You have insulate when there are more than 20 degrees difference. Thanks for watching.

David, thanks for this vid. When you say the “20 deg difference”, are you speaking of the plenum TD or attic air vs supply air etc? Thanks much!

We put a cassette in a bottled water companies sales office, it was ok till they installed their filtering and bottling plant in the warehouse, but after this the whole thing sweated as the air was so humind! Had to insulate the case of the cassette and the drain line, plus the sparky had cabletied his cables to out line set and squashed the insulation which also dripped.

Have ran into this several times, and it always is in a attic that is very cramped and poorly ventilated.

Trying to decide if I should insulate my air handler as I live in fl with the air handler in the garage but still see temps of 95+ in the garage and tons of humidity with my air handler sweating all summer long. This video has made me decide to insulate the whole outside of the air handler. Thanks!

Did you end up insulating your air handler? If so, did it work?

What material to use to insulate or wrap the outside of the air handler?

I had this situation today. The customer kept the house at 68* and the air handler was in the attic.

“Comes from experience” but isn’t a correct solution. It’s a bandaid based on “guesswork”. In reality, and backed up by the books, Attic needs to be sealed and dehumidified. Dewpoint in being reached on that ahus surface.

It's a static pressure issue, duct work is probably too small

Exactly.hes not totally wrong but air flow is man issue of a sweating air handler.

Run a fresh air duct to the RA & raise the RA temp..

It is a static pressure issue. We see this when the customers are using high merv rated filters.

Can you apply a reflective insulation on the outside of the air handler that will work?

all the sudden mine blows steam/condensation out the roof vent and it has my rafters all damp and dripping in just the area from where the vent sticks out the roof. No explanation, just started doing it when I turn the heat on. Any ideas?

Your systems oversized if you’re able to reach 60 degrees on a hot summer day. Way oversized.

THE PROBLEM IS VERY CLEAR, THE CUSTOMER HAS THE THERMOSTAT SET BELOW 65!! ITS AIR CONDITIONING! NOT REFRIGERATION!! Typically in memphis Tn. we have attic temps 130-150 and no sweating, using the factory insulated cabinet. Yes, our humidity is very high as well. Typically you need to check the CFM if the cabinet is sweating profusely! But seriously, 66 return!

@@robjs10281 - how did you solve the handler sweating problems in the Attic? I have two units in the Attic. Inside house temperature set at 75 degrees during the day and 72 degrees at night. I had air vents added to the roof but I am still having sweating problems. I live in Texas and it has been hot. Rob, how do i solve the swearing issues on my Units?? Thanks.

David - my plenum has excessive sweating. The unit is in the attic. You talked about insulating the Plenum with some kind of material to prevent sweat. Where do I get the right plenum insulation material? Can I apply the Air Duct Installation cement to make the Plenum walls thinker to prevent sweating?? Thanks.

Jones - where can I get the air conditioner’s wrapping material to prevent sweating on the outside of my unit? Excessive sweating seems to cause black/brown spots which I tend to think it will cause molding in the attic??

The mood won't hurt you. That's a scam.
Call a reputable HVAC man to have it checked.
