Love seeing these bikes from my childhood being restored! I did the same thing on my childhood 1985 XR250R. A lot of work/money goes into a frame up restoration. The guy I used to powder/ceramic coat my engine got little granular of sand in some of the threaded holes…. What a nightmare
Yeah I feel you, I had to clean the engine cases after the hydro blasting because the little glasss beads were like static charged to the cases and in all the threaded holes. Worth it for the result though
@@northerntoyota7584 almost thought they dropped out completely til I searched suzuki and see they've only kept a few models, Yamaha really the only one going hard as they got dirthbike, Quads, and now SXS with Honda and Kawasaki behind with dirtbikes and SXS
It is but they still have a few good bikes at least and it’s really the changed off-road market in AMerica. Dirt biking isn’t easy and seems like the high achievers are buying the Ktm 10 grand models and the lazies that used to buy quads are buying side by sides.
Great machines RM and RMXs. 🤘 I worked at a Suzuki dealership for 18 years these bike are hard to get new parts for . Many parts discontinued new . Great looking build 👍
Wow! Beautiful bike. I was racing enduros when the first RMX came out and I would have raced it but Kawasaki was helping me but if it would have been up to me i would have been on one. You ended up with a new bike as far as I concerned. Very good job man. Thanks for sharing it brings back memories from my past that I love so much. Wish I was still able to race. Thanks again.
Nice job Jack, it would be nice to hear you talk about any mods, upgrades or changes you made, I love building dirt bikes myself and I respect and appreciate the fact that you, like myself, do all the work yourself, too many people on TH-cam who call themselves bike builders have someone else build the engine, the wheels and so on which makes them nothing more than parts changers, your the real deal, I recently did a 99 300EXC and a friend's 99 ATK 260LQ and parts are getting hard to come for bikes that old, always loved the RMX's that one is beautiful.
Yeah I hear a lot of good things about the stock front end for enduro. But I love the look of the upside down fork too much haha thanks for the comment!
Great work. I have the same bike here from a friend, but there are missing parts. Hard to find parts in the Philippines especially on this particular model. But im just truly grateful that i have one inside my house, i dont mind if it is not running. Her presence gives me joy. 😊
That was a great work, awesome for hare scrambles and ok for big open moto x tracks. 1 problem was the with the jetting, I found out through a Suzuki mechanic that the RM125 3 or 4 needle helped heaps as It flooded a bit when you gave it some stick. The black look sweet, good as always video.
I had this same year RM 250 never raced it just woods and trail riding thought it was a great bike ended up trading it in for a new GSX-R 750 wish I would have held on to it!
I have a doubt! The original RM and RMX cylinders are coated with Hard Chrome or Nikasil (coating has a nickel matrix with SiC - silicon carbide particles)?
@@jackkellybuilds Thank you for the explanation. I'm from Brazil, I bought a 1998 Rm 250. Everyone here says that these imported bikes have hard chrome cylinders.
First of all, I would like to thank you for this art and your beautiful effort It was really enjoyable I would like to know in which country you are because if you have such bikes I am willing to buy them I hope you will answer my comment
OEM parts must be getting slim, why I sold mine. Looks like a 1 piece PV? Some had 3 pieces! Those flywheels like to spew their magnets, good luck finding a replacement. Old stiff airboots can become supple again with a heat gun. Ive got a TS200R on the go, some interesting tech on those.
You might be surprised, I didn’t have much trouble finding oem parts. But mine wasn’t a restoration. You’re right about the flywheels, but most people like myself just JB weld the magnets back in if they didn’t get chewed up by the stator. Thanks for watching
Is that a 98? Looks like an RM but I know they did up the a98 or '97 but it wasn't in the United States I had a 94 RMX 250 one owner basically brand new and it looks very different but I know that's the next generation so maybe I just don't know everything about my 94. Had FMF exhaust and the RM head on it and it was a f****** beast and it did easily 90. Maybe even 100 cuz of the gearing and it was a monster in the woods. You could lug it around or you could romp power band... great bike man i paide 2200 for mine but it like new had a new top end.. i only had to get tires and rebuild the suspension
Yeah the US never got this model, sad I didn’t keep it for long after I finished the project so I didn’t get to ride it in the woods, but the new owner seems to be enjoying it! Thanks for the comment
The front fender is off of a late model rm250, rear fender and side panels are from a rm250 96-00 and are all from UFO plastics. unfortunately the radiator shrouds are discontinued and can't be purchased brand new anywhere
Truly, one of the best looking RMX's I've ever seen!!!
thank you so much!

it’s a shame Suzuki could not keep up they had some a great lineup of bikes and 4 wheelers
they still have rmz
@@goller.9797 yes, but to say they’ve fallen behind the other motto x bikes is an understatement.

Hey mate, I have a detailed build series about this exact bike on my channel, it sounds like exactly what you’re after. Cheers!
New graphics looks sick!!

Beautiful build I would have rebuilt the Showa conventional forks I’m a huge fan of them. Definitely the cleanest RMX build I’ve seen to date 🏆

Nice to see someone using copper washers under the head nuts

The original RM and RMX cylinders are coated with Hard Chrome or Nikasil (coating has a nickel matrix with SiC - silicon carbide particles)?
Its a Nikasil coated cylinder, I had it re-coated during the rebuild process

This has been a great series Jack. Do you have a tab of the complete cost?
thanks mate, glad you liked it. I do have a tab but am going to save that for another video, or for someone to guess correctly in the comments

Hey bro, where did u get the tail tidy, and how did you go installing it
eBay mate, its just a universal tail tidy then I drilled holes in the fender and used bolts to mount it
I like restorasion this .good jobs.

Did you powder coat the hoops? Looks like a fun bike!
Yeah rims & hubs were powder coated satin black! Thanks for watching!
Mate love the bike what did you coat the expansion chamber two stop it rusting would for mine two look like that
Thanks mate, coated it with ATF
Thanks champ
Oy damn! Real cool work! Hot shit!
Thank you 🍻
Where did you get the rear fender and number plates?
Rear fender and side panels are 96-00 rm250 plastics from UFO plastics
Good day! Where can I buy such a mount for the number and turn signals?
an impeccable job a motorcycle beauty

Thanks for watching!
Very nice bike! I'd like to have one like it.
thank you very much mate!
How much did it end up costing in total to put in that excellent condition?
$8500 AUD including buying the bike
Perfection
thank you!
what kind of material did you apply to the gasket, a different method I am interested because ı don't like liquid gasket
just regular grease, its to stop the gasket from sticking to the surfaces if I ever need to pull it apart
Que buen trabajo! Porque puso los carters al horno? Es para sacar los rodajes facilmente o cual es la razon?
Puse las tapas en el horno porque el metal se expande cuando está caliente, lo que hace que los rodamientos sean más fáciles de quitar.

All good job, but why you broke the looking good chain that way?😳
Why don't many people just clean up the set included pu pad and repaint ?🤔
Where did you find it for 850 bucks, bikes sell for crazy priced these days.
