Our experience with gas vs diesel pulling a travel trailer is definitely diesel. It’s a little more expensive in fuel but gets better mileage AND, most importantly, getting to the gas pump can be a lot easier. We use the big trucks pumps most of the time and it’s a lot less stressful
Glad you got to Fish Creek campground. Yes! It gets cold up here quickly. We are camping in our pop-up , we will be using buddy heater tonight. You guys will figure it all out...don't make any hasty decisions. Can't wait to see what's ahead for both of you! God bless 🙏
Hey, we are SO HAPPY you made it home. Consider a front receiver hitch feature on your new truck. A couple of TH-camrs we watch have them installed to get more "space" while camping/traveling. Mark of "Dispersed Camper Man" uses his front receiver hitch for added storage on the front of his truck, and Marc from "Grand Adventure" added one on his truck to support his kayaks. Check out their vLogs, and we hope this helps. Can't wait to see your new rig!!
We vote for you guys to get a bumper pull trailer that you love. Cover the bed of the truck with a lockable cover to store your things. We do this and we love our set up!
For the backseat of a truck, check out Weather Tech’s under seat storage tray. We put one in our truck and love it. If your backseat flips up as ours does, you’ll have access to the entire tray from either side because it runs from side to side.
Kelly and Kody please pay attention to wet weight of the camper, plus all your gear and your weight was well. An F250 will limit you. I’m currently on my 3rd TC and I have an F450 diesel with an arctic fox 865. My camper and gear alone weigh in at 4300 lbs. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to us and we’ll help the best we can. I’m really excited for your next chapter. I’m a TC girl through and through. I love them!! Cheers!
I love how you talk to us like we are along with you. And believe me, we feel like we are. I feel the Concern for your travels and ups and downs like a family member. I hope you take the time you need to work out exactly what you want to suit your particular camping style. We are all out here rooting for ya!
A slide-in truck camper sounds great (everything in one vehicle), but it’s a ton of weight on your chassis and the height is significant, making them top-heavy. That’s gonna limit you. You won’t be able to go to all the places that interest you. I really think you’d prefer travel trailer. Something like a GoPro or an EPro. Also consider NOT getting a diesel, cuz manufacturers are cutting those models, which is a heads-up re: availability of diesel.
Omg! I literally spent every childhood summer on Rough River lake! Very fond memories! I’m a long time follower and a full time rv er. You guys will figure it out. Just another challenge along the way. You have your health so it’s all good! Good luck. Will be anxiously waiting to see what you get.
So glad that you made it home safely and didn’t get stranded! Hope you are able to find something quickly and back out on the road again soon! In the meantime, enjoy time with your families. It will be a nice change of pace.
You two are lucky to have two “homes” of parents to go to when equipment problems occur. So many full time RV traveling people have to just make do paying for a hotel while the truck is in the shop for repairs.
So sorry to see the Hummer go especially since you just had all that work done to it, she's hung in there for a while! Excited to see the next step along the way! Edit... glad y'all are keeping her! More sentimental than anything! Also glad you made it home safe. 💜💜
We'd gotten an F350 with an eye on getting a truck camper without a slide, and still the weight was a lot and storage seemed limiting. We ended up getting a 25 ft trailer -- 4-season, high clearance, fairly good solar set up.. Have driven it on all kinds of roads all over the desert SW the past year and a half. We are living in it half-time. Still have responsibilities at home, but it would be easy to live in it full time. We love having a base camp and traveling around. You can make them very hard to steal -- hitch locks, wheel locks, run locks through the tires, and remove the hitch chains.
My wife and I absolutely love the Channel and campers and foodies alike. I'll be ordering your cook book in the near future. Thanks for great ideas and motivation for our future endeavors.
F250 truck owner here. Crew cab (so short bed), diesel. Great truck, and the whole family loves it, BUT, you will realistically be limited on campers you can carry. Pop-ups are a safe option, but they offer less than hard sided TCs (Truck Campers). Do yourselves a favor and give long bed F350s a serious look. Dual or single rear tires (single is simpler, duals carry more weight). 4WD if possible. In the long run you’ll be far happier with the one ton when you are carrying TCs.
You guys have such a wide range of activities that you guys enjoy so make sure you get the riggin' to keep you doing what you love to do and what we love watching you do!!!
You’ve been able to stretch the usefulness of the Hummer a good while. But practicality finally gets the best of us. Have you considered a hard shell roof top tent over a truck bed with storage below? We enjoy videos with other campers using this. But it HAS to fit in to your lifestyle of where you’re heading. Best of luck. Looking forward to where ever the journey takes you.
Oh my gosh! We were shocked to see where you were. We camp at Fish Creek all the time and it sure can get cold quickly here in the mountains. We only live 15 minutes away. I was equally surprised when you were eating at Well Dressed Foods. This is in my hometown. I literally work across the street. If you're ever in this area again my husband and I would love to show you around and where the locals like to go. We'll treat you to a good dinner. The hiking is amazing also. I'm sure you'll find the perfect set up for you.
I know you're getting all kinds of thoughts and ideas from everyone...might consider a toy hauler. Lots of storage in the back. And add a truck topper with a roof racks also for more storage. My two cents. Best to y'all. Glad you're home. I know everyone there is too.
Love you guys a bunch! Very excited about y’all upgrading to new camper. You may not know this but we don’t follow you because of the tent! Y’all have the best camping videos on You Tube and your like family to me! With love, David
If you are considering a f250, re-consider for a f350 single rear wheel with camper certification. Payload is higher, slide in truck camper will carry better. It will also tow a bumper pull better. Do go with 4wd. Just my opinion from a 69yo. You will not notice any ride difference. Ask Dad, i’m sure he has some practical insights. And go with 8 foot long bed. Crew cab long box is best. If really going with truck camper, go with dual rear wheels, too.
So happy to hear y'all came up to my area. I live in Tupper Lake. Work in Lake Placid. Hope y'all had a great time. Ever think about coming back up. There's lots of beautiful kayaking and hiking.
I am surprised it took you so long to decide camping is a true chore. I went camping a few times and setting up and breaking down is a tough job. Good luck on your future endeavors.
We camped 11 times this summer. We personally love every single minute of it. We have gotten to where we actually enjoy the packing up and unpacking. It's part of the ritual. But I certainly recognize it's not for everyone. 🏕
Me and the misses loves your show. Been tent camping for a few months and now we’re looking for a truck and travel trailer which I may have found us a no-Bo 19.5 fingers crossed. I think the only thing that bothers us with tent camping is the takedown after just a short weekend and if it’s raining having to takedown isn’t fun bc then you have to set back up at home so it can all dry. Keep the awesome videos coming Cody and Kelly. Cody your fixing to be uptown high rent with a 250 and a truck camper
Sorry to hear about the Bear Jew! It was a tough beast and a beauty. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end but it's not over for you two. Have a safe trip back home and if you get a new vehicle can't wait to see either way love you guys, be safe and blessed. 😀
We love our truck camper. It has ample space including two hanging closets. We have a S and S which is no longer manufactured. Don’t be deceived you have lots of storage in a tc if you buy one with storage. Best to you shop then decide.
Hello guys! We bought an f250 last December to pull our 30 ft travel trailer. Plenty of power to pull that camper. Lots of room. We own a newish Toyota Tundra but it was all it could do to pull the camper through the hills of Arkansas. Very satisfied with the f250 purchase. The problem is they are hard to find and very pricey. We considered the diesel but backed out. After talking to our diesel mechanic friend, we made the right choice. The f250 with gas godzilla motor 7.3 you can’t go wrong. Good luck in your search
One thing to consider when you go with a heavy slide in camper, you won't be randomly going for exploring drives with the camper on the truck. You can do it, but it gets tricky going down tight roads with low hanging branches or weird off camper roads. With your nomad lifestyle and need to pack a lot of odd shaped things, I would suggest looking at the Four Wheel Campers Grandby "Shell" model. This is the least outfitted allowing you to do what you want for the interior. You could keep the interior build simple and continue to live outside in your tent where you want to, yet be able to sleep in the camper where you need to (Walmart, Cracker Barrel, etc). The bikes could go on the back vertically on a swing out rack, or on a wheels down rack in front of the truck. Kayaks could go on the roof of the camper (I think).
Glad you made it home safely. If you’re ever in that situation again, a bottle of ring seal can help save the wear and tear (and oil use) on the way home. Hope you find something suitable soon. ❤
So sorry it is wore out but time for a new one. We own a 2017 Ford F250 diesel. It tows everything great no downshifting and gets 21mpg. Love it.. Dark gray. it's a beauty. We keep it immaculate. Good luck shopping hope you find something good.
Hey you two. Can’t believe you were just in my neck of the woods. I’m camping at Rough River this week. Hope y’all will come back this way again. You would love Mammoth Cave area. Safe travels!
So happy for you … you will be living our dream!! We would love the Northern Lite Truck Camper which is fibreglass… it is an awesome camper .. not sure if you have seen one but they very well made.. Cannot wait to see ur new set up!! And now that you will be moving into a truck camper I love ur channel even more!! Kelly congrats on the cook book .. I will be ordering one .. Funny cuz I think I was one of ur viewers that asked u early on when u decided to go full time in a tent how can u do that?As tent campers ourselves I know It’s alot of work! It’s so great that u will now have more of the comforts of home and feel a better sense of security Congratulations and I’m extremely happy for you!!
Just a little FYI.. when we use our pickup camper we tote our 4x4 Ranger behind it. We have a huge storage container in the bed of the ranger to put more of our equipment. Use your imagination for storage. which means you can hitch NoBo to your bumper and we use the inside of truck camper as storage to put all our extras in and we use the back seat of our truck for lots and lots of storage also our back seat flips up.
For later in life: Place ole BJ as a prop for a DOME LIFE restaurant in your future. I would love to see you two have a family restaurant in your home town with Kelly’s recipes. We would stop by it when we get to traveling from Texas.
So glad to see you in my neck of the woods!!! Rollins Pond which is right there in Fish Creek is even nicer. Sorry you couldn't stay longer. Safe travels home!!!
Sorry for the Bearju, but how exciting. Now I'm real invested in ya'll 's journey. I'm taking notes. We just bought a new truck to pull a trailer for our own weekend travels. Prayers for just the right fit.
There y’all are! I was getting worried for a few minutes lol. I’m so excited to see the new rig ! Sounds like you did your homework and know what you want. I can hardly wait for the next vlog 😆
Hey Cody - put 20W50 in it and I bet the oil pressure light goes off. I have a Toyota with 230k miles on it and the light came on a couple of years ago and I put 20W50 in it and its still goin!
OMG. FISH CREEK. I'm so glad you guys came out this far to where I Camp all the time. Maybe future check Moose River plains, 7th & 8th Lake. Many places to see. Maybe in future get together and I can show you great spots and Hiking mountains to hike too. 😍
There are so many options out there to consider for your next vehicle combination. Personally, I suggest either the Ford F250 or the Chevy 2500HD pulling a moderate sized toy hauler travel trailer. This combination allows for carrying everything you need and having access to it without much effort using the truck bed, truck rear seat area, toy hauler garage space and the trailer's normal storage bays. We have a toy hauler and depending on our destinations or planned activities, we can easily carry our mountain bikes, kayaks, motorcycle, Blackstone griddle or any combination of the list. We have seen some converted to office space for remote work situations.
Hey Ya'll,....Cody & Kelly.........praying for safety as you drive to Arkansas and praying for favor in finding a new vehicle......Looking forward to seeing your new vehicle and new videos!!!
Hi Cody & Kelly, love your channel as well as your journey! I’m a truck camper guy, if you need any help figuring out how to maximize storage, pick a quality brand, or the pros & cons of gas versus diesel in the truck camper world, I’m happy to help…take care.
I'm so on the same page with tiny space living! I don't want to ever live in anything bigger than what we have now and smaller would be even better because bigger spaces are more time consuming to clean AND a magnet for more junk!
I'm sure you're aware if you get a truck camper you'll have to break camp every time you want to do any activities. Unless you drop the camper from the truck. You should seriously consider an 8 ft. bed to maximize your camper size. Have you considered buying a cargo trailer and turn it into a camper? Good luck with whatever you decide to purchase you'll be starting a whole new adventure!
I’m 56 wife 53 daughter 27 granddaughter 4 we camp in two Kodiak tents. 4Runner pulling off road trailer for supplies lol .In Colorado now nights getting down to low 40’s and windy. A lot of work tent camping! We could have easily purchased a camper!
We have a Chevy Tahoe and love traveling in it for the big backseat area which we can flip down and pack to the brim. Granted you can’t put in a truck camper, but it’s a luxury ride and we never dreamt we would own one and travel in such style. Solid engine and we pull a large boat to northern MN couple times in summer and to AZ in the winter. Best of luck, though, finding the right truck and slide in camper. Even if you aren’t Dome Life anymore, I’ll follow your adventures to see Kelly cook some great food and all the beautiful places you go and enjoy! Have fun 🤩 living your dreams!
Different options to look at, The TH-camrs We're the Russos had a pop up truck camper they lived in for like 2 years but are back to a Van part time and Mortons on the Move renovated an older truck camper a little while back.
There's 2 gas engines available in 20+. The 6.2 and the new 7.3 "godzilla"... neither of these will match the 6.7 diesel in mpg either loaded or unloaded. Also a F350 single rear wheel will have about 1,500 lbs more payload capacity than a similar equipped F250.
HOME!!! I know it feels great for y'all! So, welcome home! The Bear Juice did remarkable getting u back! I would keep her, too! My '99 Chev S10 has been so good to me! Never leaving me stranded on the road! It has always gotten me from here to there! The closer u got to Arkansas, u could see the excitement in your eyes and smiles! Gosh, I hope u take more than a day to unwind and rest up. That drive was long and stressfully exhausting! Thanks so much for the tag-alongs thus far! It has been wondermous! Good luck with vehicle purchase! C u on the next one🌞 ✌and❤!
We are gonna upgrade from a Pop-up to a Single axle Toy Hauler next year... No more roof topping the kayaks we will slide em in the Toy Hauler and still be light enuf for good gas mileage on a 1/2 ton truck.
If you go with F250 diesel, go 2006 model year, it doesn't need DEF. We love ours for towing our camper. We got it (relatively) cheap with just over 100000 miles on it.
Good and some not so good news but I’m EXCITED for y’all! Can’t wait to see what you get…Praying for some goods deals on vehicle and camper! Hoping Ford and camper Co will become future sponsors!
How about a flatbed truck with side boxes for storage. Then put camper in between the side boxes. More storage! Good luck. We were concerned about you guys not posting on Sunday. Glad you made it home. Or go for the gusto and get an Overlander!
payload is the weight that you can add to, on top of, in the bed of a pick up truck. Including the weight of yourself and passengers. So if you take out the backseats, and you know the weight of the backseats, then you can add that to your payload. Now the tow capacity is higher on a truck and that’s what you can drag or pull Behind the pick up. And the proper way to find that out is taking The trailer to a truck scale Looking forward for your next adventure. Thanks.
Ohhhh anddd... I have a half ton truck and it's still pulls all the stuff (which is immense lol) inside the truck camper. The camper is our attic/trunk/equipment carrier
I was going thru some of your older vlogs and was watching the one of you on lake Ouachita which reminded me of the fish creek ponds are area when I used to go island camping on Follensby clear pond just above where you were staying at the campground. Enjoying your adventures. You should get up to Canada sometime. Ontario has lots of beautiful lakes.
Im sure you know that you can pull your utility trailer with the truck camper! its too bad you couldnt go to lake placid, the 1976 olympics was there. We took the ski lift to the top and was that beautiful. AND you will definetly have to get back to Mammoth Caves, very interesting!
Sounds like the gasket between the intake manifold and engine block is sucking in oil and burning it the pistons. Check to see if a spark plug is coated in oil, Best of luck in your travels.
I am excited to see what y’all pick . I’m don’t know what a slide in truck camper is . I will have to google it . I got excited when u hit Pennsylvania, I thought maybe you would stop here . Next time for sure xo
I never want your videos to end. Can’t wait for the next one
A slide in camper may require a 350 and dually

You really need to consider a dual rear wheel truck. It will open up your options for a truck camper and give you much more stability.
Good advice!
Hey, we are SO HAPPY you made it home. Consider a front receiver hitch feature on your new truck. A couple of TH-camrs we watch have them installed to get more "space" while camping/traveling. My husband and I have an F250 and put a slide in cabover camper on it. It was heavy by the time we loaded truck. We wished we had an F350.
For the backseat of a truck, check out Weather Tech’s under seat storage tray. We put one in our truck and love it. If your backseat flips up as ours does, you’ll have access to the entire tray from either side because it runs from side to side.

Consider a dually f350. Those slide in campers are heavy and you will want the torque and exhaust brake of a diesel if you get into steep grades.
I love how you talk to us like we are along with you. And believe me, we feel like we are. I feel the Concern for your travels and ups and downs like a family member. Yes we are very lucky. Not to say nothing would ever happen when we’re far away from our home state.
So sorry to see the Hummer go especially since you just had all that work done to it, she's hung in there for a while! Excited to see the next step along the way!
Edit... glad y'all are keeping her! More sentimental than anything! Also glad you made it home safe. 💜💜
Hey wanted to let you guys know, I ordered the Cookbook today. I'm excited. I'm almost 69 in 2weeks. It was a present for me 🎉🎉. Love you 2💞
Take your time, don’t assume anything, ask lots of questions. Any thing someone promises get it in writing!

There’s a ton of storage inside the camper for all of your kitchen supplies, clothes etc. I vote bumper pull camper!

Oh my gosh I was just in that area a couple days ago I love that place up there cannot get enough of it
O boy your going home🎉 can’t wait to see your fall foliage it is so beautiful
We can all see Jonathan
There y’all are! I was getting worried for a few minutes lol. I’m so excited to see the new rig ! Sounds like you did your homework and know what you want. I can hardly wait for the next vlog 😆
Hey Cody - put 20W50 in it and I bet the oil pressure light goes off. I have a Toyota with 230k miles on it and the light came on a couple of years ago and I put 20W50 in it and its still goin!
We are so glad you made it home thank you Jesus get some rest and good luck on the new camping setup sounds exciting
Wow, fast turn around on seeing a trailer and now looking like you are getting one.
Let the rebrand begin.
Have you thought about a truck topper. Storage in the truck bed. Then a pop up topper on top of the truck bed. The truck toppers fold flat.
Was so wanting to see New England. Come back soon! Autumn is best time
OMG.
Check out Morton's on the move. They did a flat bed truck and camper, lots of storage you need.
Glad you made it home safely. Really looking forward to your new rig and the adventures you go on!
Really cool to see you guys drive through Erie!
Kelly, Yes !, you need your lounger!! Hang in there both of you ! Blessings
I'm so on the same page with tiny space living! I don't want to ever live in anything bigger than what we have now and smaller would be even better because bigger spaces are more time consuming to clean AND a magnet for more junk!
I’m so sorry about your truck. I wish you could have made it to Vermont! Safe travels. ❤
I’m so glad you made it home safely! Much love 💕
Wow, you have a lot going on. Watching with such interest to see what you decide. Best of luck as always
Glad you made it home safely. Hope you've either found or will find the perfect solution. Take care and God bless.
We are gonna upgrade from a Pop-up to a Single axle Toy Hauler next year...
No more roof topping the kayaks we will slide em in the Toy Hauler and still be light enuf for good gas mileage on a 1/2 ton truck.
Woohoo!!! Excited to catch y'all on the other...vehicle! :D tehe Tell Texas I said hey!
If you go with F250 diesel, go 2006 model year, it doesn't need DEF. We love ours for towing our camper. We got it (relatively) cheap with just over 100000 miles on it.
You will figure vehicle out... glad you made it home.
Good and some not so good news but I’m EXCITED for y’all! Can’t wait to see what you get…Praying for some goods deals on vehicle and camper! Hoping Ford and camper Co will become future sponsors!
Thank you for taking us on your trip back home!
How about a flatbed truck with side boxes for storage. Then put camper in between the side boxes.
More storage! Good luck. We were concerned about you guys not posting on Sunday. Glad you made it home. Or go for the gusto and get an Overlander!
Bowen makes a nice flatbed for a truck camp. If we were going that route I would want one of those
So glad u made it home safely!!
payload is the weight that you can add to, on top of, in the bed of a pick up truck.
I am excited for this next chapter in y'alls journey!
If you haven't already bought a vehicle, the guy on the you tube StonyBoot channel is a wealth of knowledge.
Glad y'all made it home safe 🙂
Definitely get back to Mammoth caves - you will love it!
This is fun to watch. Thanks
I just bought your lounger, knew if you liked it it must be good. I love it. Best wishes to you both
Sounds like the gasket between the intake manifold and engine block is sucking in oil and burning it the pistons. Check to see if a spark plug is coated in oil, Best of luck in your travels.
Camped there myself used to own a camp there. Lake placid is awesome
I am excited to see what y’all pick . I’m don’t know what a slide in truck camper is . I will have to google it .
I got excited when u hit Pennsylvania, I thought maybe you would stop here .
Next time for sure xo
I’m glad I packed warm clothes for my trip to Acadia NP in Maine. 30’s in the Adirondacks woah. I’m leaving Thursday from Tallahassee Fl area.
I grew up every summer at fish creek, rollers ponds is even nicer, but really nice place
Nice! Remember if u did get a trailer or even with tte truck u can get wheel lock boots. Lots of people use them. Exciting buena suerte!
Looking forward to your next video.
Good luck !
