@@RufusWainwrightspot Des Moines, Iowa. I saw you here a few years ago and wish I could have afforded the meet and greet but managed to be near the front and loved every second.
Not going to lie, I first heard this as a tiny girl, sang by Holly Hunter in Raising Arizona. Next by Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones. THEN I learned the origins of the song before two of my VERY FAVORITE vocalists covered it ❤

I have been a fan since " Want one", and absolutely love San Souci ! In fact , love the whole family. Love your story about growing up wearing ac2-2, and your father's reaction. Your Judy at Carnegie performance is my all time favorite.
Joni's kids sounding glorious together ;-) If you like the song you should check out Jim Moray, a young British folk artist who records these old Trad ballads beautifully.
Great song…..interesting how words and phrases shift over the decades. Originally the line was “burglars wine” which was a drugged or poisoned wine Highway men used to incapacitate their victims to “burgundy wine” as no one knows what burglars wine is anymore.

It was forgivable when the Everlys covered it. But, whether for irony or the need to be defiant, a confessional song from a man who murders his lover……?
Nothing like new Rufus to make you forget whatever is going wrong for you in the world and remember what is right.
I love the way their voices harmonize so well. But I actually also love anything Rufus does. ❤

First I heard of Brandi. What a beautiful voice.
Whitney - in awe of your talent....... this was ace...again.
It does not get more profound and beautiful than this. Legends, both. Thank you!
I can listen to it over and over. love it!
This is an amazing collab! 💕💕 You both are amazing artists and sound so great together. I can’t wait for Folkocracy to come out!
Got to say, I love the voice of the man, as with Brandi, just magic ...
Absolutely beautiful song. They're voices are gorgeous together! Rufus is the man!! ✌🏻❤
One of my favorite songs. 💙 This may now be my favorite version. Holly Hunter a close second.

Loved your voice ever since I heard you in moulin rouge!! Enchanting voice 😍 and I love brandi too, great duo 😁
Sumptuous. ❤️
Fab, love the vid. Song is an old Everlys fave of mine. Great job, Rufus and Brandi.
Yes, as soon as I heard the first note I was like Everly Brothers!
I so want to hear you sing The Art Teacher again❤ it’s a song which truly broke and healed me.
Great duo! 🥰

Upstate NY. I have seen you perform at the Egg in Albany.

“Joni’s kids”?!
@@cacampbell3654 Both Rufus and Brandi are very close to Joni Mitchell so I refer to them as her kids.
no wonder Sigfried is shocked 'daddy what the hell are you singing?' though lovely harmonising she really suits your voice.
This sounds like a beautiful melange of vintage Emmy Lou Harris and silk
Love this song! Great rendition. I remember hearing the Everly Bros. version for the first time and learning the term "murder ballad" haha.
I've never heard of a murder ballad but I can imagine why 😆
Beautiful
RAISING ARIZONA
Magnifique chanson, je l'écoute en boucle! Les voix, la mélodie, tout est parfait. Je suis une fan finie de Rufus 😂
Just gorgeous stuff, Rufus. Two wonderful souls.
My favorite old traditional.
It’s just so perfect! 💕✨
Magnifique!
Nice singers
Only the 5th comment. Bramily, where are you? Both voices like butter.
Lovely cover ❤
For folks hung upon "content," eh this is art, exercise your freedom & don't listen, eh?
Nice
The masks look really cool and appropriate.

✨✨✨✨✨
Voices are great. Did anyone noticed this is SK's tune? Sounds like J.Dahmer wrote a lovesong.
If you like this try the legendary everly brothers
Gorgeous blend of the voices. Song is wonderful, could have been "traditional".
It is "traditional", with 18th century origins, likely in Ireland according to Wikipedia.
I love The Everly Bros version .
also bon iver did it very well
Did I spell pretentious correctly?
🤍
Poisoned, run through witha sabre and thrown in the river. Was he dating Rasputin 🤔😆
Nothing quite like a good ol’ song about male violence against women, told from the perspective of the poor perp! So much has changed! NOT. 😠
It was forgivable when the Everlys covered it. But, whether for irony or the need to be defiant, a confessional song from a man who murders his lover……?
