE’S AN EXTRA CLIP FOR THIS MOVIE!?!
I've grown to like this film the last 4 years
imagine the amount of power when adults laughing seeing their screams blew up a door
43:59 So I believe everyone saw the scene with the snail reaching the school but I had yet to see this post credit scene because every other reaction was too short to include it.
And I’m glad I was able to see something other than the snail for once
Billy crystal and John Goodman as Mike & sulley
I didn't feel the same feeling as Mike the first time I watched it and a few times that I did. But NOW... I feel him 😃
I just graduated from 12th grade and now I'm waiting to be enrolled to college.
But I still want my desired course, Tourism/Creative Writing 😅
I'll still try to survive college when I'm now accepted
Now that my dad and I have arrived in our summer cabin for a family holiday I can enjoy your latest reaction 😄👏🏻💙💚🎥
