- Welcome everyone to Racecars Universe!
Today I bring you another Special Feature, again something out of the ordinary like only the New Zealand racing scene can produce.
We jump onboard with Grant's 1965 Ford Thunderbird, a car we're probably not used to see tackling corners and hitting apexes. What would usually seem more suited for a country fair or a club day at the drag strip here takes a complete different turn with this Thunderbird getting all Transam'd.
Grant's T-bird is a truly well executed build of power, speed and balance. Spanning up to almost 6 meters long, we find a 427cubic inch big block Ford by Landon Motorsport with dry sump system, coupled to a 4 speed G-Force transmission, a 9inch ford rear differential, AP racing brakes and please note the tiny 17x8 Superlite wheels as imposed by the strict Pre-65 Class racing rules.
An astonishing work was done to subtract weight to this enormous vehicle, tipping the scale now at just 1600kg or 3500pounds for our American friends watching. The interiors are essential with a Racepack Digital Dash, main reservoirs, the usual harness and comprehensive rollcage and the dry sump main tank in what once was the back seats.
In the boot there's a dedicated fuel cell with surge tank and pickup pump, main pump,
relocated battery sitting opposite side of the driver for optimal weight distribution and cross brace bars to stiffen the whole area.
Just to clarify, the Pre-65 racing series goes on track together with the Mini series, hence seeing them both battling out at the same time. What a spectacle isn't it ??

My gosh, that 65 bird looks absolutely sinister. It's my favorite T-bird styling of the post '57s--that one looks like an orange shark and it gobbled up nearly everything on the back straight. Well done.
keep also in mind that in order to compete in this "Pre-65" racing class you have to meet several restrictions on suspensions and wheel size. If those were not an issue, Grant could literally take over every race. Period.
The old girl likes the back straight 😁
Yeah man, same for that Fairlane o featured last year, they both just fly on the straights. I understand why these engines were great for Nascar back then
Another masterclass Racecars Universe. Nothing like something completely different by way of a 427 T Bird to get the pulses racing.
Thank you so much John, I'm glad you're enjoying the content. I have really big plans for this channel and if I can also have fun in doing it that's the formula for success!
What a motley collection of cars.
Yeah so many different types
Unique. Bravo.
thank you
@@racecars.universe I am from Vancouver Canada. I have been a Ford guy for over 40 years. I currently own two escort Cosworth car and I used to have a sapphire Cosworth race car tarmac.
Fantastic and original car, exceptionally prepared, congratulation to the owner. It very close in behavior, to my 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 !
Thanks, yes I believe they're both similar cars actually. Have a look at the Fairlane 500 I feature not long before this: th-cam.com/video/ohnNeRGj4zc/w-d-xo.html

@@racecars.universe sama2😄
It`s so funny seeing a car that had room for four people comfortably and was classified as a personal luxury car go that fast down the straight. That thing needed 400 less kilos or a lot wider tire and it should be on a big oval circuit..
Same as I thought, the way it swings left and right it seems more suited for an oval race although very spectacular to see it move all over the place
Its a trunk.
A good FE would sound better.
It is an FE block.
And with proper gears can outrun any porsche you've got.
Not any Porsche, these new GT2 RS are track weapons
