I have been at the actual fort (kondhana later renamed as Sinhagad (literal translation Lion fort in honour of Tanaji who layed his life) in Jan 2020. And even now climbing the fort with road made near it and proper climbing area it's not easy..let alone in 1600's when forests surrounded it and no paved roads.
This is real story of Tanaji who took over the fort with his brother Sayaji and others in early morning via a route even the Mughals couldn't imagine (as it was very steep and only a crazy person would climb it that too at night (I have seen that side .it's so steep even today's time I wouldn't do it during day let alone night with modern technology) they used monitor lizards to climb.. Tanhaji fell fighting but his brother continued and took over the fort..
