Maybe Selma should try finding a man who is both a sweetheart but also has a little bit of an adventurous side to him. Not only that but he has to be father material for ling if the creators ever bring her back to the show as an actual important character.
@@JaminsongunnerJust don’t buy into the whole “seasonal rot” thing. Modern episodes can be good, classic era has duds, just watch the show. I recommend a random episode generator so you can get a good variety of episodes.

Selma sings “you make me feel like a natural woman” because at when the episode aired it was shortly after the TV show character “Murphy Brown” sang the same song after giving birth. It was a major moment at the time because Murphy was a single mom and it created controversy as some saw it as glorifying single motherhood. The Simpsons was parodying that moment.
"Why did Disco Stu get an annulment if he loved her so much?" Because the modern era has an unfortunate tendency to sacrifice plot cohesion and logical character progression in favour of sight gags and quick jokes. I'm sure someone had fun drawing that Selma shrine though.
I also feel like Stu wanted it at the moment, fearing commitment, but regretted it later and began to idolize the relationship that didn’t last too long. I wouldn’t mind if the Simpsons gave their relationship a real shot instead of side gags, but I can’t imagine them doing it any real justice.
If they could give Comic Book Guy and even Willie their true loves then Selma deserves the same. She’s been an established character for much longer than those two. Also I just now realize the meaning of the episode title A Fish Called Selma.
Honestly, I would love it if Selma was set up with a single dad. It just seems like a cute storyline for her, and it would also be a way to bring Ling back to a front and center moment, even if it was only for an episode.
I think it's worth mentioning (if it hasn't been already), that it was Selma that helped Homer and Marge early on, telling a pregnant Marge that Homer was secretly working at a local fast food joint to help provide for their first child, even though Patty demanded they stay silent on the matter. It seemed to show that as much as she disliked Captain Wacky (later renamed Homer), and thought her kid sister could do better, he meant a lot to her and that was more important than her delight at him working a menial job. Seems like that could be a factor in her overall arc.
Selma may be cranky and gruff, but I think a lot of the time she goes along with her sister. She seems to be more jealous of what Marge has with Homer, and she does seem to respect Homer at times
I’ve always thought that she secretly likes Homer because he makes Marge happy but can’t really show it because of Patty being so dominant. Patty is clearly dragging Selma down at times and several episodes show the results. Selma knows Homer is a good husband and father despite his many flaws and doesn’t want Marge to be unhappy like her. Patty has always been a downer who relishes making people miserable just for the heck of it but Selma would rather see others be happy if she can do something about it.
I'm glad that when Homer was death and didn't want to kill Marge, he chose Patty as the decoy. It sort of implies he likes Selma more and didn't want her to die alone and unhappy. She deserves to have a happy life before he ends her.
Marge tells Patty that Homer hates her (Patty) more then anything, and that he feels bad for Selma because she has to put up with Patty. Its in episode Livin La Pura Vida Season 31, Episode 7
Selma has shown some subtle signs of actually liking Homer and can see how happy he makes Marge and how he tries to be a good father. It was Selma who told Marge where to find Homer after he left her while pregnant with Bart and you can see the look on Selma’s face when she sees Marge crying over losing Homer that she didn’t want Marge to be miserable. Patty is the one that drags Selma down and I think she’s afraid to stand up to her twin because she’s afraid that she’ll be all alone and also because of being a twin, they share a very special bond with each other. Patty enjoys making everyone around her miserable while Selma would rather allow others to be happy around her and not ruin the mood just because she miserable on the inside. Selma always seemed to be the more empathetic of Marge’s sisters and seems nicer towards Homer whenever Patty isn’t around.
I remember as a kid, I thought both Patty and Selma were horrible, horrible people. Over the years, I realized Selma was actually kind of nice, but I never saw Patty not being awful. Maybe things changed over the years, but I never liked Patty.

It is interesting how both their love lives have lead to them gaining more respect for Homer at least within the episode of the realisation, Patty in how people see Evelyn the way she sees Homer, and Selma for how envy for having a loving family influences her treatment of him.
I think they should do a gag where a new guy comes into town and starts flirting with her and because she's her she flirts back but the whole episode makes it seem like he might be a bad guy and they think he murdered Disco Stu cause they find his outfit there but plot twist it's Disco Stu but in normal clothes where he says 'if I was a different person I could marry her again' I mean of course they are gonna make a joke on if they get married or not it would be cool to watch
22:37 I really wanna know how that connection was made in-universe. I don't think these three ever interacted before. If she had divorced Moe instead of Disco Stu, the three could have bonded over their criminal history.
I always felt so bad for Selma even as a kid, especially since they also like to remind us all that she's supposed to be repulsive or something? When really, the only really gross thing about her is her chain smoking
Barney is actually a decent guy when he's sober. Too bad they had him revert back to being an alcoholic. He could have been a decent suitor. Speaking of, they should have an episode about Barney and all his donor kids.

This was a really sweet and lovely video. I loved the real human connection and resonance you expressed. Early season Selma had a lot of great moments and I always loved how they made her distinct from Patty from just having that slightly more tender side, like when she tells Marge where Homer is in the flashback episode 😊
Ling just dissapearing is one of the most dissapointing things this show has done. The Simpsons now have a baby cousin. A growning up Maggie now has someone her own age to play with. There's story potential in them hills.
You know it's funny about her being married to Abe for a short time? She was Marge's mother in law and Homer's step-mother, but that would also make Homer, Marge's nephew and Marge, his aunt. lol
I feel that Moe's and Selma could have worked! Where BOTH are embarrassed of being with each other BUT over time they have a very private relationship the more they get to know each other; even to the point Patty doesn't know. Maybe being an episode of Patty and Marge are trying to figure out what the hell is going on with her resulting in them seeing them spending time on an idk a play date with the babies (Maggie and Lee...) month-anniversary together which have Moe and Selma deny it only for them to take that chance BY THEMSELVES to realize they have something with each other. That and have them NOT get married but be a official taking it slow compared to the others to show commitment and build from there. Cuz I feel that Moe's would spoil his adopted daughter.
I actually think that Skinner should be a potential love interest for Selma and this time he goes out with the right sister he is set up with. Patty is perfectly fine with Skinner and Selma dating as she viewed her own relationship with the principal as being platonic. Agnes on the other hand, doesn’t like Selma very much because she isn’t afraid of the elderly woman and can stand her ground during an argument. Agnes eventually sees how happy Skinner is with Selma and gives her blessing to them. From there we can have more episodes of Selma and Skinner being together.
Honestly I feel bad for Selma because even though she along with Patty are rude to Homer, all she wanted was to find love but every time she does that it backfired especially when Sideshow Bob tried to kill her for her fortune and that Fat Tony is already married. Well Lydia said it once that Fat Tony and Selma are perfect together and unlike Sideshow Bob, Fat Tony actually cares about her and enjoys her sassy comments despite wanting to cut her body parts at first.🥺🙂😅💘
Honestly, I could see Selma getting together with Gary. She becomes the fun stepmom to Shawna and Gary treats Ling as his new little princess. They also do a double wedding with Party and Evelyn.
I seem to remember Stu saying that the disco thing wasn't what he wanted he just went with it. So Stu and Selma getting together would be a good one, she gets her HEA and he can start being regular Stu every so often.
The only thing that bothered me was that Homer found out from Troy McClure at the bachelor party that he was only marrying Selma to revitalize his acting career! Why didn't he speak up at the wedding and told Selma the truth? It would've saved her from going into a sham marriage and being pressured to get pregnant by him!
If not for the creepy shrine, I'd say Disco Stu - but the shrine is ... a red flag and she deserves a non-redflag Or at least someone that has similar amounts of red flags to her. I'd love to see her with Ling and a husband. OR maybe a very committed, loving boyfriend. Maybe she at first tries to marry him but through some shenanigans realizes "No, I ALWAYS rush in and it always ends in divorce... let's take it slow." and she's so afraid he's going to run but he's like "Oh thank god, I like you too but that was too fast, I just know you're the one!" or something that's like, she's not gunna rush but if the show finally does wrap up, it leaves it so we know they'll work out.
I originally thought Patty and Selma were hateful shrews who hated Homer and the fact that Marge found someone she clicked with. But Selma I can relate to from wanting to find love and is frustrated with being single
Great job. I’m going to watch your videos more often now. Sorry it took me a long time to check it out but I was going to try your channel at the beginning of this year but I got side tracked by a lot of things. Selma’s early romantic episodes were definitely the best ones in my opinion. I also agree that I miss episodes where she strongly connected with Lisa and Bart.
Hey look it’s me! I’m officially a flying hell fish! So awesome! Great stuff as always, Lydia! I completely agree with you. I always felt like Selma was an extremely underrated character and it’s extremely frustrating how well developed she became only to not have it go anywhere! Particularly with Ling! Like why even do that if you’re not going to allow it to change the status quo? The very early episode with Patty and Skinner always bothered me because of Patty being a lesbian but now that I think back on it, you are correct. There were still still signs there so I guess I shouldn’t be that mad. I honestly completely forgot about the Selma and Grandpa episode until you recapped it. Oops! That was a good one. I’m going to have to go back and revisit that for sure! I would love to see Selma end up with someone, but I really don’t know who it would be other than as you mentioned an entirely new character. If Smithers wasn’t gay, I think they could be a good match, but he’s about the only one that jumps to my mind personality wise. That’s actually a really good question. I’m going to have to think about that for a minute. Have you thought about actually posting a theory again? I know they’re probably aren’t too many left, but I think it would be fun if you did have one!
From one Hellfish to another, congratulations! It's great at the top. Well, nearly at the top at least. Agreed that the Patty and Skinner episode is slightly weird in hindsight, especially the fact that Homer decides against Smithers as a match solely because he's a jerk.
Hey Josh, thanks so much for joining, I really appreciate you supporting the channel. Despite Theory being in my name, my theories videos have always been my least popular videos haha! If I come up with a really new fun one definitely, but probably not. I enjoy making the video essays more 🙂
@@TheSimpsonsTheory Hey Lydia! Of course you’re welcome! Like I told you, I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time; it just took me a while to be able to afford it! Just since joining it, put me in the mood to go back and enjoy some of the older videos too, and that’s what made me kind of miss the theories! That’s really interesting that they’re your least popular. I wonder why?
I would love it if Selma got together with someone like Charlie, just enough of a fringe character with some background who has some screen time and a voice who doesn't need a guest star that could use some expanding. Maybe he's got an extensive collection of lizards that are lonely like Jub-jub, they join a pet depression/anxiety group and sparks fly.
omg nearly at 500k yay you have done. amazing with this channel i always watch your videos. when i feel upset you always make me feel better. thank you. 😀
5:53 - 5:58 I kinda wanna mention how in Bob’s second appearance in the series he wasn’t startled or phase to discover that Selma was Bart’s aunt. You probably think he have a bit of a shock reaction since seasons later he’s started by the Simpsons while living with Italy. It probably early writing of Bob’s character but during the montage of Bob and Selma’s budding romance she didn’t seem to inform any bit of her extended family so Bob couldn’t of known she’s related to Bart.
what if they try Disco Stu again? Since we only get glimpses into that relationship, you can have an episode detailing how they got together and broke up in the form of flashbacks. Meanwhile, in the present, you can have them overcome the problems that separate them, and get the two back together at the end of the episode. Selma might be destined to have all her marriages end badly, but this trick of fate, cannot happen twice to the same person.
I tend to think Patty didn't even realize she was a lesbian until well into her adult life. That's why she was very uncomfortable dating anyone and didn't like to be touched (according to Marge). And I think that carries over to her relationship with Selma. I feel that Selma thinks she only has her and Patty, and the only closeness they want to share is their bond as twin sisters. While Selma does want to be with another person, Patty thinks she's better than that and sort of influences her to be just as abrasive. Patty and Selma are both disgusted by Homer and disgusted their little sister is being tied down with Homer, but Selma has that little resentment in the back of her head that comes with the amount of love Homer has for Marge, desperately wanting something like that. And I'd tend to think Patty is just glad that isn't her life and she can just be the anti-romantic lone wolf she wants to be.
I always thought Patty dragged Slema down because she's afraid of being alone without her. Like you said, Patty seems to bash every man Selma is with, sometimes without even getting a chance to know them, and when it comes to mocking Homer and Marge's relationship she seems to be the instigator and the most vitriol about it. Selma just seems to go along with it because of some loyalty to Patty. But when she isn't around, she's much nicer to Homer. Even Homer has commented that he feels sorry for Selma because she's stuck with Patty. Patty seems to drag Selma down to her level because she doesn't want to lose her, but she also doesn't want to improve herself either. In my own headcannon, I like to think Patty was the one to start smoking first and pressured Selma into picking up the habit. It's a perfect representation of their relationship.
Selma's Lovers tier list: - Okay, as much as I enjoy Bob I am afraid I must rank him last on this list.😈💥 - Skinner for obvious reasons - Robot Husband - need I say more? - Troy only thought of his fame, but hey at least he didn't to kill her - Mole-Man showed some interest - Moe just shared a kiss - Disco Stu - again, need I say more? - Fat Tony did care for her, even if he is married and she was his goomar - Abe at least cared for Selma and loved her enough to let her go She could go with Kirk, Dr Nick, Old Gil, Cecil (possibly), Stan the Ticket Man, or Very Tall Guy? Great video Lydia.☺👏💙
For some reason I love selma I don't know why I think It is because she is a twin as am I and I think the Willy. She just wants love and companions.Something that we can All relate to.
Selma's love life is a great way to humanize her as a character. She can be a real dick to Homer sometimes, so it's nice that they give her some actual personality outside of being the evil sister-in-law.
The Barney of the past was out of the league of both Patty and Selma before Homer got him addicted to alcohol. He was a very bright and upcoming student later on he finally kicked his habit and was going to be an Astronaut of all things sadly he ended up becoming an alcoholic again Barney has fallen so far.
No no he was the one to dump her when he found out she didn't care for disco. Despite having feelings for her to this day. In short he is a dumbass who wasted his chances
Because she didn't love disco stu, where he loved her, I forget the episode where she would hook up with him, but not get back together. I would love to see them get back together Also She winds up with Ned, as seen in his wall of dead wives

Ling just dissapearing is one of the most dissapointing things this show has done. The Simpsons now have a baby cousin. A growning up Maggie now has someone her own age to play with. There's story potential in them hills.
If they kept Barney sober, I bet he could have had another shot at Selma.
You know it's funny about her being married to Abe for a short time? She was Marge's mother in law and Homer's step-mother, but that would also make Homer, Marge's nephew and Marge, his aunt. lol
Thank god they didn't had kids during that time, they would be horrible freak with pink skin, no overbites and five finger on each hand!
Selma is definitely the better of her and Patty because Selma wants love and Patty well she might but not as much as Selma does
I actually think that Skinner should be a potential love interest for Selma and this time he goes out with the right sister he is set up with.
If not for the creepy shrine, I'd say Disco Stu - but the shrine is ... a red flag and she deserves a non-redflag
Or at least someone that has similar amounts of red flags to her.
Ned/Selma has potential... Also he's the type to enjoy a nice long courtship.
@@Alisha120058She’d probably end up dying like four weeks later. I’m pretty sure Ned is a serial killer.
Eh, Selma and Patty kidnapped Homer in that Bridezilla episode, Saw-style. Compared to that, Stu is normal.
Love how you call those episodes “A tier episodes.” Classic era episode tier list when?
I really liked Selma and Fat Tony together, I was sad when it turned to be just a goomar (or however you spell it) ceremony 😢
I'd love to see Selma hook up with Homer's brother, Herb.
I feel like they can redo the whole relationship with Selma and principal skinner if they set up a right setting.
@@Horsley-Green Ha it is! & yeah that’s another great example.
I have more than one client now as an editor, so I’m a little bit more secure!
Oh, don’t get me wrong never stop the essays! They’re amazing. I would be heartbroken if you did! Just since joining it, put me in the mood to go back and enjoy some of the older videos too, and that’s what made me kind of miss the theories! That’s really interesting that they’re your least popular. I wonder why?
Patty didnt really have her own personality then
10:24 “I am the lizard queen” which would later turn into “ I’m the flamingo queen”
I would love it if Selma got together with someone like Charlie, just enough of a fringe character with some background who has some screen time and a voice who doesn't need a guest star that could use some expanding. Maybe he's got an extensive collection of lizards that are lonely like Jub-jub, they join a pet depression/anxiety group and sparks fly.
omg nearly at 500k yay you have done. amazing with this channel i always watch your videos. when i feel upset you always make me feel better. thank you. 😀
same i wonder what’s she’s gonna do. for 500k
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊😊
Homer thought Principal Skinner was a possible "homer-sexual" when he was in his Terminator mode. LOL
Honestly, Selma and Moe would be a great couple. They look the same age, are considered ugly by many and are desperate for love.
I agree completely as long as it's treated seriously.
These 2 are perfect together
I’m gonna start shipping them
Yeah but maya (?) already exists.
@@julealero7689 Yeah, and it's a pity. I was a huge "Selmoe" fan.
5:53 - 5:58
I kinda wanna mention how in Bob’s second appearance in the series he wasn’t startled or phase to discover that Selma was Bart’s aunt.
19:03 Simpcest
Justice for Selma! After all that she's been through for love she deserves a steady man who loves her!
0:21 she almost got killed!
what if they try Disco Stu again?
It's long overdue for Selma to have her happily ever after.
What happened to her daughter
I think Lydia already did the video on Ling on her whereabouts.
I was waiting for this Selma has growth.
Selma's Lovers tier list:
- Okay, as much as I enjoy Bob I am afraid I must rank him last on this list.😈💥
- Skinner for obvious reasons
- Robot Husband - need I say more?
- Troy only thought of his fame, but hey at least he didn't to kill her
- Mole-Man showed some interest
- Moe just shared a kiss
- Disco Stu - again, need I say more?
- Fat Tony did care for her, even if he is married and she was his goomar
- Abe at least cared for Selma and loved her enough to let her go
She could go with Kirk, Dr Nick, Old Gil, Cecil (possibly), Stan the Ticket Man, or Very Tall Guy?
Great video Lydia.☺👏💙
WOOOOOOO NEW SIMPSONS THEORY VIDEO EVERYONE CHEER!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Pattys Sexuality was hinted at way back in Season 8s Bart After Dark.
I wish Selma would find her true love and stay with him. She's been through so much heartaches she deserve someone who loves her.
Selma is probably my favourite character outside of the immediate family
For some reason I love selma I don't know why I think It is because she is a twin as am I and I think the Willy. She just wants love and companions.Something that we can All relate to.
I do like her connection with Homer when She's not being mean to him for Patty
What about that Treehouse of Horror segment where Patty and Selma hooked up with Kang and Kodos. I know it's not canon but still
At least Selma has had enough exes that they could form a bowling team. I haven't 😂
Selma deserves to be happy. She knew bringing a child into a loveless marriage with a movie star might be unfair to the child.
I think it wouldve been funny to see more of her and Fat Tony
That would be cool!
❤🎉😊
Really feel for her in the episode Selma's Choice.
Immediately heard trump ad saying “their eating the dogs in Springfield”
I could see her with krusty the clown for some reason
Selma's love life is a great way to humanize her as a character. She can be a real dick to Homer sometimes, so it's nice that they give her some actual personality outside of being the evil sister-in-law.
The Barney of the past was out of the league of both Patty and Selma before Homer got him addicted to alcohol. He was a very bright and upcoming student later on he finally kicked his habit and was going to be an Astronaut of all things sadly he ended up becoming an alcoholic again Barney has fallen so far.
A Patches and Poor Violet video would be great, wonder what happened to those two?
I actually really hope she ends up with Disco Stu. He seems to really love her
Do the love life of Patty next!
Honestly I feel bad for her. She could be a great character
You should do Bart next yes indeed awsome vid!!
Selma should have given Stew a fair chance. So what if he's into disco?
I think it was more that he dumped her
No no he was the one to dump her when he found out she didn't care for disco. Despite having feelings for her to this day. In short he is a dumbass who wasted his chances
16:24 Marge did say it was because she found out he didn't care for Disco. Still I wish we saw more of their relationship.
Black Widower is still one of my faves
You know the two of them seem like the fun aunts
I thought I heard your voice from some were then I watched the episode of you in it
Maybe Unky Herb is Selma's Soultmate
Can you do the love life of Ned Flanders? Or have you already done it?
I was waiting for this video!! I luv selma
Because she didn't love disco stu, where he loved her, I forget the episode where she would hook up with him, but not get back together. I would love to see them get back together
Also She winds up with Ned, as seen in his wall of dead wives
